Matthysse looks very very strong at this weight. Power-wise you can't see anyone in the division keeping up with him. I don't understand why the IBF Light-Welterweight Championship wasn't on the line? But it looks as if it will Matthysse v Garcia. If Garcia was smart he wouldn't take the risk and go for someone like Peterson in unifaction bout.

Where is it that Matthysse gets his power, he doesn't look like a puncher, and he isn't the quickest. I would say there's boxers that put more leverage into their punches , but don't have nearly half as much power as he does.

The punch for the second knockdown had plenty of leverage in it but I know what you mean. Seems naturally very heavy handed

He seems to start his hook wide and shorten/tighten the angle; he's also throwing straight through the other side - that's why when he misses he spins about.

Fighting Peterson would make Garcia look like a complete pussy, not a smart move.

Some fighters, like me, are naturally hard hitters. Matthyse is one of these. The late Valero was an unnaturally hard hitter. He has a snap from his waist and plants his feet properly when punching.

I am not bragging, but I reckon I am probably in the top 10 punchers pound for pound in the world. I have no stamina and poor vision, but if it were not for this, I genuinely feel that I could do some real damage on the scene.

Matthyse couldn`t shift Aleksander remember and Aleksander has been accussed of having no heart. Although I thought Aleksander was given a hometown decision against Matthyse, he did take some proper digs and toughed it out.

If that would have been me, Aleksander would have been drinking his dinner through a thin straw, if you catch my drift.

theres a million guys out there that can throw a strong punch, or destroy heavy bags etc , but unfortunately , in real boxing, your opponent not only hits back, but tries not to get hit. the true masters of heavy punching can land their heaviest punches on very elusive and difficult to hit world class boxers.
good as mathysse is ( and he seems to be getting better) he couldnt transfer the power he has onto alexanders and judahs chins. i think the important thing about mathysse is that for a big puncher, he also has a good chin....quite a rare quality to have both.

He dropped both of them though, fairly heavily, and the punch that dropped Judah didn't even land on his chin -It landed on his glove. Judah said he's the heaviest puncher at 140 and hits hard with both hands and also hits way harder than Garcia does.

Alexander got on his bike after the KD and pitty patted his way through the majority of the fight, he didn't win that fight by any stretch, he was booed.

The Judah fight was closer but it was still a draw or a point or so either way.

If not knocking out everyone was some sort of indicator of lack of power than Mike Tyson must have been a complete powder punch hitter as several guys went the full distance with him?

The Alexander fight was close IMO when he got put down he got up and recovered very well. It was more the body shots that knocked the stuffing out of him.

at the very least matthysse deserves to get a title shot. he's stopped soto, who vacated the WBC lightweight title. and he's just blown out peterson, the IBF holder at 140 in an over the weight fight.

Too right there are some great fights out there for Matthyse. In fact, I'd agree not to knock one out for a full week if someone could fix a Matthyse v Provodnikov mash up. That would be some kinda fight.

everytime i think garcia is gonna beat he proves me wrong so i will sit on the fence if/when garcia fights mattysse
