His sister Diane confirmed it a short while ago.

"He has passed – he’s gone home. He was in no pain, and we sang to him, as well as did the doctors present. He had loved ones around him.He gave it his all,” she said. “But he’s been called away now."

"He loved to live and he loved to give. He was a down-to-earth guy when you were with him. As a trainer, he was a brilliant strategist. If you ever wanted to win a fight, you just listened to his advice."

Nuff said R.I.P :(

Very, very sad. I actually got to meet him once and couldn't get over it. It was in Atlantic City in 1989. Me and a mate went to watch Dennis Andries (by then a Kronk fighter) defend his title against (Aussie) Jeff Harding. Andries was VERY 'agricultural' but very tough and Steward had seen something impressive in his spirit after he'd been knocked down about 5/6 times by Tommy Hearns. Anyway, we got the bus from NY, had a pint in an 'Irish' hotel (where we stayed), had an hour in a casino, then went to the fight (which was, oddly, in the afternoon). As we're sitting in our seat, two blokes in Kronk trackies approached us, handing out literature about the gym. One of them was Emanuel Steward. We were gobsmacked. He seemed pleased we were there to support Andries and said if we ever wanted to visit the Kronk etc. After the fight (which Andries lost by a stoppage in the last round) we saw him again in a hotel. He said it would be good for us to have a word with Andries as he was feeling 'very low'. I remember we said hard luck to Andries and though he was very thankful and polite, I don't think I have ever seen a more disappointed person in my entire life. He was gutted and felt the ref had stepped in early. Me and my mate were awestruck meeting Steward, but you could tell he wasn't in the least bit awestruck with himself. R.I.P Emanuel Steward. One of the greats without a doubt.

Always liked Steward. One of life's good guys. RIP Manny. Re-united with the sensational Bernard Mays, the best Kronk fighter of them all.

Had the pleasure of meeting him in dublin with terry dooley. Terry took a photo of manny and me than loafed over, as he does. i was well into conversation and holding my own with steward when dooley arrived and absolutley owned me with his knowledge and questions regarding past fighters, fights and opinions. I stepped back and watched as steward enthusiastically answrred terry and was visibly surprised with the lanky stoners knowledge, but also enthused to both listen to his opinion and answer with his own. Needless to say i retreated to the bar.

People get called a legend too easily, Manny Steward could never fall in that category. R.I.P LEGEND.

He certainly knew his onions, both as a trainer and a businessman.

A nice tribute from Lennox Lewis : 'I'm completly devastated by the passing of my long term friend, mentor and trainer Manny Steward. Manny has helped me through some of the biggest fights in my career and I only regret that I couldn't help him through his biggest fight'.
