In those days there was little shame in losing and fighters were only too willing to step up and test themselves. Unlike now when maintaining the zero in your losses column stops many fighters taking even a hint of a risk with their opponent selection.

Yeah. People tend to forget that any boxer is susceptible to a good hit or an injury. Chris Byrd beat Vitali after taking the fight at a week's notice. Vitali did his rotator cuff in. Wlad ran out of steam after 10 rounds against Ross Purrity. He later got stopped in five rounds by Brewster, a fighter many people (including his own father) thought lucky to get a decision against Meehan in his next fight!

Kenna is old and out of shape. But he's very willing. Browne v Kenna would have been a messy brawl.

Might have gone 3 at most.

I was at Kalgoorlie when Browne beat Clarence Tillman. Won every round in the bout and won a unanimous decision. But not at any stage did he look like he was going to put Clarence away. Still one of our better heavies but dont need throwing to the wolves just yet.

He has hardly been thrown to the wolves. More like a pack of corgis.

Then he went back to fighting 4 rounders not long after that. But I hope Browne goes a long way. It just looks like it'll take a long time getting there at this rate.

I don't know why the Hattons went so far down the food chain for this fight. Lucas has beaten fighters with much better credentials than this bloke.

Are they having trouble getting men prepared to fight Browne?

More likely they want to 'showcase' him to the public before matching him with someone he'll need to raise a sweat over.
