That's Frank, by the way. Audley's delusions came later..

I'd say Audley's started around the same time. I think he thought Bruno was actually going to come back.
Add in Herbie Hide who threw a chair around because the fans would rather see him and Bruno and you've got some serious mind issues in the British heavyweight division at the time.

Franks suppsoed comeback was announced at Audley vs Ellis fight.... not to say Frank was 100% mind healthy, but it was 6 months before his mental breakdown.
A 41 year old Bruno vs Audley in 2003, Who wins that one?
Obviously Audley would have been more active.... though hadn't faced someone with Brunos power by that point

Big Frank would do ok, in todays division, in my opinion. Wlad has a frustrating style that could cause Frank problems. Vitali would have his hands full, for sure and as for the rest, I'd take Bruno over the rest, quite comfortably.
As for Fury

He gets blasted out as soon as Bruno hits him with a few rights or lefts, for that matter. Why people hype that guy so much, patriotism aside, is baffling. It really is.

It was probably in its early stages, they don't crack up overnight.

That was the fight I alluded to earlier, where afterwards Hide started throwing chairs around and a riot broke out. Audley had asked who he should fight next, and Hide got the hump because nobody wanted him.
If memory serves the Bruno rumours had been in the papers for a while leading up to that.

All this Bruno delusion is laughable.... Beat Wlad? Um right, despite that Wlad has beaten 25 or so world title challengers; all of whom would have probably win against Bruno. Who did Bruno beat? Erm an out of shape over the hill Coetzee over here in a holiday.... And a crackhead journeyman. Oh yes, and the legendary Chuck Gardner. He got a hiding from every half decent opponent he faced. This is revisionist history at its most risible

I'm a big Frank Bruno fan, but I think he would struggle to a win a belt. He was overly muscled, and fairly awkward and clumsy with his punching at 17 stone plus. Probably mid-16's of Tyson 1 was a more effective weight for him. He also for all his strength never scored a knockdown in 5 world title fights. His record between title fights shows he was heavily protected.

That Crackhead journeyman did well, knocking out an ATG, possessing possibly the best chin ever and still winning into his fifties.

I think it would be a classic case of 'rinse and repeat' for Big Frank in the second decade of the 2000's.
He loses most of his big, world title fights but wins a few meaningful bouts in a way that gives us all hope and keeps him relevant and very much in the mix. He'd find out guys like Helenius, Thompson and Charr and probably brutally and early...he was actually very good/ruthless at demolishing other contenders and clearing a path to a title shot.
But when it came to someone like Wlad he freezes and all the old Frank problems of failing to be bold and throwing his bombs when it matters come to the forefront again. He does not beat Wlad, Vitali and I am not sure he beats guys like Pulev either.
However, one of Frank's strengths was his durability/longevity and I can see him sticking around and coming back for more. And it is not inconceivable that given someone like Povetkin, Haye or Chris A for a third shot, he comes good.
As I said.....it is rinse and repeat and history can repeat itself.

A good win, no doubt. But it's like saying Trevor Berbick and Leon Spinks are legends because they beat Ali

Do you really believe that? If so I recommend you look at Ali around those two fights(especially Berbick) and then Lewis.

Bruno against some of the fringe contenders of the 2000's would have been fun. I think he would have beaten Danny Williams, Botha, Briggs, etc. Hide and Akinwande might have caused him some issues. Or even a more motivated McCall in a rematch. I think the emergence of the better euro heavies could have marginalised Bruno more. At the end of the day he was lucky to get a 4th bite of the cherry and win a world title. And practically speaking, he probably would have just fought the usual trash between title fights as that was his managements usual approach.

One of the more spurious comments I've read.
Does Wlad beat '25 world title challengers' in the era of Lewis, Tyson, Bruno, Bowe, Holyfield, McCall, Mercer et al?
No, he doesn't.
Your position is so untenable it actually hurts my brain to even think of beginning to debate with you.

I'm struggling to think of which of his challengers Frank wouldn't beat to be honest.
Frank was certainly no ATG but just look at the state of some of these tomato cans that have been in world title shots in the last few years, some them are gassed after throwing a couple of shots, they make Bruno look like Henry Armstrong.

Yep. I don't think Wladimir has beaten anyone ever that Bruno wouldn't squash.
Conversely, Wlad has been KOd three times and decked many more times by men Bruno would KO.

Wlad is nearly 38 years old now and having to rely more and more on his holding tactics, so a 20 something year old Bruno beating him or at least troubling the hell out of him isn't out of the question. Sure Frank had problems over coming adversity but it generally took a hard punching fighter who aggressively took the fight to his door step to do it. Wlad prefers to play it safe these days, so that point is moot. Kubrat pulev isn't that young either and with only 19 fights and difficulty putting away some of the guys he's fought, Frank would have a shot. Tony Thompson gets Ko'd easily and doesn't have the kind of power typically needed to break Frank down. After watching Tyson Fury get decked by Steve Cunningham, I think a big right hand from Bruno would have been devastating. Not to confident about Povetkin's chances against him either.. My guess is that Bruno pulverizes most of today's top 10 but ironically ends up choking against someone he's not supposed to.

Bruno problem was he was mentally weak. I was always amazed that he looked more scared fighting Tyson the second time around, he had already been in with him, was 20lbs heavier than before and stronger plus Tyson had been in jail and had been beaten so the air of invincibility had gone. I was expecting Bruno to put up a better display, being champ his confidence should've been sky high yet he completely bottled it.
I don't go along with the glass jaw claims people throw at Bruno, he had a good chin, as the first Tyson proved, he took some huge punches and didn't go down. He just didn't seem to know hoe to get himself out of trouble.
If about today I would expect him to flatten Fury. If Haye could keep him away from him I think Haye would've probably outpointed him. Bruno wouldn't beat them Klits unless he got lucky and managed to KO them.

So apart from Oliver McCall, an extremely tough but limited skill wise journeyman who got lucky with his eyes closed, who exactly did Bruno beat who is half decent and near their prime?

An utterly stupid and moronic thing to write. McCall and Manny Steward trained for months to take out Lewis with that shot. I'd love to see you tell Mike Tyson, or Lennox Lewis, or Larry Holmes, that McCall is a limited journeyman.
Fyi: Lewis also had his eyes closed when throwing
his right hand at McCall.
You're essentially asking '
so other than the reigning world champion who knocked out Lennox Lewis and is considered dangerous to this day, who did Bruno actually beat?'
Go away you trollish fool.

Ok, let's agree that McCall is a good fighter; so who else did Bruno beat? He was a total media creation
