Rees was in my opinion the weakest of the top four mitchell, murray and crolla. Also the money was good and gave derry a higher rating if he'd of won.
thats a fair point sean

Good call, I've just read through this thread, I was surprised at some of the personal stuff on here. I thought Derry would have been a bit ringworn for Crolla and get bust up. It was a decent scrap and Derry just hit too hard for him. Was impressed + Crolla showed guts, he didn't go into a shell. The British Lightweight division is fantastic.

Just wanted to congratulate Derry Matthews on his great win last night, He is a true warrior in all senses, it obviously means so much and he won't let go of the sport he clearly loves.

His determination to get as far as he can has never wavered and he just keeps coming back and producing when many including myself thought he would come up short.

Great performance, enjoy your moment, its thoroughly deserved.

It is great to see a boxer posting on this site on a regular basis as Derry Mattews does.

Derry has comeback and proved many critics wrong, since he returned after the bad run he had in 2008-09

This comeback by Derry reminds me of Ian Napa when he returned after a layoff and won british and european titles.

Long may your success continue Derry.
Yes, Matthews is a great example of turning his career around. Colin Lynes is the only active boxer who has done something similar after being written off.

Phenomonal show of bravery and will to win. Only Macklin v Moore comes close to this fight in recent years.
Shame there had to be a loser.

Just saw the replay

I though the stoppage was early. That said their is a fair chance Crolla might have been stopped later on anyway the way it was going, but he should probably have had the benefit of the doubt.

Tough last six months or so for Gallagher's fighters.

Great performance and a great comeback. It seriously was a pleasure watching that Saturday night. Its always nice to see a Scouser beat a Manc, especially in their own back yard. Crolla may well be a nice guy but the pleasure of seeing Derry donthe business was no less pleasurable due to that fact.

Hopefully theres a few more big nights out for Derry on his own patch niw with some big Liverpool nights out in the offing. Another 4* defences and that famous belt will be his for keeps. Be a nice memento for a hard decade as a dedicated pro.

A credit to our city.

*my mistake, another 2 defences.

I thought you was past it&would get beat up in this fight&its a good job i didnt have any cash to gamble otherwise id have been skint, well done on that performance it was fantastic&i take my hat off to you
I did send you a message on twitter saying the same,i cant believe all the shit your getting on there after a great performance.
Im with you with what your saying, why should you give him a straight shot if they was over confident&didnt put a rematch clause in,enjoy your break&well done again :TU:

Matthews winning proves having a loss or two on the record is not the end of a career. I hoping a Rees rematch would be good.

I thought it was good to see paul smiths smile wiped off his face,if a fellow scouser was fighting anyone outside of the area id stand by the scouser and if I was in a position paul was in id of stayed on the fence but no billy big balls has a spread in the echo and has his say on ringside. fact is derry has the better record with pound for pound better opponents on his record than anyone else in liverpool, the first two decent lads smigga fought he got his clock cleaned(no disrespect to dodson or quigley) so to me his record was just as padded as a nut house cell, just my opinion like :D

Smigga offered sum1 odds of 50-1 on Derry beating Crolla, theres a massive difference between confidence and respect and he got it wrong with that.

i dont understand why he is like that, they used to be gym mates. derry is a good lad anyone who puts there time into training young kids for free and show them titles for inspiration gets my respect,he does this off his own back and not for personal gain. class :TU:
