david price tweeted earlier today that he has full faith in maloney getting himself and the rest of the stable the right fights with or without tv .

to me that pretty much confirms it .

Yes but that does not mean Maloney managed fighters wont be under someone else promotion.

Yes, I can see it that happening also (Price being promoted by Matchroom, managed by Frank).

Wasn't Frampton originally both managed AND promoted by McGuigan.

Says in the echo that prices next fight in the uk is likely to be on october 13th and frank maloney has the echo arena booked.
You would think the opponent would have to be a big name for maloney to be confident of selling the echo out this early in prices career.

With Maloney looking to slowly leave boxing I think the idea of Price being promoted by Matchroom is a very good one. Matchroom don't have a decent heavyweight do they? Seems a strange idea for sky to hype Price up to the max to not show anymore of his fights. Did I not hear that Maloney set up a 3 fight deal at Aintree, maybe I mis-read but sure I read that.

Just been perusing the Adam Smith book 'Boxing Brutality' on Amazon. He has Ricky Hatton writing the foreword. Was this before or after SKY canned him? Surely there is more to this than meets the eye. Who is really calling the shots? I don't know, not been following it that closely.

The shots are called by the ratings that the promoter is dragging in for their employer.

Adam Smith is friendly with all parties, left to him he'd keep everybody and even give them more dates. The axe is swung by Barney Francis and the other sky bosses.

The sky bosses will also fall out with promoters even they have a great stable (Hennessy with Froch , Murray , Barker etc a good example)

I personally only subscribe to sky sports for boxing. Don't watch football, rugby etc - just boxing.

And from my personal perspective their have been too many EBU champions fighting some Italian cabbage over the distance, with an undercard made of up of fighters that are undeserving of airtime, but because they're local and shift 30 tickets, they get the gig.

Often these turnips get some chubby Eastern Bloc opponent who is 3 weight classes too high coming in, they last 2-3 rounds.

Even a die hard boxing fan thinks the above formula is crap. And there were promoters out there putting on the above for every sky date they had.

Sure, they might counter the money to make these events isn't good enough. Well shouldn't the promoter actually 'promote' ? In other words book a big venue and a big opponent? Make some gate money? - no they'd rather the gate money just paid for 'sports hall' hire and overheads and rely on the tv cheque.

Then cross their fingers their fighter gets ranked and offered a shot for big money, where they will get their cut and tv rights from.

Well that is all well and good, but I'm the one shelling out for it all, who is receiving no bang for his buck.

Give me fewer dates with better quality anytime. Because I'm sick of filler dressed up as headliner.

I've seen threads on forums discussing a sky bout / round-round with 25 views and 2 replied. Because people don't care about them.

Maybe it all backfires, but something's got to give. Too many long-term fans are shunning it at present.

Cheers Gomez, this is what I was wondering.

Bunce is a hypocrite. If he was on Sky's payroll he'd soon be changing is his script. He's on Frank's payroll and so falls on that side of the fence. What I find offensive is that he uses his BBC London platform to air his bias views. I used to listen to his boxing hour but he's lost all creditability. The guy is a shouty fool.

I agree with Gomez.

Using Frank as an example, he was just sticking shows on for the sake of it at times. A Commonwealth title fight featuring whoever vs a Ghanaian taxi driver.... because there's no interest he'd stage it in Sunderland and put Jeffries on the undercard - sorted.

There was very little promoting going on at all - unless promoting now consists of booking a venue, paying fighters (who sell tickets themselves) and then counting the profit?

I'm not a fan of giving Eddie all the dates, I'd rather them make people tender for dates and money - if Dave Coldwell fancies putting on a show, he should be free to put a plan together, pitching a good main event and competitive undercard at wherever arena and asking Sky if they are interested.

If Eddie makes the right fights often enough I'll support it and admit I was wrong. If we get mismatches or boring shows then I'll criticise.

Maloney, Hatton and Hennessy have all made more than their fair share of shit fights, so only have themselves to blame. Fighters like Eddie because they'll get paid and get regular work.... not sure there's been anyone that's been leaned upon to sign with him.

Your forgetting the portfolio of other sports Matchroom can use to leverage boxing performance/contracts....darts, snooker, poker, fishing, ten pin bowling :D

None of the other promoters have anywhere near the sway of Matchroom with Sky...Even when Wazza was undisputed number one in boxing he was still just a stone in the shoe of Sky...Hearn has and will always be the first pick with Sky...he's got hours of cheap content for them...

The thing with Matchroom though is that they consistently deliver.

I'm not really a fan of what they're doing with snooker, but they've brought darts back from the dead over a long period.

If we see less meaningless vacant title fights or 'never been stopped' challengers, that would be great, even better if we get some domestic #1 vs #2 or #3 plus some co-features building a potential fight next up etc.

Sounds like Bunce will be on the payroll and comes out in full support of Haye v Chisora

People have very short memories of Matchroom. For many years they put on the cheapest shows, at the cheapest venues with no attempt at getting press coverage (they didn't even have a press officer for boxing). Remember that days of Jawaid Khaliq and James Hare in different "world welterweight title" fights weeks apart?

They are flying at the moment because Eddie is hungry. But what if he got handed the snooker or darts part of the organisation, what happens then? Maybe his job was to become Sky's exclusive promoter. If so, job done.

Also, Matchroom getting many more shows means, unless they try to pick off fighters from other promoters, that the talent will be thinned out.

That, or both he and Sky believe he has all the Olympians tapped up.

Channel 5 could show Price and build up the Fury fight. My guess is Maloney will end up on allegedly. Be interesting to see what happens to Maloney and Hatton. Hennessy Sports went through a rough few time after their tv ended and lost their top fighters.
