BIGMARK wrote:i was over on Doghouse for a long time and although there wasnt very many of us it was a very high quality for a while with a slippers and pipe kind of feel  When that site went a mad and Quixall got the banned for something that wasnt worthy of ban a lot of us jumped ship with a few ending up on here.

THis site tends to move quite fast sometimes and while i would sometimes post long posts here if you do that they are generally ignored, sometimes i miss that hardcore 10 or so posters over on Doghouse as it was slower and most stuff drew a response.
It was like a gentleman's club over at doghouse, there were the hard core supporters of about 10 people and we knew each other quite well. I came over here just before i got banned for telling Glaxor the website manager how his site could be improved to create more traffic and a few of us got involved. In fact i think it was when i was saying what the benefits of boxrec were that i got the ban  However quite a few of us jumped ship including Bigmark and we set up the prediction league over here and i think we have both felt at home here ever since. Jon Saxon also followed us over and few others. I do sometimes miss the connection we had at dogpound but ive found that i'm getting to know people and getting used to quite a few over on this site now, though that is more difficult when you have way more posters...............

Glaxor turned into a dick didn't he Mark and i don't think their British section has improved since we left !!

Crikey, this thread conjured up a whole series of emotions. My initial reaction is that I'm with Terry in that the level of debate/interaction has declined, and I certainly feel that in recent months I've been posting less as a result.
I'm really conscious of not wanting to fall into the 'rose-tinted' approach of "it was all better in my day", but also have to be honest and say that those posters who I've always found most stimulating, don't seem to be as active any more - specifically both KGs (King and Galaxy), Ben Carey, Spud, Mighty Warrior, Ian (I know you're still on here fella, but not as much as I'd like!), David Payne, Loynesy and a few others from the 'old school'.
I don't mean that to sound disparaging to the 'new guys' who've joined in recent years, but I'm just trying to be honest about who I like reading/engaging with.
I'm not sure whether it's symptomatic of the general malaise with boxing at the moment; I certainly feel more disillusioned with it these days, but maybe in part that's because I'm overseas again so don't feel as 'close' to everything that's happening?

This forum is better than any boxing news site. So many people on here have connections to pro fighters and I've lost count of the number of times a "rumour" about a proposed fight, a fighter not making weight etc. has popped up and 24 hrs lo and behold it was fact. The endless different threads on the same topic are annoying but besides that still a top forum in my eyes.

I mean we've got writers, current professional fighters, boxing magazine editors, boxing tv presenters, trainers, ex professionals, amateur fighters, promoters, managers all posting on here. Can't beat the insider knowledge and information. We should count ourselves very lucky.

It was better in the old days when we didn't have wives, kids, jobs, and lawyers. That said this is still a great forum. There was a recklessness about boxing forums years ago which made them fun. Then we all got bored and grew up.

I am glad Carey and his gang do not appear that often.

The only person who kept this place alive was David Payne, he deserves a knighthood for his services to boxing forums.

I would like to see the mature discussions which took place involving anyone else and Chris Aston, he brought a wonderful insight into how boxing works and knew how to write his thoughts in such a wonderful diplomatic way.

Tony Dodson getting annoyed would be good although learning how to write in English before he comes back may be prudent.

I always remember the wonderful friendship that existed between Wayne Alexander and Arnie Farnell whilst everyone around them were spitting feathers.

The arguments and the controversy needs to return instead of people being sh it scared of saying a word out of place.

Finally the In House Lawyers for the respective promotional firms can go and ???? themselves in my view.

Until the controversy comes back this place will be as exciting as watching paint dry.

You raise some interesting points. Personally, I think the forums are worse off for the boxers' contributions - in terms of creating objectionable and stimulating debate. I know that sounds ridiculous but I feel we end up with more threads about a particular fighter (s), they often only wish to engage when they're winning, they share very little inside gossip (which many posters would prefer) and many posters (not all) vere away from stating what they really think without wishing to offend them.

Controversy and spats will get the punters back in.

The moderators do a fantastic job but get a bit twitchy when the arguments start, they simply do not realise that is what people want to see. Time and time again the controversy threads are the most read by a long way, if you doubt what I state, If you have time on your hands trawl through previous threads you will see I am correct.

Let the arguments flow and the controversy back in and the old timers will return.

Simples.

I think the site should be a mixture of writing styles, bit like watching tv, sometimes you watch a documentary on Ancient Rome and then other times you want to watch an episode of Eastenders and fat pat having a go and someone lol

There are too many on here who jump on a boxers band-wagon if they post on here .. especially if they post on a regular basis
It is good to have the current boxers on here. But as said - they aren`t gonna let slip any inside gossip. They are only going to try to sell their next fight or potential fights.
A couple of years ago the forums were less regulated - nowadays its understandably got one eye on potential libels etc

Spot on Ben - the presence of boxers on here has took a sting out of debate and when they grace us with their presence - posts about them shoot up tenfold.

Stu Jones is a fantastic poster, knows his boxing and good on Boxing Pirate in giving out much love to one of the best posters on here. Probably the best poster.

Stu is tremendous - totally agree. Back to my previous point regarding the boxers stiffling debate, the only exception to the rule for me is Curtis Woodhouse. Honest, respectul and insightful and prepared to post whether he wins, loses or draws. I wish more would adopt his mindset because I think the forum would be far better off for it.

This is a wonderful boxing forum and the only one I bother with. However, nothing beats the old Boxing Monthly guestbook in its heyday, with resident legends such as Bigdog, Trish, BC Bob, TMK, Goz and of course, Lord Lionel. The greatest, most dysfuctional virtual boxing family ever :bag: Strange that the man himself, Glyn Leach, held aloof from getting involved in his own creation.

Are we fornicating living on a totalitarian site..............

Are we not grown up enough to leave stuff in and let other people make up their minds ?

who on earth is this boxing pirate eegit? coming on here, been a member a few months , and actually performing opinions that have made this place go downhill in the first place. I still post on here, i cant keep away, but i certainly dont go out of my way to get on here, even on holiday, like i used to.

Ben has a point....many of our personal circumstances have changed over the last 7 years or so...wives, girlfriends (sometimes both.. ;;-) ) have meant that people has less time to devote to surreal realism!

I hope many of the boxers and other trade experts return, i have enjoyed the input of both curtis and bomber in recent times, very honest and succinct.

I truly mean it when I say Boxing Pirate should have every post deleted.
In fact - ban him.
He is a poor man's Johnny Depp. His knowledge of boxing would not fill the back of a fag packet.
David Payne should be a worried man with all those gushing love messages - he has been accused of being a stalker in the past.
I can't believe he's back around here - it felt like someone had walked over my grave.
