World titles mean fvck all. The pursuit of meaningless alphabet titles by British boxers has robbed us of some great domestic fights down the years. Listening to Barker and Mack on comms at the weekend reminded me of when there were 4 or 5 quality middleweights in Britain who should've fought each other but didn't. I think Sky did one of those chit chats with all of em round a table, can't remember the others - possibly Murray and Saunders ?

How many of those who have won a world title since this thread started can actually claim to have been the best in the world in their division or even among the top three ?

AJ probably. Frampton and DeGale possibly.

Although I'm not so sure about Eggsy. He is a good domestic level fighter and very entertaining to watch but he dosent seem to improve. He is still the same basic guy who loves to go at it - I admime that but think at world level someone is going to knock him out

Criminal of me to forget big Tyson. I'm a big fan of George but I'd have him behind DeGale and Jack if we still count him as a SMW and possibly Ramirez though I haven't seen much of him. I'm delighted that Flanagan has got himself a world title and I think he's a top class operator who'd deal comfortably with Crolla for example but at 135 Loma and Garcia definitely and Linares probably outclass him.

Agree with you about Taylor and possibly Selby if he becomes a little more orthodox once he moves up in class.

Ones for the future ? Maybe little Charlie Edwards can come again and total stab in the dark Zelfa Barrett.

Interesting thread revival, though the motives behind it were somewhat childish.

It's easy to forget how highly rated Frankie Gavin was a couple years back.

Looking at the current crop the only real standout is Josh Taylor, if he doesn't go on to be a genuine world class operator in the next few years I will be very surprised.

Ohara Davis looked poor against Taylor but I think he can bounce back.

It is early days but Josh Kelly and Anthony Yarde both look the part.

Can't see Anthony Fowler, Joe Cordina or Daniel Dubois doing much above domestic level.

Joe Joyce has an outside chance, provided they don't waste time feeding him scrubs.

Murray and Lee were the other two middleweights. And for your point is the exact point that Andy Lee is the only opponent I have interest in seeing Murray in with.

Like you say most world titles means f*ck all Liam Smith who is light years from world level won a version of a world title so that explains that.

I was quite dismissive of a so called boom of British talent with all the belt holders last year because a lot of them were vacant belts and or against poor opposition.

I hate this going a different route and targeting a weak title holder. If I could change one thing in boxing it would be one champion in each weight class. Which British fighters now would be THE CHAMPION.

I would say ? Joshua, Groves or Degale and that's it.

Far too wild and wide open for me.

He'll get found out at that weight class not usually an easy route to take there. Though Bellew did get a vacant belt chance.

It's early days (especially for Dubois), a lot of time for improvement. How many people said the same about Tyson Fury?
