They could do with some new blood, some fighters who are recently retired. Jamie Moore for example, or Jon Thaxton maybe?
Not guys who fought 20 years ago and are out of touch with the game.
Not Thaxton PLEEEEEEAAASE!!! If Thaxton got involved then I'd stop watching.
I know he's a nice guy, and he had a good career so he'd have an insight, but I've never heard anyone so annoying when interviewed.
I used to like Buncey's Setanta show, I'd like to see him on Sky. Plus he's as enthusiastic as anyone else!
What and buncey isnt annoying?!

Ha! I know what you mean, but at least you get the feeling that Buncey's aware that he's like a cartoon. Thaxton gives me impression that he is to be taken very, very, very seriously! AT ALL TIMES!!!!!!! " I will take his belt! And I will be the champion!" ( Cue the WWF style music and montage).

Still active obviously, but Macklin showed a good understanding of the game yesterday, and I don't always get that from boxers. I think he would possibly be good somewhere in the mix after his career is over (not writing him off just yet!).

They only started Nelson on commentating recently, I think that's why people are saying give him time.
Does anyone remember how terrible Linaker was on MOTD when he first started? Terrible..wooden, flat...no excitement in his voice and then he got some lessons and he morphed into a walking BBC cliche, putting emphasis on ALL the RIGHT words at the RIGHT time and sorted his intonation out.
They do the same for all the BBC newsreaders, if you ever watch the less casual Saturday am shows where they have "experts" in, they go off piste and it's not scripted but they still use the same STYLE of putting EMPHASIS on certain WORDS to stop you falling ASLEEP.

Plenty of good points on here, but my original point wasn't about Nelson's knowledge of the sport or his presenting style, it's the kissing peoples arse that gets to me (RE: the De Gale and Haye interviews).
I'll assume I'm the only one that this bothers.

I think that's just how he is, overly enthusiastic.
All the SKY guys blow smoke up anything SKY puts out. It's like they've all been programmed to do it on autopilot. I've lost count of the amount of times they talk about a match being "explosive" or whatever, when it's clearly not.

They are clearly trained how to behave, be it in their emphasis/speaking style, certain phrases or how in fights miles from 50/50 they talk up the chances of different boxers.

I remember Nicky Piper being interviewed years ago about how on his first broadcasting assignment (thihnk it was eurosport) how his producer went mental into his earpiece as he used the phrase "he's moving in for the kill now".

As for Jim Watt, there's some names that certain sports wouldn't sound the same without, even if they're crap. Just like Brian Moore in rugby and John Parrot in snooker.
Mate, you must be just a wee nipper? The voice of snooker will always be "Whispering" Ted Lowe, Harry carpenter for boxing and Bill McLaren for Rugby.
Shocking how old your post made me feel

I never forget when Ted Lowe (91 this year!!!) said: "And for those of you who are watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green"

just on the ted lowe tip.....snooker has loads of ex pros who make great, thoughtful fascinating pundits always with something interesting to say (and i dont mean john parrot who is the exception and terrible).......than u look at cricket where people like david gower, mark nicholas, bob willis, nick knight, botham, hussein and another 20 i could name are terrific presenters, journalists and pundits who can talk for hours raising interesting points....of course most these cricketers are university educated, higher brow and more intelligent well travelled individuals than some in boxing....but still im shocked johhny nelson....a guy with an incredible story, at one time a brilliant young prospect who drew with a distinguished world cruiser champ in deleon yet became hated the country over for his supposedly fearful way of fighting....a man who was forced to travel the world for paydays at hw.....and came back to be an all conquering hero and world champ.....isnt more confident and doesnt relate more his own experiences....
Forget bunce he is an arrogant arsehole who can only talk all the time he cant be a co pundit

Ha! I am old enough to remember the late, great Bill Mclaren but we obviously don't get to hear him these days. " ......and tha'll be celebrrrrations in tha Hastings house tonight!"
I chose Brian Moore because I love the fact that he has all the opinions but knows none of the rules!
Apologies for none of this being boxing related.

Well, he obviously isn't from Wales because the BBC website doesn't have a main feature on him every other day!

I don't mind Nelson myself, can be a bit cliched but he's not the worst of the bunch.
McCrory is worse for me, he brings nothing to the table (except a fat head and NE accent)
Eye want a Coornish man on the panel
