To me - it would be like Najib Daho vs Pat Cowdell. The first fight Breidis jumped on Khan and KO'd him - he wouldn't do that again if they fought a 100 times. In a rematch I would put my worldly savings on Khan outboxing and stopping Prescott in around 9 rounds - just like Cowdell did to Najib Daho (R.I.P champ)

Well said pal. Who really wants tae see a Khan-Prescott rematch apart fae the people who want tae see Amir get beat? Boxing is a business. If i(or anyone?)was Khan would i want to fight Prescott again when your on the verge of potential dare i say "Greatness". Eh naw.

Why not fight Prescott? Is it because there is a risk of a repeat showing?

Prescott does have something that Khan will struggle with and that's a jab. Even if Prescott didn't have the power in his right hand Khan was in for a long night against him last time out. The very first jab he landed jarred Khan's head back and put him right in his place.

Khan's chin is much better now, he has put weight on his lower body, developed himself physically and improved 100 fold with his defence. I dunno if Prescott would take him again but I sure wouldn't mind seeing a rematch after Khan fights Bradley.

Underdogs do beat favourites twice.

Jones-Barrera
Collins-Eubank
Holyfield-Tyson

To name just a few

What does Khan achieve by fighting Prescott? I'm not saying he would beat him but...onwards and upwards

David Haye and Manny Pacqauio are current champs (I'm sure there are more but those two spring to mind) who have proven that you don't need to go back and fight a rematch to move on in your career. Khan left a rematch with Prescott behind years ago, if Prescott wants to fight him again he should get his arse in gear and step up the competition and get up the rankings.
Just to clear this up. BREIDIS PRESCOTT is currently ranked 9th by the WBA at Light Welter. Add to that his latest win and he more than qualifies for his rematch.
Just to clear what up? He isn't a top ten ranked fighter at the weight, he might be by the WBA, but he was 11th as far as I was aware anyway, not saying your wrong, just where he was last time I saw them. Either way he needs to earn his shot, you are not explaining why Khan should gift it to him? Khan is about to go into a unification fight with Bradley, and you're worried about Briedis effing Prescott.
For a start I don't worry. I haveb't since a dictir told me I was using the use of my legs. In the March ratings issued by the WBA, Precott is rsnked 9oth, so he is a top ten fiighter, by the only organisation that matters to this conversation.

I want Khan to fight Bradley and I want him to beat him. I also want Khan to fight Prescott and I just happen to think Prescott beats him.

Well, that was his ranking before his most recent fight, so he may have gone up. He doesn't need to beat anyone else in the eyes of the WBA or me for that matter. Knocking out Amir Khan in 54 seconds means that he DESERVES a rematch.

No it doesn't. He offers nothing to Khan, why can't you see that he's moved on past Prescott? Like Haye and Manny did. He actually may well end up fighting him again in the future, I doubt it though seeing as when he has stepped up in class he's lost both times. Prescott would lose handily to Khan, and to a lot of fighters ranked above him.
He stepped up in class in another fight and won that one in a single round. If only I could remember the name of the guy he beat.... Amir something I think he was called.

Khan would wipe the floor with him. He is much stronger physically. Keeps his hands up.Has more power and patience.

Easy stoppage for Khan.

People who overrate Prescott forget a lot of things.

1) Prescott was only picked for Khan because his record looked good on paper and paper only. He was a plastic opponent drafted in to pad Khan's record. It backfired.
2) Prescott was a novice who hadn't beat anyone of note. Off the top of my head, nine of his opponents had never won a single fight.
3) He got lucky
4) Khan would beat him 99 times out of a 100 normally.
5) He still hasn't beat anyone of note and lost to Kevin Mitchell, who is not at world level like Khan.

Prescott has had some good paydays on the back of beating Khan, something he would never of got had he lost.

Khan giving him a rematch is utter madness, imagine if he did and got sparked again, it would set him back years on what the money men are ultimately trying to achieve. This is why it will never happen at present.

If Khan losses to Bradley then it might be made but if he beats him impressively I would say it will be a long time if ever before we see the pair in the ring together again.

This article also says he was ranked 11th going into this fight, and obviously the rankings you mentioned were from March by the WBA. I wonder why me and the writer were both under the impression he was ranked 11th? :witzend:
Well, I deal in facts. Check the WBA Website and it will tell you he is ranked 9th.

Yep, so he better wait in line for his shot, as he is ranked behind the likes of the mighty Volodymyr Kravets, Alberto Mosquera, and Brunet Zamora (the third best 140 pounder in the world according to the WBA).

Until Prescott works his way into the mandatory position or becomes a consensus top 10 fighter in independent rankings, there should be no pressure on Khan to give him a rematch.

There was no pressure on Khan to fight McCloskey or Malignaggi or Salita. I was mearly stating that Prescott is in the WBA top ten. Obviously it's up to Khan who he wants to fight outside of his mandatory.

I think what I'm trying to say is this. If I was a world champion and my only defeat was a humiliating first round stoppage, I would want to avenge that defeat.

You're thinking as a fan rather than a fighter. Big difference. Did John Ruiz fancy giving David Tua a rematch after a humbling first round defeat when he became WBA champ? Did Wlad fancy giving Corrie Sanders a rematch or Ross Puritty for that matter? They both took fights afterwards that made most sense to them at the time.

Every fight is about making as much cash as possible and I don't see Khan fighting anyone for a long while now that isn't going to be about generating the most cash possible. There's talk of moving to 147 if he beats Bradley so is Prescott going to move again? Prescott just doesn't bring that much to the table. I can see Khan only giving Prescott a rematch when it's mandated.

Unfortunatly in the real world the idealist approach and the capitalist approach aren't compatible and Khan's team have already made that abundantly clear with the move to Primetime. You may say Khan lacks balls, but his team and Goldenboy are there to make him and them the most money. As the Americans say, "if it makes Dollars, it makes sense" There are far too many other fights out there that make far more dollars, so make far more sense to entertain Prescott for a long time.

What a great post. You're right on 99% of what you say. When I said if I was a world champion, I was't thinking as a fan. That's just the kind of person I am. If someone beats me at something, then I do everything in my power to get better and beat that person.
If I was Khan (and I know I'm not) I would have to have a rematch with Prescott, but that's just my opinion.

I agree that with millions and millions of pounds at stake Prescott would be a risk, but taking on Bradley is also a risk and hats off to Khan and Goldenboy for going after that match.

I must admit I too would like to see Amir Khan go back with Breidis Prescott so we can clearly see what improvements he has made since Prescott bulldozed in 54 seconds., however I doubt it will actually happen as Khan and Golden Boy will see it merely as a high risk low reward fight with Khan only benefiting through burying a demon in Prescott.

No, I have always felt that Prescott is unfinished business for Khan. Everyone can claim Khan would steamroll him but that is what everyone thought he would do the first time.

Prescott has been through a lot of wear and tear since then, but so has Khan, and Breidis is currently scheduled against the tougher comp. If he gets through that, maybe Amir will be tempted to try and take his belt.

When you have a horrible chin anything can happen against someone with big power. He stiffened Khan with his first jab last time.

Prescott really wings the punches in and with a nutritionist could really be a big bomber at 140lb and has the frame.

I thought he got robbed against McCloskey. But is a bit crude/angry, which can be manoeuvred by a slick or focused boxer.
