I think Frank and Mark are bringing Tom along just nicely! I've heard that there are a few little testers around the corner in the likes of former EBU (external European champions) Maxim Maslov and Artur Maryban and former Olympic bronze medalist Vladamir Chanturia 12(0) 0(0).
If and when Tom gets past any of these people I think he will deserve a lot more credit than he currently gets from his critics.Tom has a lot of potential in my opinion. He is young, fast and athletic and throws effective combinations delivering hard head and body shots that often have opponents wincing. He needs to develop a much more tighter defence though and learn to refrain from being 'over eager' in his enthusiasm to 'take people out' as he has a tendecy to walk onto punches in his over enthusiasm, luckily so far not from anybody too
dangerous or who can really punch!
I think his team are bringing him along nicely and envisage a little step up in the not too distant future but Tom's team shouldn't feel rushed into anything foolish, not least with regards to domestic opponents just to please the critics, but continue along steadily as they are doing
Tom will step up in the not too distant future but stealth is the more prudent path to pursue as opposed to a blind headlong rush over the cliff just to satisfy his critics.
So do you really think a guy who has boxed 20 rounds in 14 fights is being brought on nicely? Really! My point about opponents not being fit enough to spar with them referred to Price as well. If Price did so well against Solis, why doesn't his promoter put him in with someone who is a bit of a test for him instead of fat people who are by and large frightened to death.
I rate Dallas actually in just think Frank needs to have a bit more faith in him
The number of rounds Tom has boxed compared to the number of wins and losses of his opponents to date is not so important as determining 'who those opponents have won and lost against' and with regards to the number of rounds boxed who have they been against?
Take Gabor Farkas Tom's last opponent for example. Now he may have only gone 3 rounds with him before stopping him,but considering Farkas went the distance with Claus Bertino ranked 120 in the world and above Tom in the rankings how can you criticise his performance? Since he has gone one step better than Bertino by stopping this guy.
Ok,Tom hasn't won any titles yet but little indications like this surely show he is moving slowly in the right direction.A tougher test is only around the corner and I think Tom will rise to it and prevail.
I was at the show and would like to add that Gabor Farkas was a big guy and in decent shape. its going to be difficult to get top opponants for a hall show like this one but as Frank Maloney said these shows are the life blood of the sport. it was good to see so many turn out and id like to see another one in Gillingham soon, Lets see Toms next opponant on a televised show be a good step up as i think he would have learned a bit from this last one,
