Sprott would be a significant step up from Sexton. Sprott is far more proven than Sexton.
Sprott is in no way a step up from Sexton. Sprott's last 14 fights he is 6-8 not exactly good form. He hasn't won a meaningful fight since beating Audley in 2007. He's shot and tbh in his last fight almost gave up. There is 0 chance of Sprott beating Price, Sexton would probably stop him as well

I say Audley because Price will learn more from fighting someone who is closer to his height than fighting another smaller man who he can just outjab.

I don't see a problem with a couple more fights along the lines of Sprott/Audley, Audley in particular would at least again generate some wider interest from the general public which is what they need to do with Price now, keep him on the upward curve. Then maybe in another 2 fights I can see him getting a Euro title shot. After that maybe a couple of 'name' Americans and then really would have to go for a Klitschko.

If Vitali offers him a fight in 12 months time they should jump at it, if Wladimir does I think they should wait another 18 months to 2 years.

Sexton doesn't have power, stamina or punch resistance. Sprott has more of all of those things, as well as achieving more and just being better.

Sprott beat Skelton in the final of PrizeFighter to win it in 2010. Sprott came in at late notice against Pulev, so he wasn't at his best.

Sprott would beat Sexton. Sexton is the least naturally gifted of the top 10 British heavyweights and I am surprised he has got as far as he has as a boxer.

Horse,

Don't forget Sexton beat Rogan twice - this was a Rogan who you deemed good enough to warrant a 6 place rise for Fury in your P4P rankings.... who also KO'd Skelton in a "proper" contest, not on a split decision in a 3 rounder.

Price should now aim to look at Euro opponents. There are plenty of them who are decent. Maybe a few defences, to secure the Lonsdale and a Euro shot. Then maybe some tougher assignments like Arreola, Chambers and a couple of fringe contenders.

Fury rose more because I thought he should be higher, rather than just because of the win.

Even though I don't think Price's win against Sexton is as good as a lot of people are making out, he will still rise up the rankings because of the win like Fury did.

Rogan would probably be more of a threat to Price than Sexton, because Rogan has some power. Sexton had nothing to trouble Price with. Fury would have beaten Sexton in similar fashion.

Fury does not posses anything like the power of Price, in my opinion, Horse. He has plenty of bottle and would have gutted out a win but I definitely think it would be hard work for him.

Sexton has a lot more power than his record suggests and id say he hits harder than Sprott. Sprott is just a journeyman now and is just not very good if were honest

He edged to a victory over a 44 year old thats great form isnt it , he wasn't at his best but the performance was shoking.

Sprott wouldn't beat Sexton, Sexton isn't the most naturally gifted ill give you that, but he has far too much about him to be troubled by Sprott

Sexton struggled with Olubamiwo, I think Sprott would be too much for him. I doubt they will fight each other, so it is all hypothetical.

Aside from Skelton, whose chin hasn't looked great of late, name me one fight against a meaningful name that Rogan has shown this power that you've mentioned often.

Sexton has superior boxing ability as he showed when he beat Rogan twice. It's not all about the power, Sexton could have troubled Price with his boxing. He won rounds against an in shape Chisora.

Fury doesn't have the power of Price, but he would still dominate and stop Sexton. It might take him a couple more rounds, but it would be roughly the same result.

I don't claim that Rogan is a big puncher, but he has more power than Sexton who doesn't really have any.

I think some of you are being too harsh on Sexton, sure he fought the wrong fight against Price and was exposed but I dont see Sprott doing any better in fact I doubt he would get past 3 rounds against Price. Sexton had beat Rogan twice and he gave Chisora a good fight and had him in quite a bit of trouble in their fight before running out of gas so I would rate him a fiar bit higher than Sprott certainly at this stage of their careers. Judging Price by the way he has dispatched Mcdermott and Sexton I think he may well be something special and would put him in against anyone else in Britain at this point...

I never gave Sexton a chance in the fight as he's made to order for someone like Price but i'll give David some credit for taking him out a couple of rds earlier then i predicted.

I still don't rate Price as a future world champion, he'll get taken out brutally the first time Maloney dares to match him with anyone in the Top 20 especially if they have knock out power...he'd get brutally knocked out by someone like Bermaine Stiverne inside 2 rds and Tyson Fury plays with him before putting Price to sleep inside 6 rds.

Saying that i'd like to see David in with someone like Skelton or a riskier fight with Micheal Grant next...maybe even Chauncy Welliver to give him a few rds :)

Sexton had Chisora shook up at least twice in their fight, something that even Klitchenko couldnt really do... so he must have some power/strength

Sprott's durability is far more proven than Sexton's. Sexton has been stopped in all of his losses and he was almost stopped against Rogan in the first fight as well. Sexton has never been past the 9th round of a fight, Sprott has been the 12 round distance many times.

Sexton can land with some sharp punches which can stop someone in their tracks sometimes, but he is a light puncher.

I used to think that Fury would be too much for Price but after watching both their recent few fights Ive changed my mind. While Price has been coming on leaps and bounds Fury has imo gone back and while I agree Prices chin has not yet been tested as a pro I think Furys chin must be questioned based on his recent fights. If the two were to fight at the moment I would favour Price as he seems to have a clear technical advantage over Fury (better defence, speed and power) and it says something that while Price was eager to fight Fury for his titles Fury vacated them rather than face Price in the ring.

Its too early to say for sure if Price will win a world title at this point but I would put him ahead of all our other British heavies at this point, he has good technique, speed and genuine one punch power and if he can take it then he will take a lot of stopping.

I dont see why Price can't go in at European level in his next 1 or 2 fights, he's ready to step above domestic now.

Sprott is a survivor though while Sexton is usually a far more positive fighter. Other than his win over Audely Sprott has few top class wins. I really think at this point that Price would just overwhelm Sprott. Mcdermott is the most durable of fighters and Price got him out of their in just one round, I could see the same happening to the slow starting Sprott who is also well past his best at this point in his career. The best fights for Price at this point would be Fury, Chisora and haye... I really think he would beat them all with Chisora being the toughest test due to his durability. I think a match against Rogan or Matt Skelton next would be interesting then he could go for the winner of the Haye vs Chisora circus or Fury if he finally steps up to the plate....

Horse......

Price just sparked out the highest ranked available conteder for the British title. He needs to move forward, not backwards.

I need to ask you this. Did you see the Skelton vs Kubrat Pulev fight?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GR4xUx7Of8

That was the last time he fought an unbeaten fighter and he got butchered.... and that was two years ago.

Matt is 45 now and wouldn't have a chance of beating Price.

Regarding Sprott. He's lost three on the bounce. Do you really that he is going to provide a test for David Price?

I read all these post and take on what the fans says but we will not change the way we have planned out the route to the big prize. David is a real roll model for boxing and is doing everything the right way. I am more than ever convince big David Price will be world champ with in the next 18/24 months and rule for a long time.

Be nice to see him out again quickly (July), even if it is a tickover fight against someone like Skelton.
