You can be as big as you want, be covered in scars and tattoos but to me it's the eyes, the eyes give away a lot, you can tell if somebody is meek, strong or a complete psychopath just by looking at their eyes.

It seems to me that even just walking down the street, everybody seems to think that they are some kind of hard case.

This hasn't been helped by the Grant Mitchel effect.

10 years ago there were plenty of middle aged fat bald blokes about, but these days it seems that every fat bald bloke thinks that he is some kind of hard nut (especially if they have tattoos and/or a hard looking dog such as a staffie (often named Tyson or Rocky or something)).

They often wear tap out shirts

I have a staff crossbreed, they’re not 'hard looking' in the slightest. People place the negative connotations usually reserved for pit bulls on them. The reality is that, if raised correctly, you won’t find a gentler dog, although they are aggressive if someone approaches you in an aggressive way or tries it on.

I love staffies it's a shame chavs have adopted them as their pedigree chums

One on one probably even pissed course the chances are they'd get a shoeing but often fights involving groups tend to be resolved by a guy getting punched in the back of his head when he's not expecting it. Always be first. Walk away if you can - but if you can't be first.

Easiest thing is don't knock about with people who like trouble and don't go to pubs where trouble happens every week, if you're pretty sober you can 'smell' trouble brewing.

I hit a kid at school once. I was up against a wall and he had back up, loads of it. The others parted like the red sea. I did feel bad though later.......well, I felt very good for a few days......but a few weeks after he was on my street and we were playing. I felt a right c*nt. :(
Always been pretty mindful about letting it go after that......which means if ever bother happens, which it very rarely does with me, I'm almost immediately on the back foot cos I won't crack somebody unless they're going for me - which ain't very fair when you think about it!

I can remember 2 fights at school, one with a mate, one with another mate in his house and there was the one 10 minutes into the school trip abroad, if I'm honest 3 of those were started in some way by me and I threw the first punch in 3. In 2 of them I have no memory of being hit with a punch or even having one thrown at me and in one of the others I don't think he threw a proper punch either. I can only remember being hit once in all 4. I always tell myself I won't throw the first punch, but I can't help myself and start throwing punches.

Oi! I'm bald(not middle aged or fat) have tattoos and a couple of rottweilers and I don't think I'm hard, more like Hell on Earth.

I remember when the Calzaghe-Mikkel Kessler fight was announced I found Kessler quite scary with his tattoos but when I watched an interview I could not think what a gentleman he is. I think Ricky Burns comes over quite well as well. As for scary I think Miguel Cotto is quite intense.
