It's fair to say that if you've got existing back trouble your more likely to get injured in a boxing ring, for that reason it was probably a bad choice by all concerned to have him in there and if I'd known beforehand I'd have bet on a burns stoppage aswell. however as I said in my earlier post you can't blame cook for earning a living if doctors are saying he's good to go.

To be fair, it was supported by a VERY good undercard, so no big deal.

I've had a slipped disc, and also have slight degenerative disc disorder. Once you have had a ruptured disc, there is a permanent underlying weakness, and you are prone to it happening again.
However, if you've had a slipped disc, boxing is one of the worst possible sports. Disc injuries are aggravated by movements which combine bending from the waist, and flexion pivoting through the hips, movements that you do every time you throw punches.
I think it is likely that they wanted to get him one last payday because they knew his career was coming to an end. Can't blame them for that. I'm sure they hoped he could somehow pull it off, but knew it wasn't likely.

People do not usually 'lump on' at the bookies hoping for a 'freak occurrance'
Though, just in case m'learned friends (and sponsors of Saturday's Liverpool show, no less!) are scouring the forum for action-inducing posts on their client's behalf, let me make it clear that I am not saying it wasn't a freak accident...

Shame on the those small-time bookies, like Ladbrokes and Coral for sullying his golden name with rumours of a 'FIX' in the house, by removing many of the betting options, forced by a London-led pattern of suspicious bets against him.
When I say grace before my Sunday roast, I shall will the lord into giving this fine sportsman a dose of good luck.
It's the very least he deserves.

I think a fighter always sees the dream, the chance to overcome the odds and gain that elusive glory. For me, the responsibility of applying a realistic balance comes down to the team. I am surprised Nicky was allowed to fight, moreso as his father was part of his team. Perhaps as his father, he saw the dream too, but betting patters suggest that somebody knew better.
Nicky Cook is a credit to boxing, his heart ruled his head in taking this fight. I hope this doesn't detract from everything he's given in the past.
