I'm not surethat Broner was taking shots from Gavin for the fans Gomez he was just being pretty slack defensively thinking he could just rumble flat footed into range and tee off . He reckoned he knew nowt about Rees and was probably surprised at how Gavin got straight into him. That arrogance could come back to haunt him one day he talks about being Floyds protege but he should take a good look in Pbf's defensive rule book which has carried him a long way.You wouldn't catch Floyd taking shots for the sake of it.

You make a valid point. Rees had more than his fair share of success last night.

But I do recall Floyd getting rocked more than once on his way up. Demarcus Corley was one i recall. It's just lately Mayweather has picked on smaller, or older opponents lately, making himself look mustard.

I do defo think that Broner strolled it a bit and didn't bring his A game.

Yeah of course Floyd's had his trials by fire and honed his skill over a longer time scale.. maybe he did stroll it to the point he couldn't be arsed defending. Oh well Gavin gave him a taste of leather for a couple of rounds.

He didn't make hard work of him. He beat Murray easily, Murray was just tough enough to last as long as he did, and Mitchell certainly didn't completely outclass Murray either. That was also back down at LW where Rios was having lots of trouble with his weight.

Mitchell beat him quicker and outboxed him, rios took 11 rounds and also spent the night with murray sat ontop of him. Murray doesnt have alot of power someone like Broner would have wiped him out and Burns would have out manoeuvred him. Imo. Rees is levels above murray i think he would ask a few questions of rios.

Was at the fight last night and I think it confirmed to everyone who watched why team burns decided to pass. Cannot stand Broner persoanlly but as a fighter hes diffrent level.

On a side note spoke to max kellerman and hearn after the fight. Kellerman was very complementally of rees, says he fought the perfect fight and locket devised the best possible game plan for him but he was in with the best fighter in the division. He said the fight rees put up will look better in a couple of years as he sees broner steam rolling through everyone for the next couple of years with much more ease than rees put up.

Hearn joking said he cant stand atlantic city, hes 0-3 at this venue (Barker, Froch and Rees all losing)

After this there is just no way I can ever see Burns vs Broner.

Still mayweathers best performance for me.

Going into the fight both were unbeaten and mayweather did a sublime job on him. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but at the time i just sat and thought wow. Regardless of what we later learnt about diego, some of the shots for the knockdowns were amazing.

Not saying that when floyd hangs them up id say that was his best win, just time 4 time (like p4p) that was for me his best Performance. Loved it. Loved the N'dou performance too, what a finish, just sticks out in my mind.

I'm glad Rees was spared humiliation. He used pretty good tactics in there for as long as his fitness would allow at that level.

I'd still like to see Burns have a go at Broner, he'd definitely score with some eye catching shots and make a fight of it at times, maybe even go the distance.

Other than that I'd most like to see Broner v Garcia and Mathysse v Rios.

Paul McCloskey is a very very poor mans adrian broner. I saw similarities in the style.

Yes - it was one of those where Rees could have gone on but in doing so would only have shipped more punishment. That's why the chief second can pull his man out against the wishes of the fighter himself. Rees would have taken as much as humanly possible and that's no good - it wasn't as if he was going to turn it around. Good call from Lockett, a chap I have an increasing regard for - clever lad, too.

he is very talented but when he moves up will find himself taking hard shots. a mover with power will find him wishing he could defend like floyd.

Agree with that, he took an awful lot of shots from Rees. Gutsy as Rees is and he does have some clever moves - he just aint got concussive power, you can't help but think that someone with greater power could really cause Broner some issues. Broner looks a good 'on top' fighter, but unless he tightens that defence then he'll ultimately limit his success level.

Rees did well. But Broner was so much bigger and more powerful he just walked through Rees and looked to unload. That won’t be enough when he fights punchers of his own size – but then maybe he’ll never have to if he’s the new superstar.
