Whoever thinks Haye is Middle Class clearly has no idea of the British Class system. At all. He is Working Class. End of.

He's a multi-millionaire I'd say he is middle class now, whether he was born middle class or not.

This proves my point! You cant change your class by becoming wealthy! You can get skint upper class who will always look down on wealthy middle class! Go study it, pal.

You can move up the class system.

No you can't. Why don't you go and study the subject for 5 minutes, here is a clue, you can't
change class by coming into money but your children can (working and middle class kids that
is.)

So your disagreeing with an undoubted fact? Its like disagreeing that 4+4=8! Your showing a serious lack of knowledge on this one, mate.

Well, explain your theory with real life examples - just remember you would fail 'sociology 101'
on any university course. Name me one person who became working class when
they lost their fortune being born upper class? It has never ever happened, and guess who
didn't become upper class when he won a fortune.

What consigns you to a class is what your parents did and where you went to school which
can't be changed as you go into adulthood, so no adult change change classes by winning
or earning a fortune.

I've already mentioned David Haye. Various wealthy celebrities, I don't need to name them.

I never claimed it did. Money isn't the only factor in class, but it is an important one.

£9 million is enough for a working class person to become middle class, but not upper class.

Do you have a link to back up your argument? I have so far been unable to find anything that backs up your opinion.

Horse, are you one of those people that lives apart from society?

Good on you if you are, btw.

The Class system inst just about money, its much deeper. There is however 3 fail proof ways of finding out what class a person is

Working Class - Shits in a hole in the garden.

Middle Class - Owns a wooden salad bowl.

Upper Class - Always smells of horse.

The Dark Destroyer wrote:9 Million makes you middle class?
I'd say so.
The Dark Destroyer wrote:What middle class person have you ever met with 9 million?
I don't normally know how much money a person has, so I can't answer that.
The Dark Destroyer wrote:How have you come to that number?
£9 million is roughly the amount of money Michael Carroll won on the lottery. I mentioned it because of the link to a story about him that Fat Git posted.

There is a bit more to it than that Horse, say you won 10 million pounds - or even earned 10
million pounds, your social circle will stay the same, what is not going to happen is that you
are going to be invited by the local dignitaries for wine tasting. Your hobbies and interests
will change little, you will still have little in common with the upper classes or even the middle
class. Your parents will still be working class as will your wider family.

If you have children and send them to Eton - then they will acquire a class upgrade. The people
they know and the shit they will learn will be different to what you know and have learned (very little on present evidence).

Those links don't state that a working class person cannot become middle class. They are about the lack of social mobility in Britain.

It isn't necessarily easy for a working class person to become middle class, but it is doable.

Becoming lower middle class isn't a massively difficult status leap for a working class person to achieve.

There are millions of middle class people in Britain and they don't all go to wine tasting clubs or send their kids to private schools.

There is no such thing as 'lower middle class' it's a strand of working class - that is all it is.

MachoMan09 keeps talking about 'divide and rule' and this is one of those cases where it is applicable.
The interests and the fears of the working classes and the 'lower middle class' are exactly the same
- especially in todays economic climate. But there is an artificial split so the politicians and the
media can declare war on both of these 'classes' when in fact, their interests are massively
shared.

There is very little difference between a teacher, a plumber, an electrician, a policeman and
a nurse. One might have gone to university and one might have learned a trade but their
earning capacity, outlook, quality of life and opportunities are very similar.

Those links say exactly that. It isn't 'easy' for a working class person to become true 'middle class' people who I would consider 'middle class' are the children of doctors, lawyers, MP's, high ranking government officials and the like - live in big houses, their kids own a horse, they go skiing in winter and to the Carribean in the summer. Who aren't 'true' middle class is someone who owns their home.
