Yes they are far too well matched for it to happen ! Unfortunately it's the fight fans that miss out yet again.

3rd in British rankings v number 4 , both unbeaten in 13 , aged 21 and 22 ...

Galahad has they higher profile with tv exposure and wanted to fight for the English against Walsh ( rated 5 ) but pulls out late v dickens ?.

I was really looking forward to this clash. One clearly wants the fight and one doesn't.

Dickens and Gavin McDonnell has now been ordered by the board.

As has Paul Smith/Tony Dodson following Kenny Anderson vacating.

Yes...but Barry was so passionate about wanting to fight for the English title when one of the Walsh brothers had it 8)
:TU:

Lets wait and see what Galahad does next.

His best wins are against a Wale who came up in weight and currently 9th in Britain at Bantam, and Jason Booth after Quigg destroyed him.

If he is as good as he and his promoter think he is he should be stepping up considerably next time out.

I wish big Mick would let his boxers fight their mandates,1st Fury now Galahad and i wouldnt be suprised if that was the reason Degale relinquished the European because he knew Groves was mandatory challenger AND i bet he`ll wait for Saunders to vacate his British and Commonwealth titles before securing Eubank jr a crack at them :shame:

Boxing shoot itself in the foot all the time. Give it 18 months what channels will showing the sport! If all we going to see is fighters doging each other.

Two words risk / reward.
High in WBC rankings and EBU mandatory. Why would Galahad fight Dickens ? What does Dickens bring to the table ?

You are spot on as in terms of rankings it made no sense for Galahad to fight Jazza.

But he had nothing to gain in rankings fighting Ryan Walsh for the same title. Yet he was really keen to fight him.

And quick to critisize when Ryan pulled out

And when a young prospect, rated very highly by those who have seen him fight, is nominated as his opponent he pulls out himself.

Looks to me like Henessey wasn't fully confident in his fighters chances at purse bids and not for the first time.

This that said I wouldn't want to see Groves / DeGale II yet. Next time should be for a World title.

Galahad has received good purses boxing on C5 and I'd guess his opponent's purse has not been so high. For a vacant title the money would be split 50-50, so i doubt the budget would be there to pay Dickens over 10 times his previous highest purse.

Isn't Quigg the EBU mandatory?

You're probably right mate. I think Quigg is 1 Barry 2.
Anyway you get the gist of what I was meaning.
At least Walsh had / has a decent EBU ranking.
Dickens ?

Walsh was ranked below Galahad in the EBU ratings anyway, so that's got nowt to do with it.

I understand why he didn't want to fight Dickens but I doubt if he was really bothered about Walsh, either.

We understand that maybe this fight was not right for him at this time , what we do not understand is why wait until a day before bids to pull out leaving us no time to sort a replacement fight.

Jazza's is fighting Jon Fernandez at the Echo Arena on the 30th March for the English title.
