To suggest that Haye has better finishing ability is absolutely laughable. You are comparing apples with oranges. There's a massive difference between swinging for the fences against a genuine ATG in Tyson, and throwing a million and one wild bombs against old ass Ruiz, old Valuev, journeyman Harrison.
It seems this is the David Haye fanclub, I think I'll get my coat
You are the most arrogant twat I've ever come across in any forum. Go and swim in acid you prick.

To be fair mate your argument for Bruno has been pretty woeful, are you sure you're not getting him mixed up with Muhammad Ali?!
You talked about his footwork, finishing, stamina etc etc? Bruno was good, but he was never an elite fighter. Best win is McCall, and he hung on for dear life against an unambitious loon having been destroyed by Tyson twice, and beaten by Lewis and Witherspoon and Smith.
David Haye is a top, top fighter.
The well is drier than it was in Bruno's day, but Haye would still have a bigger glass of water

Bruno would do well against this crop of HW's. As I have said before, its not that this crop of HW's are any good, theyre not.
He would KO the likes of Chambers, Arreola, Thompson, Snoworski, Rathman, Austin and whoever else the governing bodies have ranked in there top 10.
Vitali would be favourite to win, Haye would be a live underdog and possibly Wlad could have enough to beat him (unless Bruno can get past his jab and land, as Bruno lacked speed).
None of this meand Bruno is no suddenly some sort of 'Great', he isn't. Its more a case that the HW's, at the moment are a true sack of s#%t.
Understood - but did he beat anyone better than the above?
His reputation is based on who he lost to, not who he won.
Bruno had heart, could punch quite well, but was vulnerable, lacked stamina and technique.
Who did he beat even close to their prime and who was good?
Bruno is comparable to say Tommy Morrriosn (though in my opinion less so) IE an entertaining punhcer but vulnerable and cannot beat the best.
Well put..
To say Bruno's footwork is on a par with Haye's is laughable. And whoever said it would be a mismatch has never seen them both fight.

PS Where did Bruno showed brilliant finishing ability against a top 10 fighter?
Cracker of a punch v Coetzee had him on the deck and then he got up and took another one and was out like a light, but other than that?
I'm not being facetious, am intrigued by your defence of the guy. Good fighter but let's be Frank (sorry guys!), he was never taken seriously...
I'm no David Haye loverhe is a very very good fighter. Talking about who has the most desire, Haye took on big punching Enzo and flattened him, went to Mormeck to fight him and got off the deck to beat him and then beat 7ft+ Valuev on foreign soil as well.
When did Bruno do that? .trips to Vegas, got beaten and came back. Plucky old Frank etc.
with Haye you feel he can beat VK and WK, with Bruno he was the underdog and got smashed.
One great right hand against Tyson he's lived off it for decades. Snowelland co were so badly prepared for that fight. Tyson with Rooney would have done it in 2/3.
Great guy old Frank by all accounts, but let's not kid ourselves....he was never a great fighter.

The only one who would have a good chance of beating Frank nowadays is vitali.
Always wondered how good Frank would have been with a nasty side and a killer instinct

You honestly believe FRANK BRUNO would beat David Haye and Wlad Klitschko?
I can't believe I've bitten, back to work....

Bennie and Lenny have sowed this thread up.
Frank could be top 10 in almost any era but there would always be opponents he had no chance against. Frank had stamina issues and just unravelled when hurt. His survival instincts weren’t good. Even so he could bang and anyone who stood in front of him and didn’t have a good set of whiskers could be KO’d. An exciting fighter.
I’ll also praise Frank for his application when there were a lot of Heavies in the 1980s who needed to wear sports bras.
I’d give Frank no chance with Vitali. A puncher’s chance with Wlad and a little more than that against Haye.
Basically a guy with a sturdy chin who took his power late into a fight would always give Frank problems. I’d have bet the house on Ray Mercer.
But Frank never let himself down and was a genuine world class contender. Always regret he didn’t go for a Lonsdale belt.

Frank did let himself down against Tyson in 1996.
He was so scared that his underpants & shorts were sponsored by Andrex that night.
I got the feeling he was glad to be put out of his misery, which was so out of character for Frank, as opponents usually had to beat the fight out of him.

I think Bruno wasn't even the best heavyweight in his own stable. I believe Gary Mason would have beaten him.

This thread is very interesting.
I never thought I'd ever see the day that someone would claim that Frank Bruno had better footwork than anybody!
Unless there was once a brick wall that was a professional boxer, there's no way that Bruno's footwork should be ranked above anyone's because he was a statue.
David Haye might not be Muhammad Ali or Herbie Hide, but he's certainly better on his feet than Bruno ever was.

bruno moved around the ring like a big momma grandmother who was just coming off knee surgery....his footwork was slow ponderous and he didnt use it to create angles either....part of what i mentioned when i said bruno should have gone to america after the 1st tyson loss, was, he would have been made to stop the weights, loosen up, learn to move in and out on his feet better, perhaps get a little nastier......hell if an even slower, lumbering and less skilled guy like dennis andries managed it.....frank could......if frank had gone to a emmanuel steward in 89 like andries he would have had to fight wars in the gym to get respect.....imagine a tommy hearns helping frank improve his body punches....bruno sparring a young michael moorer in 90............

I agree (though it hurts so much)
![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)
; Frank hit the weights (and supplements

too much) he could have leaned down and been nearly as strong with far better variety and speed. It was like watching Jason and the Argonauts watching him swing. The big hitters at heavyweight weigh about 14 stone, sticking another 4 stone on top just messes things up.

Wlad is fragile when backed up and if Bruno could back up Lewis he could back up Wlad.
Haye - A total mismatch and Bruno flattens him early. Far too strong, tough and hard punching for Haye.
The only one I give a 50/50 chance to would be Vitali who might outlast Bruno in a war of attrition.
I agree 100% pal with you......only I feel we're in the minority
I'd possible say Vitali is 55-45 for Vitali, however, ask me next week I might say Frank, know what I mean........'Arry

not on the same night no. I think Ali, Foreman, Holmes (from what I've read) would have done Bruno. Jou Louis sounded more able but weight-wise not sure he was big enough.
But prime Frank Bruno would spank the living sh*t out of a prime David Haye all day long. There wouldn't be a single photo from during or post- fight that Haye could drool over himself in his "Bookazine".

I must say that this has really surprised me. Just what has Haye done? Beat Gurov (good win), Mormeck (aged, weight drained and totally unmotivated) Maccarinelli (glass jawed journeyman), Valuev (human wardrobe), Barett (aged journeyman), Ruiz (approaching 40 never fought since totally washed up) and Harrison (where do I start with him).
Haye has shown nothing to suggest he even belongs ion the same ring with Bruno, or Henry Cooper and Joe Bugner.
I would be interested to know how many of the posters were around when Bruno was coming up and in his priime.
