Re: Is Bellew To Blame?
Right seems now like a shameless ploy to up the PPV numbers.SteveDow wrote:Of course the German deserves blame but how anyone can absolve Bellew or Warren of any blame also is beyond me. Both have lost a lot of credibility over this.
Cheap stunt.

Gutted for them both to be honest. Clev has yet another opponent and is probably completely deflated. Bellew has busted a gut and just couldn't cut anymore.
Let's hope they meet further down the line

No denying Bomber's got big balls. Still smells a bit fishy tho, and i feel FW has used the needle angle to flog a bit more PPV. Feel sorry for Clev, he's worked his arse off and will get no respect for the belt he would have taken off Braemer anyway, also in his head he's got another last minute stand in. Fair play to Bomber tho', no doubt at all that he's up for it
Re: Is Bellew To Blame?
Totally agree' excellent publicity stunt from warren' for tony too.SteveDow wrote:Partly to blame for sure. He blatantly lied about the weight and about having fulfilled all of the requirements of the BBBC to enable him to fight. That statement alone is essentially saying that the fight is certain to be on.
However, Warren is equally culpable. The guy has put on a high profile press conference which without doubt was aimed at selling any remaining tickets and getting multiple PPV buys without knowing for sure if Bellew could make the weight thus duping the fans (of which I wasn't one fortunately) into buying tickets/PPV which they would not otherwise have bought. In this situation and with the level of publicity and excitement, a compromise should have been reached in the form of a catchweight so that even if the fight was not for a world title it would at least have still been on.
It's another example of everything that is bad with British boxing and boxing in general. Lies, deceit, lack of empathy for fans and most importantly a complete insult to the intelligence of the fans.
Utter disgrace and the guy will still put this joke on PPV.
Re: Tony Bellew - I WANT THE FIGHT!!! - Looking a bit silly now
That depends entirely on how much room there was for the weight to come off. If he was already dehydrated and devoid of food, you're probably right. Don't forget that little Pacquiao always used to put on over a stone from the weigh-in to the fight, though, and Bellew is much, much bigger.taffytoon wrote:Ian if the rumours of 13 stone (182lb) are true then Bellew must have known good and well he could not drop 7lb in a day. Come onIan 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:I have to disagree. I'm 100% sure that Bomber thought he would make the weight, and thought the Board would allow him to do it.
Anyone who thinks he's gone through this thinking otherwise, that he's just done it for the publicity or whatever, is way off the mark.
Only my opinion.

Who let the press conference go ahead they are to blame for lot of this!
Re: Tony Bellew - I WANT THE FIGHT!!! - Looking a bit silly now
Why? Because he couldn't make the weight in a couple of days?FIGHTFANs wrote:JUST GOT THIS OF BELLEW TWITTER

Tony mentioned yesterday about Kerry Kayes being able to work wonders and gave a couple of examples - I'm sure he truly believed he could get the weight off, and the posts condemning him are daft.

I'm gutted this is off but glad if it means his health stays intact.
It does stink of a ploy to seell more PPV, but anyone moaning about buying the PPV off the back of the Presser I have to ask, why on earth buy a PPV anytime before the start of the show? I always press the red button minutes before the show starts when I know the card is intact! Past experience of shows falling apart should have taught us this!!

Re: Tony Bellew - I WANT THE FIGHT!!! - Looking a bit silly now
It seems TaffyToon has the hump with Bellew for agreeing to an almost impossible task with WBO champion Nathan Cleverly then failing to make the weight.
Was Tony Bellew misleading when discussing his weight? Maybe, but he had a world title opportunity against a guy he genuinely dislikes and against a boxer he's certain he can beat.
Bellew ran 24 miles complete in two days and I hear from reliable sources that he was also shifting weight on the way down to London, his appearance at the now famous press conference was no publicity stunt as the pale, gaunt Bellew had made the trip down from Liverpool in the early hours with a genuine belief he would be fighting for a world title.
Taffy claims in another post that Bellew was disrespectful for lying about his weight then proceeding to call Cleverly "a f*****g rat," suppose its perfectly fine to address Bellew as "bum" then?
Bellew tried his utmost to make this fight happen but it just wasn't meant to be, hopefully his time will come again

Bellew needs to remember that tweets can be viewed way back
When the fight was pulled he said he was down to 7 lbs from big numbers...
Yet, 24 hours earlier, before the fight was agreed, he had said he was sitting around relaxing at 6.5lbs off the limit...

At the press conf. he was very evasive on the weight issue and said he had done what the board asked him to do.

Bellew stated on Twitter earlier this eeek that reports he was a stone over were untrue he was 6.5 pounds over and waiting to finalise. Clearly that was bollacks.taffytoon wrote:Ian, FW has openly stated that Tony told him he was only 4lb over the limit, this is clearly not the case, comes into the prees confrence like a mad man and then tries to get a catch weight. Sorry Pal that is not on :shame:Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Weight loss is a weird thing mate - King G on here is the man to explain that. Even if he was a stone overweight a couple of days ago - or even yesterday - all I'm saying is I'm sure he believed in his own mind he could do it.taffytoon wrote: Ian if the rumours of 13 stone (182lb) are true then Bellew must have known good and well he could not drop 7lb in a day. Come on
He's fu**ed up, for sure but I'd be amazed if there was any malice in it. I know you're mega pissed off mate, and I totally sympathise.
