Junior was the WBC world champion. You are claiming that 12 years ago when Gavin was a child he was schooling boxers that were at a higher level than that. Given that he only lost his crown in a narrow defeat to Timothy Bradley - was it Floyd Mayweather?

If this is true why have Frankie's skills deteriorated that much that 12 years later he is finally moving up to British title level. Many people thought he lost to the relatively raw Curtis Woodhouse who is as game as they come but would admit that he isn't Floyd Mayweather.

Witter is punching concussively in the build-up to this. Let's see if Frankie actually turns up

Witter was 'world' champion in 2008, he hasn't turned in a decent performance since (his British title win against Lynes was dire)

Frankie has massively under performed as a pro and shouldn't be boxing over 10st

I was at Witter's fight against Lynes and most people who I spoke to were surprised at how well Junior performed and the crowd gave him a great reception at the end. I was led to believe that they only showed brief highlights on TV so wondered where you managed to see the fight?

See you obviously know more about boxing than me m8 because i didnt know Witter was WBC world champion 12yrs ago :OhYes:  (sarcasm intended) you've taught me something. Witter was british/commonwealth/european & world champion so he has some credentials, but please dont get carried away with hes world class because hes far from it, this is the same Junior Witter who out of his first 8 pro fights drew 2 of them on home shows against journeymen, then was hand picked even easier opponents until he met Zab Judah for the IBF belt and got schooled, they then hand fed him more opponents until he met Demarcus Corley for the title, only 12fights ago bearing in mind hes had 48 fights, he then defended it twice, once to not world class opposition and vivian harris who was on the slide, then he met Bradley, and we know what happend there, they have then fed him even more bums and he still lost, (with exception to Alexander) so this is the world class Witter your on about, and also he fought for the world title 6 yrs ago m8, not 12. Also let's not think for one minute Frankie was lucky against Curtis Woodhouse, the scorecards where close but that's about it, but has we know the judges are fuking blind most the time, you watch the fight back and you will see Frankie won by a clear 4-5 rounds, all respect to Curtis though who is a warrior and a gentleman, he fought out of his skin that night plus mixed with lots of personal problems and maybe a little bit of overlooking and complacency made the fight closer than it should of been, No one is saying Witter can't punch but has Ali used to say "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee, the man can't hit what his eyes can't see" I look forward to seeing your posts after the fight :TU: remember I said I doubt we'll hear the bell for round 10

I am friends with woodhouse now but no way was that fight a split I thought I won won clear enough but yh bad performance, an I am glad u see it that way but I ent got no chin problems an he can punch an his a good fighter but his not the fighter he was, an didn't he win the lynes fight by a point one card an by 2 on the other so he never clearly won that night. I ent making predictions but I am very confident about winning the title an I will be there don't worry bout that!

I didn't claim that Witter was world champ 12 years ago. You claimed that Gavin at 15 was beating boxers who were already above world title level. Was it Floyd?

You also claim Witter had it easy fighting on home shows. Witter's pro debut was a 6 x 3s as an away fighter against the Midlands area champ. Witter was beating him up so his fans tried invading the ring to stop the fight. The inexperienced ref panicked, didn't count 2 knockdowns and gave it a draw. I was told the ref had his licence removed for this (some of the journos on here might confirm or correct this).
For his easy 10th fight he was in the away corner on a bunny show against Jan Bergman who had won 35 and only lost to Kosta Tszyu for the IBF world title. Witter beat him up. His reward for this was another away corner on a bunny show against their man Mark Winters who Witter beat up.
Zab Judah was supposed to be the next big thing when Witter took the fight at 11 days notice. Do you think that Hatton would have took that fight?
Witter won the British title at a leisure centre on a show that wasn't televised.
It's hardly the easy route that you are claiming whilst forwarding the claims of a boxer who has only fought on home shows, averaging about 4 a year since his no-show in Beijing and turned down a fight with lightweight veteran Jason Cook because he was too dangerous.

nice post.

I spoke to Dominic about witter couple weeks ago and he told me Witters story of being the away fighter, very interesting indeed, I did not know he had it so hard, amazing how he got to the top that way, he was also told that he father was dying before the Bradley fight, his head was in bits for that fight, yet it was still a close fight, I watched that fight and at the time thought Witter had won, he can count himself unlucky to lose a close fight, being the champ, in his own country and on his own promoters show, look what Bradley has achieved since, unfortunately since then Witters career has nosedived, until he won the British title against another "past his best: fighter, so maybe not as big an achievement as it seems, this time he will be up against a younger unbeaten fighter in Gavin, both are above there natural weight, both are hard to hit, though Gavin will be fresher, faster and the more skilled of the two and he might be more durable and have better stamina at this point in their careers, Witter will have more power and that is the last thing you lose, so he will be dangerous when they are both throwing, Gavin is the better body puncher for me and Witter don't like body shots, so there lies the secret to the outcome where I would expect Gavin to wear down Witter with the body shots, by either late stoppage, with Witter running out of steam or points with Witter hanging in to the end and the title changing hands, Very interesting fight though, who knows what Gavin or Witter will turn up, hopefully the best of both.

No offence to anyone. but where has the theory come from that Witter doesn't like it to the body?
Can't remember seeing him ever troubled by a body shot.

I did not mean, being stopped by a single body shot Pugilist, but he does start to get tired sometimes from plenty of body shots , worn down, as when fought in Canada, it sapped his energy, mainly as he has got older, not insinuating he can't take a shot, not at all.

