Hatton is "nothing" blasts Mayweather

Eric mate, whatever you think about Hatton, he is one of the best we have from these shores, in the same way sometimes you have a slghtly inflated view of some american fighters and a more detrimental view of the brit fighter, it can work in reverse also i.e. we may feel some american fighters are overated , and some brits underated. Especially when it is being rammed down our throats how great US fighters are in comparision to UK fighters. (and admittedly they are in many cases)

While trying to remain subjective and non nationalistic its hard to, when you have been to see the aforesaid boxers, and of course it is human nature to hold these people in slightly higher esteem. Everyone does it to some extent.

I totally agree team hatton need some big fights now but if he beats up Sharmba then you will just say he was shot and over the hill etc etc etc.
And find the next opponent to lord over him Gatti or whomever, its an easy thing to do.

Im not having a go but dont condemn us for supporting one the few true world class fighters we have at present its natural.

No, he started his career at 130, but his bout vs. Floyd was his 3rd straight at 135. In Hatton's case, Pedersen had neevr fought at 140 before. Neither had Rios. And J, I hear where you're coming from - we should support our own - but the problem is that if one takes it too far and ceases to think critically, guys like Warren will never feel pressured to match their fighters against top-ranked guys, and fighters like Hatton will never have the opportunity to prove they're truly world class, or the motivation to actually do what it takes to become so.

None of them wanted to fight him. Spaddy turned him down, Lazcano turned him down, he beat the best lightweight (Jose Castillo) twice lest we forget. There was no-one else to challenge Floyd there.

ok thanks SS. and yeah I know Eric its frustrating when you think someone is good enough to mix it in the top echelon but is constantly being matched below his level. Hope that changes SOON.

No, he started his career as a featherweight and had his first genuine lightweight fight against the awesome Yoni Vargas where he looked like crap. Then, because of his impressive KO record (albeit at feather/superfeather) he's brought in to face Mayweather because HBO (understandably at the time) didn't want Floyd vs Julio Diaz.

Regarding the rest of it, your apparent obsession with belittling Hattons career is of no interest to me. I'm well aware of how carefully he's been matched, I've been accused of Brit-bashing myself on more than one occasion because of the criticism I've thrown at Hatton/Calzaghe/Eastman/Harrison. I only responded to your suggestion that team Hatton would be afraid of Mayweather because of his reputation, even though he hasn't looked good at all against lightweights and that's hardly likely to change a further 6lbs up.

Mayweather Jr has bags of talent and skill, but will that be enouhj to dominate at 140lbs? I'm not convinced. He will be a force at this weight IMO but I don't think he will dominate.

Just tagging on to this thread. As far as I can see, The Black Mamba makes some very understandable points. And bennie's unceremonious overview of the Hitman's career explains some of them.

If Hatton had to pack it in for some reason tomorrow, we would never know how good he was because he hasn't yet fought anyone who fulfils the following criteria:

1. A true 140 pounder
2. Genuine world class
3. At (or near) his peak

That is a fact.

And how many 'world' title fights has he had? I'm NOT knocking him at all. He is only 25 and I THINK he could make it on the real world stage. But I don't KNOW because I've yet to see it.

Hopefully his next fight will be big and then he will stay in that company.
