It's a fine achievement no doubt especially considering his age. But purely in terms of the number of fights it's not really that few.

Ali won the HW championship in his 19th fight (admittedly he didn't have to unify titles like Tyson did)

Holyfield was cruiserweight champion in his 11th fight, undisputed cruiserweight champion in his 17th and then undisputed heavyweight champ in his 24th fight

How about Undisputed Light Heavyweight Champion, Linear and IBF Heavyweight Champion 31-1 (21 KO) Michael Spinks?

Became WBA Light Heavyweight Champ in his seventeenth fight, added the WBC title in his twenty-third and added the newly created IBF title in his twenty-fifth. Then moved up to Heavyweight winning the IBF and lineal versions in his twenty-eighth. Despite the Tyson loss he had an impressive career overall.

However the winner (in terms of impact on the sport) who has thus far been overlooked has to be
James J Corbett (won 11 (KO 5) + lost 4 (KO 3) + drawn 3 )

Two other fighters that spring to mind are David Reid & Davey Moore, neither set the sport on fire but they both won world titles in a very short period of time.

He probably didn't achieve the most in the fewest, but Naseem Hamed didnt do so bad.

clubberlang.....i'm inclined to agree that corbet probably mde the most impact with the fewest fights. he hasn't been overlooked though, as i listed him in my earlier post.

He knocks out Darinchyan in his 19th professional fight to take Darinchyan's Flyweight titles defends them three times. Steps up to Bantamweight and knocks out Fernando Montiel to win the WBC and WBO bantamweight titles and defends them against Omar Andres Narvaez.

Must have overlooked your post. Your spot on though, Corbett brought boxing into the modern era and also introduced science & tactics to a sport which was short on anything other then brute strength and durability.

It is a bit of a myth (because gloved fights werent considered fights). But Paddy Ryan - World heavyweight champion on debut certainly takes some beating. In fact i dont think it is possible to beat it!

Yeah . . . except among the heavyweights, it's clearly Jeffries . . .

Corbett - 6 years to title shot; Jeff, 4 years to title shot.
Corbett - 16 fights before title shot; Jeff - 12 fights before title shot.
Corbett - one successful title defense; Jeff - seven successful title defenses.
Corbett lost title to Fitzsimmons and failed in two additional title tries against Jeffries; Jeff retired as undefeated heavyweight champion, and failed in one comeback attempt against Jack Johnson.

......one might add though that many of those early corbett fights were considered amateur matches, done in gentleman's clubs...(no, not the pole dancer ones) ..by some historians...fewer number of rounds for one thing. plus, sullivan was such a huge favorite over corbett that when the result was telegraphed around the country it wasn't believed by most who heard it and verification had to continue being sent.

overall career.....okay, jeffries...but getting there fastest...corbett.
