If you think that giving up the pop for five weeks during a training camp is the cornerstone of a well conditioned athlete then you are beyond help/

Conditioning is a long drawn out process and if you don't love the life then you will not be at 100%. i never said he staggerd to the ring so no contradictions

But if you think that five weeks off the ale is enough to get Shane to he peak of his powers then that is your call!!

you said he didnt prepare properly mate , dont try to twist it ,

He didnt drink and trained hard , what more could he have done to prepare for this fight , im not talking about his life or his career im talking about this individual fight ,

If you cant take that in then it you who is beyond help im afraid , on the money boxers get to expect them to live like monks for a fight they may never get is rediculous .

a bit like asking you to never write a crap article in case you get offered a journalism job with a newspaper and it comes back to haunt you in the future , but good luck with that .

Edit :

Just to clarify im not saying a boxer shouldnt live the boxers life , of course it vastly helps their career , but to EXPECT everyone to do is just not gonna happen ,
Footballers on the money they get then fine , but sometimes a boxer may not be offered a fight for a year yet you expect them to be t total and in the gym day in day out , it really aint gonna happen in the main .

what more was expected of shane in preperation , no drinking and 100 % effort , with a good game plan , explain what more he could have done , he cant rewind time to stop himself drinking in the past etc , so how on earth was he meant to prepare better for this particular fight ?????

His past is his past , he was training for a future fight not a past fight .

Think of it this way , if i took you into a gym , trained you for a Title fight and you got blown away , no matter how much effort you had put into it , would that be a lack of preperation or would it be more likely that you probably just wasnt good enough , point im making is shane worked with strengths , that was the way he was going to win , no matter how much he worked on his weaknesses he wasnt going to get them up to a standard to put him on a par with enzo .

So his lifestyle contributed to the defeat...

Preparation is a lifes work...it isn't case of 'get out of the pub Shane, you have a fight in five weeks'

The first thing he did when he won the title was get drunk. The first thing he did when he was robbed was say he was off to get drunk.

The man should be an athlete....the final five weeks are getting you up to that elite level when you aren't dead after three rounds.

This doesn't seem a hard concept but Mr hucker is struggling here

I am glad you acknowlege he has limitations out of the ring..and I imagine Carl Greaves hasn't switched water for Carlsberg Special Brew in the corner during training.

But if he wants to make the most of his talents he has to live the life....he needs to become an athlete.

It is only then we will see how good he is!!!

Unless he was going to build a time machine what the hell more was he meant to do , you said he hadnt prepared properly for THIS fight , he cant rewind time , he wasnt preparing for life he was preparing for enzo ,

Your obviously too stubborn to take in anyone else's view , you believe your right when you clearly arent .

fact is HE DID prepare properly , ill remember in future to include a time machine as part of our gym equipment .

its pretty obvious youve never boxed , its all nice and easy to say from the outside when you dont have to make that same commitment

Shane can live his life how he sees fit. You only get one so do what you want with it. There are some people, though, who would choose not to regress the progress they have made in training by taking weeks out of the gym and living soft between fights. A few days off, maybe, but not weeks. I don't want to take this down the line of explaining how training adaptations occur and how they can be lost over time etc. Had he chosen to get straight back into the gym i.e. three or four days - a week tops, after his fight with Leon, he would've been better placed to maintain a decent output versus Enzo.
i completely agree , but whats happened in the past cant be changed , all he can do is go forward , ive no arguement against your points macho in the slightest .

He had to train for that fight and prepare his best , he cant go back in time so he did prepare to the best he could , we know theres more that COULD hve been done in his general lifestyle but in my view thats a completely seperate debate

This
But thats not what you said is it mate , you said he didnt prepare properly for the fight , no other debate matters , mach is touching on a different subjectr as to wether hes lived the life , yes it would help him long term but fact remains he has no time machine so couldnt prepare differently for THIS PARTICULAR FIGHT .

Im off to the gym , ill go order the time machine while im there :TU:

He didn't prepare properly. Going on benders and then relying on a five week training camp to get yourself up to a decent level of fitness isn't perperation my friend.

You would have thought, as a champion, that he would have thought 'bloody hell, I am British champion, no beer or crap, let's make the most of this chance'. Instead he went on the pop, and as Macho says , if he had got back in the gym he would have had more of a chance of a better punch output. So to me, that isn't ideal preperation

You would have thought, when he had been shafted against Enzo he would have thought 'bloody hell, I have been shafted, get us back in the gym Carl, no beer or crap, I'm gonna get that title back.'

Instead we got talk of a twelve day bender because he missed out on Paddy's day.

You can't change the past, but no matter what happens he doesn't seem to be making much attempt to change the future

Later on in the fight Cotto lands a jackpot punch and KO's floyd...

how many people would be saying that was fair? Somehow i think the fight would be instantly ruled a no contest, followed by some aggressive legal action from mayweather.

Congratulations on reading the first paragraph and then feeling you know enough about the context of the piece to reply negatively

fair enough mate, i felt you had a point, i was too judgemental too soon, so i had another bash at it, and stopped reading at this point:

We all have disasters at work. I always feel sorry for those pilots on 'Air Crash Investigation' who are usually decent but have a bad day at the office and crash their plane into a mountain killing everybody on board.

i may have been wrong about how i initially interpreted your comment on "the verdict was fair", my intial reaction was of course it wasn't fair, but if you were talking solely on how the fight was scored by the judges, then you're right, it wasn't the cards that were a scandal.

But the above part is down-right distasteful.

how can you compare a Time Keeper ringing a bell early in a boxing bout, to a Pilot killing a airliner full of people?

And if you had continued to read you would have seen that I said it wasn't anywhere near as serious...Actually I won't bother continuing speaking to you.

Had some great debate here with people who genuinly disagree with my point...you are a burke who is stoppng reading at a point where you can use a throwaway line and twist it out of context.

Adios!

i wasn't twisting anything out of context. this country is a wash with farcical journalism. Why can't he do both?
Its fair enough to mention Shanes conditioning yes, but the article makes his conditioning a main reason for why he lost and furthermore a reason why he the writer and therefore we the readers should not feel sorry for him for losing the title. In this particular situation this is totally unfair and really raises some questions as to the writers motives for angling his story in this manner. Im sure theres certain people who are overjoyed at the fact that here we are musing the ins and outs of shanes digestive system rather than questioning what actually happend during that fight. How many people have even remarked that the points decision in itself was unjust???... not many.
We could talk all day about fighters conditioning, the majority of fighters drink inbetween fights, in fact many drink and party heavily between fights, this is a fact of life. Indeed many fighters party and drink during training, so really to single shane out as deserving his fate due to his not living his life like a monk even when not in training seems extremely harsh and rather niave to me.

I'm sure a lot of people on here want to say it's corrupt but feel they are being held back!

If Shane had been fitter then he would have won the fight, with or without the problems of Mr Fallon. So his diet was a major contributing factor to his loss. Simples. Some of you are either so upset by this conspiracy or so up Shane's ass that you fail to see this as a point. It's laughable!

The rematch is ordered and the evil Mr Fallon is out of a job till 2013...justice is done

It does seem too poor to be a mistake , but i do think that it really was just a string of mistakes to be honest (although wasnt what i originally said on here  )

BBBoC have acted so let just look to the rematch hopefully taking place .