Come on Dean first fight against an 8.1 kid is hardly a journyman and you should know being a small heath lad how tricky and hard hitting mark ramsey could be on his night just ask ricky hatton.Credit where credit is due Witter didnt have it easy Andreas Panayi and Bergman would have both been favoured to beat him when he beat them and Birminghams Malcolm Melvin was a clever veteran who gave no one an easy fight when he ran into witter.Harsh to say he was hand fed opponents.

Ok Jon, maybe a bit harsh to say hand fed mate but his first fight 8-1 had fought no one other than a novice Lee Murtagh anyway so it was'nt like a top amatuer or prospect with that record he fought, and if we asked Ricky Hatton about Ramsey he would say i remember flooring him a few times, dominating and winning every round both fights, if we ask Witter he will say i DREW lol, thats the difference so not a very good comparison to make mate, plus no one has said Witter cant punch or has not got credentials, but Pugilist is obviously in the Witter camp or someone associated and is trying to rubbish Frankie, keep saying will he turn up, lets hope he turns up (having a dig at his mental stability or has if he would bottle the fight) and by claiming what has he done ? well i will give ya a quick run done because i have not got time to go through it all (JUNIOR OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL CHAMPION, EUROPEAN CHAMPION, JUNIOR ABA CHAMPION, 2X SENIOR ABA CHAMPION, COMMONWEALTH GAMES GOLD MEDALIST, BRITAINS ONLY EVER AMATUER WORLD CHAMPION etc etc) (and has a pro 11 out of his 13 opponents so far have had winning records), or he is on the decline before his career has even started so im just pointing a few things out, yes Ramsey was a great fighter has a amatuer, tricky has a pro, Melvin tough too along with Bergman (you would expect him to beat them all anyway) but no other names or winning records stand out before title fights thats fact, 4 fights after Bergman he fought a fighter who had won 2 fights lost 23 then the next fight after that a lad who had 1 fight and lost it  Witter is good but is not some amazing fighter even in his prime that the lads on here try to make out, and correct me if im wrong Jon, if you've got a fighter who's highly rated and on his way to the top whether it be a home show or away show they should not be struggling with journeymen or fighters of a lower skill calibre. the bottom line is if im proven wrong on fight night i'll gladly say so and admit it has i have done before. And Pugilist we will see if Witter can or can not take body shots on fight night, and if he cant then we know he was only ever trying to piss in the wind and want a big pay day wanting the Hatton fight :TU:

Fair comment, Witter is talented and can be a hard nights work for anybody, hopefully it lives upto expectations and his style of jumping in wildly doesnt ruin the action and make it a terrible stumbling or holding match (example i.e Prizefighter Vs El Maachi)

Hard night work is right, for the viewer as well...Frankie will set a pace an old Witter can't deal with and he will revert to spoiling as per usual = a stinker.

Reading the above posts, as an amateur, Gavin has the better resume, but as a pro Witter is miles ahead in terms achievements. I think Gavin will do well to match Witters cv in the pro ranks.

I haven't been involved in a camp since I was a cub scout.

When Ramsey fought Hatton in Doncaster he was 2 days away from a nose operation, hadn't trained for 2 months and took the fight that day. Stood Hatton on the head for the first 2 rounds - even ricky's own ref had to give him a share of them - before he ran out of steam.

Bergman had won 35 and only lost to Tsyzu for a world title. Witter was given the away corner at short notice and was expected to win?

You claim that Gavin was beating up fighters above world title level when he was 15 years old. Was it Floyd? After seeing him fight Mutley and Woodhouse what do you put his decline down to? His lifestyle?

You were the one who has mentioned Gavin's mental stability. Are you concerned?

Ricky boxed both Mark (Razor) Ramsey (x2) and Paul Denton who are brothers, both excellent boxers and both senior ABA champions. The bout in Doncaster v Mark was a tricky one for Ricky; who was cut and outboxed for much of the fight. Mark Ramsey was a textbook boxer, very good fighter.

I'm going for a corner retirement win for Frankie, I think this fight could be a stinker, but hope its not. Witter can't fight for full rounds anymore and i can see him spoiling more and more the longer the fight goes.

i suppose a draw might be a good bet. witter never really fought 3 mins a round even when peak. if witter is fit and sharp enough to subdue gavin , italian style, then it may be very hard to score. what price is the draw?

Yh we all grew up in the same area & gym, Frankie Gavin, the Ramsey brothers, Shaun Coogan, Mathew Macklin, Wayne Elcock, mickey Harkin, Darren Sweeney, Christian Brady, plus many more top top lads. Has Jon has said, most of my points are correct and I don't like to rubbish any fighters has I've got the upmost respect for anyone who steps in the ring, good or bad has Jon can vouch for, but what I don't like is the majority of the posters who are always looking to slate the same handful of fighters when they would probably be the first to ask for a photo if they got the chance to meet them. It pisses me off especially when it's someone who is like family to me. And yes I'm a honest guy, if Frankie is beaten by Witter then there won't be no excuses from me, I'll be first to congratulate him. And Pugilist why would I be concerned about if he will turn up or his mental stability when it's you that has constantly raised that issue ? End of conversation from me on this topic, I hope it's a good fight, both lads come out of it safe and may the best man win on the night, whoever that maybe.
