Good call, I've just read through this thread, I was surprised at some of the personal stuff on here. I thought Derry would have been a bit ringworn for Crolla and get bust up. It was a decent scrap and Derry just hit too hard for him. Was impressed + Crolla showed guts, he didn't go into a shell. The British Lightweight division is fantastic.

His determination to get as far as he can has never wavered and he just keeps coming back and producing when many including myself thought he would come up short.

It is great to see a boxer posting on this site on a regular basis as Derry Mattews does.

Derry has comeback and proved many critics wrong, since he returned after the bad run he had in 2008-09

This comeback by Derry reminds me of Ian Napa when he returned after a layoff and won british and european titles.

Yes, Matthews is a great example of turning his career around. Colin Lynes is the only active boxer who has done something similar after being written off.

I though the stoppage was early. That said their is a fair chance Crolla might have been stopped later on anyway the way it was going, but he should probably have had the benefit of the doubt.

Tough last six months or so for Gallagher's fighters.

I told people on day one I could beat crolla that's why I took the fight and bet it wiped a smile of a few faces in this chat

Great performance and a great comeback. It seriously was a pleasure watching that Saturday night. Its always nice to see a Scouser beat a Manc, especially in their own back yard. Crolla may well be a nice guy but the pleasure of seeing Derry donthe business was no less pleasurable due to that fact.

Hopefully theres a few more big nights out for Derry on his own patch niw with some big Liverpool nights out in the offing. Another 4* defences and that famous belt will be his for keeps. Be a nice memento for a hard decade as a dedicated pro.
