I largely agree with most of that, and it's probably safe to say he's not a "natural" fighter. But what the Sprott fight DID show, as well as the late stages of the first Williams fight, is that he shows his heart when his back is to the wall. I think he struggles more with the thought of getting hit, than with the reality of it. He fought scared against Williams in their first match until he got knocked down. He got up from that and fought spiritedly in the 11th and 12th. And as for the Sprott rematch, if he genuinely lacked the heart for competition then he would have bailed out at any point, citing the injury. So while indeed he may not be a natural fighter, but he does have heart, as incongruous as that may sound.stujones wrote:Talented ATHLETE yes.... I agree with you, though, his talent was unquestionable but he never truly dedicated himself as a pro. Getting a £2m contract and ludicrous media attention before your first fight will often have that effect.
It doesn't matter if he lives like a monk and trains like Rocky Balboa (after his heart to heart chats with Adrian) for 365 days a year..... if he aint got the in born mindset - it aint happening. That is what seperates boxers/fighters from athletes.
I know I will expect a response from someone regarding the Michael Sprott fight - but the fact he hardly disguised a sore shoulder sort of highlights the point.

Yeah, ive said that before. He is a very funny fighter to figure out indeed, it could be he wins or losses most fights in the dressing room before walking out.oliverfennell wrote:I largely agree with most of that, and it's probably safe to say he's not a "natural" fighter. Maybe Audley "think too much, naaa"
I remember Helio Gracie saying the best Ju jitsu fighters were usually a bit thick. Clever people over analyze, apparently.

I never mentioned anything about him being a disgrace to the sport, but despite the meagre achievements you have listed, I maintain that he has been an embarrassment to himself, when you consider how big his gob is.kingfinn wrote:Whats he done thats so embarrassing? he won prize fighter, won the EBU, the WBF, pasted danny williams, sparked sprott after fighting almost the whole fight wih one arm, won a gold medal, and took a world title fight.Syntax Error wrote:I don't know what hold Audley Harrison has over some people, but after all his failure & embarrassment in the ring, I am flabbergasted that there is anyone outside of the Harrison household that would want to see him fight ANYBODY (I'm not even 100% that any of his family would want to see him fight TBH).
He may not have set the boxing world on fire but the talk about him being a discrace to the sport is drastically exaggerated.
Perhaps if he'd have kept quiet & just got on with it, he wouldn't be viewed that way by me, but the fact the ran off his gob then fought like a frightened kitten almost every time he was met with adversity just sums him up for me.

I wasnt just talking about you, i was talking in general. I can see why people think what you think but to be honest he's done a lot better than most british heavyweights who are heralded heroes eg Danny williams, chisora, even sprott. He should have been more humble in many people opinion but imo quite boxers are boring - its all about the hype!!!Syntax Error wrote:I never mentioned anything about him being a disgrace to the sport, but despite the meagre achievements you have listed, I maintain that he has been an embarrassment to himself, when you consider how big his gob is.kingfinn wrote:Whats he done thats so embarrassing? he won prize fighter, won the EBU, the WBF, pasted danny williams, sparked sprott after fighting almost the whole fight wih one arm, won a gold medal, and took a world title fight.Syntax Error wrote:I don't know what hold Audley Harrison has over some people, but after all his failure & embarrassment in the ring, I am flabbergasted that there is anyone outside of the Harrison household that would want to see him fight ANYBODY (I'm not even 100% that any of his family would want to see him fight TBH).

Ali adams in april is getting KO'd then we'll see what fights the big man gets and if he can get some redemption.
Re: Audley V Fury Petition!!
Nail on head - he over analyses completely. He talks about "camps" and "strategies" all the time. Early career it was as if in his "camps" he was only working on one thing at a time and waiting for it to "click into place". Haye didn't fight as Audley predicted and he couldn't cope.Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:Yeah, ive said that before. Will never forget his "its getting there" post fight interview post Rogan. He'd just been beaten by a novice cab drive.
He thinks to much, he strategies too much.... he needs to sometimes, not always, just out there and throw freaking punches. He tries to be a Lennox, but fails miserably - and sometimes Lennox would just go out there and throw shots. Even in the good, spirited efforts you mention.... there wasn't an air of desperation in Audley's work - normally I would say thats a tremendous thing, but not in those fights.
I do think he has bravery yes, but fighting instinct no - Had Sprott not been stupid I really don't think Audley would have gone "right, I am a mile behind on points, I just better throw the kitchen sink at him" - he would have waited and waiting trying to land that big shot. Sprott, luckily for him, gave Audley the chance that he shouldn't have.
