Perhaps he's a little more prickly, and less smooth, than perhaps Harry Carpenter would have been, but he's still doing his job in the way I want it done.

Watch the tape and see Mrchants response to floyd saying he dies not get a fair shake.

MERCHANT BECOMES AGGRESSIVE!

Floyd should have shoved the mic up his nappy!

I think what you'll find happens is that Floyd steps around so he can square up to Merchant, then he starts aggressively attacking Merchant verbally by you never give me a fair shake over, and saying that the interview as being over. Faced with this, Merchant asks, with a raised voice, it has to be said, "what are you talking about?" So, Mayweather starts going off on one about never being given a fair shake, but it's Merchant who is out of order by asking him what he's talking about?

And the fact you think that a 34 year old trained fighter should physically attack an 80 year old man just about sums up where you are mentally.

This, to be honest.

Still was hilarious to see Mayweather go off on one and Merchant insist on replying.

You can't blame a reaction to an event for the event itself. It would be like blaming France's decision to declare war on Germany for Germany's invasion of Poland.

Look, Merchant is there to get questions answered. Floyd wanted to thank God, his team, the people for coming, and repeat the same thing "the rules say defend yourself at all time" over and over. He then got aggressive with Merchant for asking for an answer, and made a serious accusation (for a journalist) of bias. Merchant asked what he was talking about, clearly annoyed at the baseless accusation and also for clarification, and Floyd just goes off it.

And Floyd ought to act professionally, too.

Jon, why don't you just say what you think

I have to agree that Ortiz was stupid to Butt Floyd.............

For me he was hanging in there, but was getting caught an awful lot and not doing a great deal to Mayweather. In all honesty, Ortiz relaxed too much after the butt, kissing floyd etc and he went out of fight mode...............

I will beg to differ regarding you views on Floyd :D

Baseless? Merchant does this to fighters he hates.

Floys is a fighter. A reporter is to be impartial and level. Merchant is just an attention whore.

Which part of telling a fighter you would 'kick his ass' is in Merchants job description?

Answer that.

Floyd followd the rules of boxing hence no complaintfrom ANYONE on the Ortiz team.

And dont forget to answer the question about Merchant job description.

also in the interview with ortiz he ask's about the the head butt and then seems to answer the ? himself, and be excusing him for it, was that some sort of reflex action is what merchant said. and accepts ortiz view that it was an accident. no it was a blatent butt and if he was impartial he would off pressed ortiz on his response like he tried to with mayweather.

Merchant asks all fighters tough questions if tough questions are needed. If there is something that needs to be said or asked, Merchant is brave enough to do it. But Floyd thinks that if someone stops his infomercial or pulls him for not answering a question, or generally isn't the sycophantic sort he usually surrounds himself with, then they're 'haters'. Alas, his fans, as you prove, take the same idiotic attitude.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people still plough with this 'racist' 'hater' thing. If you can't argue or debate, quit throwing this sh*t out. Merchant's favourite fighters of all time are people like SRR and Henry Armstrong, so accusing him of being racist is hilarious.

I am taking a guess here, that some of these Mayweather fans are fairly young people. Mayweather acts like d*ck and knew he was wrong. What he did was 'legal' but wrong and he knew it. So he did not take to kindly to Merchant questioning on it. The guy is bully, he tried to bully Merchant, he beats up women, he tries to bully opponents....and people say he is a 'nice guy' really. A SRL or Thomas Hearns, if they were around today, would show him what its all about. Shame.

Larry Merchant is only a hater in the warped minds of Mayweather, his fans and his hangers on who seem to believe that anything other than slavishly obsequious, slobbering praise is "hating". Merchant is a consummate professional, as anyone will tell you who has worked with him or been associated with him during his time at HBO. If Merchant asks a question, and Floyd plays politician and doesn't answer it, I want Merchant to push.

You Floyd fans might want to listen to your main man give his little three minute monologue, where he thanks God, people for coming, his team and then talks about how great he is so you can look misty-eyed at the screen, but I want him to answer questions. And since HBO is his employer, and has paid for all the ostentatious consumption he values so much, I think Floyd is obliged to play ball.
