What kind of style does Steward utilize?

It was a good amateur style, he used a surprisingly long jab, lots of footwork, and feints. His style reminds me of a lot of Cuban amateur boxers. It was clearly designed to score points as a lot of the blows were more of a slapping nature. He was good though. He had long arms and looks like if he would have continued fighting he would have grown out the division very quickly.

Just came across this. So this is 5'8" welterweight Dave Shade sparring with 6'1" Jack Renault the heavyweight. Interesting. Must have been after Renault's hair implants and height reduction surgery.

That's Renault whether you want to believe it or not.

"1 Reel

GRANTLAND RICE SPORTLIGHTS

Boxing form is also clearly illustrated in this film. Among the boxers
shown in action are Renault, Dave Shade and Gene Tunney. How Tunney
developed his skill as a boxer is explained. "

It is from the same series of sports films as this:

Might be some middleweight calling himself Jack Renault but it ain't French-Canadian heavywt. Jack Renault.

Its absolutely THE Jack Renault. I dont know why you think its not based on a couple of stills of a film. The film identifies him as Jack Renault. Hes in several scenes of the film and it clearly is him (I would think I know as I studied Renault extensively for my book). This is besides the fact that Dave Shade and Jack Renault were stablemates, being managed by Leo P. Flynn. They were in Miami together, where and when this was filmed, at the time wintering along with several other fighters including Gene Tunney who is also in this film. But whatever, believe what you want, LOL.

Luis Rodriguez last fight. He was facing Canadian Donato Paduano. Its sad to watch. Rodriguez has absolutely nothing left and looks awful. No legs, no technique, wide open. Most amateurs look better than the once masterful Rodriguez. He literally looks like a 60 year old man.

Great photos Steve, thanks for posting.
I have a question in particular of the Jerry Quarry photo that you say vs Joe Alexander in training.

At that time my father brought me (I was 17 at time) to Quarry's training camp. It was a huge white tent set up at a restaurant/ hotel parking lot here on Long Island known as the Island Inn in Westbury ,Long Island, NY. It was torn down years ago. It seated about 200 people give or take in tent. Day I was there The Fifth Dimension Group was there too. About a 15 minute drive from our house. Once there my father introduced to me to family friend Gil Clancy, who was on hand and in turn intoduced us to Jerry after his sparring was over. I know you said it was vs. Alexander, but curious to note that Jerry is wearing a Concord Resort Tee from upstate NY.
Since Jerry fought in Nassau Coliseum vs Alexander, his camp in Westbury (10 mins from Coliseum) I was wondering if the film shows Quarry in the white tent in 1974 ?

I know the Frazier fight in 1974 at the Garden, maybe Quarry was in the tent then, but highly doubtful. Is the Quarry training film for Alexander posted on you tube or elsewhere, I'd sure like to see it. ? Thanks Charlie Norkus Jr.

I believe this is footage of Willie Lewis Vs. Jack Costello at Roubaix, Nord, France in 1909. It's definately Lewis Im just not 100% certain of the opponent.

this link will take you to footage of most of the heavyweight champions. But this particular link to the Bob Fitzsimmons-Corbett fight is the most amazing footage I have seen. Nothing like the Youtube clips that are always posted.

I am interested to know, Klompton and others, if you have footage of this quality or if this is completely knew and something which ESPN has spent a bit of time on enhancing.
