Wiliams deserves a shot, but no more then Daws, who stopped Williams when they met. Murphy stepped in at short notice when nobody else would and he is Southern Area Champion so a legitimate contender, Murphy did give Theophane nightmares, so that proved it. Theophane in my opinion, if he has chosen Daws, has picked the hardest match, so that don't make him a coward, thats for sure. Talk of Arthur is more down to world rankings, this fight would help on his quest for a world title fight more then anyone else.
Pure naivety in my opinion.
Murphy was area champ at a lower weight.
As for the hardest match, I disagree. Surely given the evidence of the Murphy fight, you would have to say that the most hungry fighter would be the most difficult for Theophanes next defence? Williams and Woodhouse both have more hunger now than Daws.
Do you really think Arthur is about world rankings? Really? Honestly though? Wow.

Amazing how fickle some people are on the forums, not so long ago Woodhouse was going to get destroyed by Gavin and not thought good enough to get the shot in the first place, before that he was written off after his first loss as a fighter going nowhere, now all of a sudden a british champion who has beat an ex world champion in the states is scared of him. Theophane stopped Cook in great fashion, dominating him, were as Woodhouse proposed fight with Cook was seen as a step up for Woodhouse and hard to call. Gavin refused the Cook fight, because Cook was too risky for a warm up fight, so that sums it up for me.
gavin didnt want to fight cook for a warm up and i would agree with him, cook has fought the british champ twice out of his last three fights so gavin should wait and fight abit of a lesser known person cause he hasnt fought since woodhouse but lets not stray away from what the topic is,williams is the number one contender and ash wont fight him, woodhouse has offered to fight him for nothing and he turned that down so who in the british boards eyes deserves a british title shot above these two? maybe lenny daws does deserve his rematch other than that there isnt anyone and for ash to put across that murphy was a genuine contender for the title is laughable.

and for the record daws didnt stop steve williams it was his management team cause of a cut, williams didnt want to be pulled out but gilmour asked barry hearn will he get another shot and hearn said yes but since then eddie hearn has taken control of matchroom and hatton promotions are the management team behind ashley so there it is,it shouldnt be down as a stoppage it should be down as retired not stoppage.

Lenny Daws had a rematch clause but couldnt take the fight after his baby was ill so he's just as deserving as Williams

From what I remember williams team thought he was way behind on the score cards and taking too much punishment, but in reality the score cards where closer, but it does not matter now. In my opinion Williams is a very good fighter and would be a good matchup with Theophane, but I think Daws will get the fight.

ye your right its done now,i think ash will fight arthur next then vacate and i think it will be daws vs williams for the vacant title. if ash does fight arthur next he has lost alot of peoples respect cause he is not anywere near the next in line.

I think that's the right call Eddie.
Would have been nice if Ash had actually answered my post, stated what was happening, then justified his choice then we would all have to shut up.
I guess if you can't justify it .....

im not knocking ash as a person he is a decent guy but all this with the defence has left a sour taste in my mouth and a few peoples who are involved in the light welter weight division,i take a strong interest in the british scene at this weight because unless you havent already guessed ste is a good friend of mine and i want to see him do well and get what he has earned and that is a shot at the belt, what ever you do ash i wish you all the best and whatever i have said if it offended it wasnt meant that way

As a side note fellas, he can't win his Lonsdale belt outright if his next defence isn't a mandatory, to win it outright you have to make 3 defences including one mandatory.

Woodhouse has shown that he will get in with anyone and will disregard most everyones' opionions that he'll get a hiding. He is an improving boxer who has a great attitude toward the sport.
Williams looked fantastic last time out and is strong, skilled and fit.
Theopane has looked shaky at times but has found a way to win. He is a skilled and decent technical boxer; he won't be a world champion as the division is pretty tough.
I am pleased that Wlliams has his chance; it should be a good match of styles.
Curtis ought to be in the running for a shot if he beats someone in the top 10; because he is prepared and financially able to box for free shouldn't make him a top contender.
A win over Alex Arthur (who has done nothing at light welter to deserve a shot) would get Ashley noticed by the ratings men and improve his chances of a World Title shot; Arthur is a recognised name and would be a notable scalp; more so than Daws, Williams or Woodhouse. He'd probably get paid more for boxing Arthur so for Theopane it's a no brainer.

He's a good, strong lad and he looks to take it very serious. Outside of Frankie Gavin he's the best you've come up against; though I reckon he hits very hard.
