Christ almighty, can it get any worse than this?

At the start of round two, I said to the missus, "He has to get some more commercials in for the TV channel. He'll pitty-patty for another 5-6 rounds, then the ref will call a stoppage."

That was one of the most choreographed fights I've ever seen.

Sloppy stuff. I missed the first minute. A rare body shot from Wlad. Pianeta down hard from a combo.

AND ITS OVER.
Thanks for the updates, good sir.

I look forward to catching this one soon.
LOL, he is completely inept. I wouldn't bother. It didn't even take jabs to subdue him, just measuring with the left.
I'll check it anyway, it only went 6 rounds, it's not like it was a 12 round crapfest like Wlad-Haye.
I'd rather watch Wlad/Haye again.

He was pretty straight forward before the fight, gave Wlad props and said he wasn't good enough to beat him. That's better than most.

Even greater LOL at the German commentator trying to talk up a sh1t fight as if it were in any way competitive. The RTL commentator actually made me laugh out loud with some of the things he said.

Times like these, I actually feel sorry for Germans for being such gullible mugs.

Maybe this event can eclipse itself with a revelation of a B sample.

Watching a coat of white paint drying on a kitchen chair would eclipse this fight for excitement.

Where in the rules does it say that's illegal?

It's not illegal to do a lot of things (such as clowning, gaoding etc.), but that doesn't mean a good ref does not have the jurisdiction to warn a fighter for doing it. Sometimes it's right for a ref to take action just to make a fight more pleasing to watch - and Wlad holding his fist under the nose of a hopelessly outclassed opponent is not pleasing to watch.

I think the rules prohibit measuring someone with an open hand.
I haven't seen the fight, so I don't know precisely what he was referring to, but if Wlad had a fist out there, I don't see how that violates any rule.

I have a problem with refs who try to intervene to make fights more exciting. If a guy isn't fighting at all and is losing the fight, fine, stop the fight. But if a guy's just a cautious fighter who wants to jab his opponent again and again or run away when he's got a big lead, I don't think that's the ref's job to interfere with him. Refs should warn fighters for violations of rules. That's why we have rules. If a fighter continues to violate the rules, take a point.
When refs start penalizing fighters for things not in the rules, there are problems because a fighter can't know what is allowed and what isn't beforehand.

No, you're trying to project the mindset of a lawyer onto a referee. A referee can and should make sure that the fight is not spoiled, because (and this is the mindset of a fan - you know, the people who actually pay the salaries of the fighters and the refs) wehn you have 20,000 people in a venue, they deserve to be given a competitive, sportsmanlike bout in which each opponent makes and effort.

So Wlad holding his arm out half the fight isn't in you rules book? Then fvck your rulebook. :OhYes:

Some fights aren't competitive.
Holding out a jab (not an open hand to measure someone) isn't against any rule I know of.
And at least in the U.S., refs work for commissions and are thus working for the government of the particular state, so there'd be legal issues with penalizing a fighter for something not prohibited by rules. Yeah, that law thing. And some fights are just boring. If fans don't like it, tough.

I remember watching a Lennox Lewis highlights vid on youtube and he was doing that exactly that against Frank Bruno and got warned by Mickey Vann ie the ref for it.

Is it actually possible to have a truely open hand wearing boxing gloves?

That's right, SS - and I'm sure if someone wanted to, they could find a technicality that forbids it. But the point is, it doesn't need to be illegal to be a stupid, spoiling tactic that is unworthy of a champion boxer. All the idiot pedants on this board seem to lack the common sense to see that.

I don't know how little you know about this sport, but it did not slip the attention of some of us that this fighter was never going to be competitive when it was announced, it was not competitive on the night, and no amount of discussion afterwards is going to make it seem like it was competitive.

But if I wanted to see the actual sport part reduced to 20% of the result, and squabbling over the rulebook like a bunch of bureaucrats taking up 80%, I could switch over to F1.
