Regulations 7.1 to 7.3 and regulations 9.1,9.7 and 9.13 along with board forms 36,36a and 35 should explain everything mate

It would not have been an easy payday. He would undoubtedly have made Ricky look bad and possibly put thousands of casuals who followed Rick off the sport! Watching Witter box Gavin just confirmed to me Hatton had made the right decision. Ricky was an all action, exciting fighter, Junior was the complete opposite.
I'm Frankies biggest fan, but he'd tell you himself that he fought a different Witter to the one who called Ricky out. I'm in the Witter camp in this age old debate. He'd have frustrated the life out of Hatton.

He'd have frustrated Hatton, it would have been a shit fight to watch, Hatton probably would have sneaked it on workrate unless Witter could have found a big punch as he was far too lazy in fights to get a decision against a busy fighter like Hatton, even if he would frustrate him. That's my view anyhow.

^This.

Horrible fight, which Witter would have lost every day of the week.

It would have been a cracking fight, after the Zab bout Junior went to the drawing board and was putting good fighters away in style. Ricky was tearing through the division; they had a lot to fight for. Both were certain of their chances and both would have trained very very hard. It would have been a belter.

Junior boxed Zab in June 2000; after that bout he knocked his next 15 out. In June 2000 Ricky boxed Gilbert Quiros. The very good knockout/stoppage run of Witter called for a bout with Hatton; it would have been a massive British bout. Ricky weren't risked - he was put in with some very cagey and boring boxers instead of Witter, but they were on the slide.

The reason Ricky "Man of the People" has given for not facing him was that when they met at the BBC Sports Personality event, Witter shook his hand and looked him in the eye and said "One day."

It's a good job that Mayweather didn't trash-talk him!

i can't be bothered to read all the posts but why does hatton need tv to show fights when he has his own tv channel and with his money he could just sort out top draw shows at a massive venue and the tv will come running to him ? i'm sure with all his millions he could put something back into the sport that made him a star ? the tight f^*k^r

And the reason Bill Clinton gave for getting a nosh in the Oval Office was that he was contemplating a war. The reality? He wanted a blow job.

So what's your point? Actually, you don't have one, please continue.
Following your long-winded excuse for the fight not happening, I was just giving the excuse from Ricky "Man of the People" - and who can doubt his word?

"It's written in my contract."

\They both boxed under the same promoter and that promoter kept them apart and then dumped Witter; it was economics for Mr Warren but there's no denying that Witter was a real threat.

Worked with who ? Wazza or Ricky ?
Wazza wanted this, Hatton allegedly wanted it in his contract then when it was game on .............

Presumably he's referring to the clash of styles.

While the Mayweather fight was a "big" fight, it wasn't a particularly exciting contest or action packed, despite the ending.

When you have an offensively minded fighter, albeit one very good at what he does yet limited and you have a defensively minded fighter, it's often a poor spectacle to watch. No matter how good the defensive fighter is, being tied up close or dodging punches (half the point of boxing) isn't particularly scintillating to watch at times. Likewise if the aggression is being nullified, it's a touch boring to watch someone banging their gloves together, trudging forward telegraphing punches and either falling into their punches, being countered or being tied up.

So while the average fan would say that Hatton was "making" the fight, Witter's tactics and skills would probably serve to provide the antithesis to that. Of course, you could argue that he could counter Hatton or make offence from defence but I think it more likely it wouldn't be a great fight to watch.

It was nailed on to be a poor fight. There was a small window of opportunity, it closed and Hatton made his intentions clear, he wanted to fight Mayweather and headed towards that fight. There were other aspects, selling it to the networks etc. and there were a number of reasons why it didn't happen. Billy Graham said he wouldn't relish the fight for a number of reasons, but that he would have taken Hatton into it confident of victory. But, again, there was a need to build Hatton's profile to help him head to fights on the world level, a domestic skirmish with someone who brought loads of negatives, more so than the names you're about to throw up, to the table.

The general charge leveled, that Hatton swerved this one, is ludicrous.

Hatton was the height of Witter's ambition, Tszyu, and later Mayweather, was the height of Hatton's, which is why they had wildly contrasting careers.[/quote]

The thing is mouse that had Witter got hold of Hatton then Ricky wouldn't have had the career that he had and Junior didn't have a bad run of it all things considered; he beat some good people.

One of the things to consider was that Ricky had an awful lot of paying support and was undefeated; the TV companies needed that. Witter was at least the equal to Ray Oliveira and so viable opposition up until the Kostya bout was made - then after that they were on altogether different trajectories.

Ray Oliveira was a better TV fight, at that time, than Witter, all things considered.
He'd lost 9 times and been a pro 14 years.

Small window?

Hatton boxed Witter's stablemate, Thaxton, in 2000. Witter called him out on TV after this fight

Hatton boxed 16 times more before he faced Tsyzu. Not one of the 16 then went on to be a world champion like Witter did. Look at the names on the list. Tony Pep, Jason Rowland, Jon Bailey, Freddie Pendleton (who'd already lost 25 times), Stephen Smith.

After beating Tsyzu the "Man of the People" said Witter had to win a world title first which he did a year later. Was the small window then re=opened before Ricky shut it again because Witter said "One day" to him?

I think he did, and know people who worked with him who were up for it, not relishing it, purely because it would have stank to high heaven, but would have taken it all the same. It only made sense to a handful of people, but they couldn’t be arsed going to Junior’s fights anyway so it was no great loss.
BoxingChat has confirmed on here that the fight was offered to Hatton more than once but they wouldn't take it.

Selling it to the networks can not be used as an excuse when Hatton boxed Bailey, Pendleton, Smith etc.

Didn't Witter even offer to box him for free at one point?

What has Junior Witter got to do with Quigg being inactive..
Christ the sad day in many many years time when Hatton pops his clogs, they'll be commemorating his excellent career and a Yorkshireman's voice will pipe up ' he ducked Junior Witter though!'
