Good. Parris did a brilliant job in the Williams-Sprott fight. He attracted plenty of criticism (including from myself) in the build-up to that fight for his over-eagerness in stopping fights at times. But come the event, handled it, as I say, brilliantly.

Yeah good ref, I would have thought this been the case Mickey will probably do the Gomez fight.

Glad someone brought this topic up. Been saying for a while that it's an ABSOLUTE shambles that Vann has been in charge of Hatton fights for so long. Vann is decent enough but in my view it just looks so bad on Hatton and so amateurish. Have just been listening to Vann getting interviewed on the local news in Leeds. This woman (clearly struggling) asks at the death whether Ricky Hatton will win on Saturday. Incredibly, Vann then proceeds to lean back in his chair, winks and says he "fully expects him too". The woman then mentions someting about betting and farcically Vann then seems to remember who he is (or at least should be) by saying he is "not a betting man". With Ricky staying in Manchester so much (I am convinced he could fill decent sized venues elsewhere) and Vann being such a permament fixture at fights, it's becoming more Circus act than boxing show.

I remember some quaters of the press and some fans a few years complaining that Richard Steele had become Mike Tysons 'personnel' ref.

I bet Steele officiated Tyson fights less than Vann has Hatton. Just a thought.

Yes you're probably right. Steele blew it when he stopped the first Ruddock fight early, in Mike's favour - that ( along with Chavez/Taylor ) sealed his fate and the end of his career was in sight.
He was a good referee though. Think he manages fighters now.
