Sorry, I think I could be misread in my previous post - what I meant when I said "I will disagree that Froch should be a household name" is that people seem to be thinking its a "given" that Froch would be a household name and I certaintly don't think Sky's hype would be the answer - he had terrestial TV coverage for years, headlining in British, Commonwealth, Eliminators and World title fights - live, prime time Saturday Night...... Mick did all he could really - and still no interest.

He's not the first and won't be the last. Infact, being a world champion doesn't necessarily mean your a household name even in days of old - but particularly now.... Woods, Witter etc.

You've got a point really, I guess he isn't overly flashy and doesn't exude loads of charisma, just a really good solid guy with a grounded personality. I still think with more exposure at the right time he'd be bigger than he is as he is an exciting fighter, but you're right he probably would never be a crossover star sadly but then only a chosen few ever are.

In boxing, these really are few and far between. Was Calzaghe ever really one of these, Khan isn't at the minute, you could make a case for Haye based on PPV figures but it's still debatable. DeGale could be but he has a long way to go. In the last 20 years you could probably say that the stars have been Bruno, Naz & Hatton. The rest haven't came close

Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank

I wouldn't really say they carried the same appeal as Bruno, Naz & Hatton. They generated some headlines but i can't imagine you would have seen them turning up on 'Good Morning With Richard & Judy'. I may be wrong though

My point was that he's had loads of exposure throughout his career. When is the right time? Now?... Only fight not shown on Sky BBC or ITV at somepoint was Kessler and Abraham. The Pascal, Taylor and Dirrell fights were shown on ITV 1. Plus had build up on ITV 4's review show.

Freddiedoesdallas - good point also, it seems some star power actually goes down as their career passes. Khan was a big celebrity on the back of the Olympics - unlike Audley - he kind of lost that ability to draw the crowds/interest.

Possibly but i don't think he'd have got near it if Hatton wasn't in the big fight against Mayweather the night before.

Calzaghe, Lewis, Eubank etc were all fantastic boxers and fairly popular but to be a cross-over kind of star you do need something else. The test for me has always been whether my Gran has heard of them, she knew about Bruno, the little lad from up north (Naz) and Hatton. She used to talk about the 'lad from Birmingham' (Khan) and still asks what he's up to but show her a picture of most others and she wouldn't have a clue

The problem seems to be that the S6 is so overwhelmingly controlled by Showtime that for Sky to pick it up they would be in the position of very junior partner (in that they have no say over the scheduling, the venue, timing etc) which won't sit well with them, particularly when the dates seem to so subject to last minute changes.

Froch would be a tremendous prize for Groves or Degale though, so lets hope something can be done

Froch responded on Twitter today that "Its looking good for the fight to be shown on Sky"
