Ha ha! Sorry mate, I was just about to go off on a rant if it didn't feature Macklin and Sturm.

Last week had Ryan and Saul and there is no doubt that Haye will feature next week. I was going to further suggest that if Macklin was fighting the cockney hypejob that he would surely then secure the prime slot given BNs lust for all things barker and London in general.

Luckily I don't have to do that in public now as you ain't Flexen and if I did say those things it would only make me enemies I don't need it that's a lucky escape I guess. :TU:

Really hope that he does it.

Form says he gets picked apart and stopped late or widely outpointed.

However if Javier Casternopunchero can stop Sturm then Matthew can.

Macklin needs to keep it tight and compact, apply intense pressure, short power hooks head and body and break Ze German down.

If he’s good enough to do it remains to be seen.

some really aren't giving macklin a chance. i think a few ppl can see a winky wright vs adrian dodson/steve foster sr/ensley bingham type of whitewash. (sturm is like an orthodox winky, in many ways...interestingly, macklin had trained to fight winky, before wright pulled out, last year.(

even for the pessimists though, there would seem to be a genuine window for macklin to win:

in a recent interview, sturm seemed eager to impress american viewers (can't recall the name of the channel that will broadcast it - epix?) and talked of how he wanted to impress, by using hooks and power shots. thus setting up a super type of matchup with sergio martinez. sturm is not a puncher, the strategy would seem out of character, and the only time you can hit him is when he opens up. could sturm be giving macklin the perfect chance to hurt him?

sturm will break him down late after zapping that rapier jab into Macklins face for 5-6 rounds macklin will unravel.

Never has been disciplined and focussed enough to be a world champ im afraid.

wide ud /late stoppage sturm.

maclin needs to live on sturms chest and give it to him downstairs to stand any chance.

He's a Brummie full-stop. Boxed for England as an amateur. Never lived in Ireland apart from a few summer holidays. Doubt he would be sold as Irish if Brian Peters wasn't his manager, but Peters can get him on RTE.

You know f*ck all on this subject Gobbles. I have known Macklin since he was 15 - he is from the large Birmingham Irish community of South Birmingham - the same as the likes of Frankie Gavin etc.

He hasn't just latched on to his heritage to get easy TV dates - he boxed for Small Heath abc as an amateur which is full of Birmingham Irish kids (at least the white lads down there are!)

If you were to ask someone from that background they would tell you that they are proud Brummies, most definitely yes, but also they are proud to be Irish descent and their connections to Ireland are far stronger than you know-it-all posters like to make out. The area is full of Irish pubs, clubs, shops and community centres. The Catholic schools are full of Irish descent kids (although Matt went to Solihull School).

Why don't you come for a drink in somewhere like Vaughans down on the stratford rd where Macklin drinks and you can tell all the locals how Matty's Irish connections are overblown to get a TV deal..

I am glad you said that Tel because I really didnt want to bite at the ignorances of the trolls!

Should Macklin pull off the win here tonight, maybe gobbles and the likes should come down to Casey Joes in Acocks Green on Monday and tell them that Macklin is a "kiddieonmick"

Tez not disputing anything youv said but i dont think Matt boxed for small heath because of the Irish connection i think he boxed there because it was birminghams top club.
The birmingham Irish Boxing club was actualy closer than Small Heath

It isn't trading on anything. He has no English blood, he may be culturally English through growing up here but if he chooses to call himself Irish who are you to disagree with him?
Yep, exactly right. Watching the youtube video of his weigh-in, there are many Irish tri-colour flags in the watching/supporting crowd and not one single English or British flag.

Unfortunately English people dont tend to understand this type of issue. Very unfortunate, but its purely their ignorance to even attempt to criticise Macklin on this.

Yep Small Heath has a great pedigree but that, coupled with it's Digbeth base, Irish head trainer, club shows at venues like the Irish centre and the Emerald club, and long standing reputation has seen many Irish descent lads box in their colours (Darren Sweeney etc)

I know Birmingham Irish abc well myself having spent lots of time down the Mirfield but Macklin boxing for Small Heath as opposed to Brum Irish doesn't add any weight to this idea that Macklin is billing himself as Birmingham Irish for publicity/convenience only, in my view.

Anyway, enough of the BS - I am hoping that Matty can become the first world champ from Brum but really think he has his work cut out in Germany if Sturm boxes to a strict game plan. Sturm's jab, outside work and movement could give Matty fits; just hope he can keep patient, avoid marking up and lower the boom sometime in the second half of the fight.

Gwan you Brummie (of Irish descent of course   ) :TU:
