I know they did one in the early 90s but if they did a proper one showing about when he became the youngest ever heavyweight champion to when he went to jail and his comeback and the Holyfield ear stuff and his Familly Bereavement etc etc etc , i would watch it for certain .

It would almost certainly be the most successful financially but it would be a locked-on anti-climax bore for those who have been following his life/career since he was a teenager. Other than a few minutes of some feral youth stealing old ladies' handbags, a few dozen ropey sex scenes, and some fabricated prison drama, what could they show that they haven't shown a million times for real already?

Chuck Gardner would interesting. His fitness and nutrional work pre Bruno fight would make excellent viewing. I am pretty sure he won a lard eating contest at some point as well.

True but would you spend a tenner at the cinema to see a guy winning fights and training in quiet Newbridge? Could probably put together a YouTube compilation as Joe was never a headline stealer. Nothing out of the ordinary about his life unless you want to make a film about 'his great battle to become a ballroom dancing legend!'

Scott Dixon is currently having a book written about his life, that should def make interesting reading

I'm halfway through 'Unforgivable Blackness', a book about Jack Johnson, great book about a huge, larger than life character. I believe a pretty bad tv movie has already been of this but i'm not sure a film could do it justice. Get scorsese to do a mini series on it.

There's a fantastic 4 hour documentary on him (based, I think, on the book) by Ken Burns

Born of drifter parents, leaves home as a teenager and learns to fight in bars and mining camps across the US, rides the rails around the country spending time as a hobo, marries a hooker, gets discovered by manager Doc Kearns, becomes a young hungry contender and rips away the world championship in one of the bloodiest fights ever, goes on trial for allegedly dodging the draft with his ex-wife testifying against him, becomes the biggest sportsman in the world and stars in a load of 20s Hollywood movies, becomes lazy, goes into decline, loses to Tunney and suddenly finds the public affection he never had as a champion, winds up with a restaurant on Broadway and lives to a happy old age a well-loved former champion.

He had an incredible life and it would make a great story to tell onscreen.

Scottish legend Benny Lynch.

At the ago of 23 Lynch became the undisputed world flyweight boxing champion. Just 2 years later his career came to an end due to alcoholism. In his 7 year professional career Lynch fought 102 times. In 1946, aged just 33, Lynch died of malnutrition. The man died broke and alone.

Yeah Dempsey would be a cracker too

Emile Griffiths story also is made for a movie. He won 2 world titles, was involved in a ring death that was live on national tv and made huge news at the time which haunted him throughout his life. Hiding his homosexuality throughout his career even getting married while he was a pro. Then in retirement working as a correctional officer in a prison and beaten to near death on a New York street.
