Got to agree with both Daviddee and Billy here. There is clearly talent coming out if the "sky team" slowey is a lovely boxer who on his night can look very good. What would he be like against a strong feather but? He hasn't got a dig to keep stronger guys away. He's not got one stoppage yet which people might find "unentertaining".
David Brophys fight with Gary Boulden was a good fight and that's only because he didn't stick to what he does best. A few people had him losing that fight. I personally had it a draw but think David wiuld easily win in renatch. I like Brophy but again not a massive puncher and Billy saying that Ronnie is boxing Jorneymen he needs to address who Brophy fights next then.
Simmons is entertaining to watch. His last fight was a tough one and fair play to him. He trains really hard and showed great fitness last time out. I would watch him in 50/50 fights like last time, but hope they don't go back the way regarding opponents.
Micheal Roberts is defo not great to watch. He doesn't do much for me and am guessing Sky ain't in love with him as his last 2 fights with matchroom have been floating fights. He doesn't carry a punch and infact don't thing he's stopped anyone yet. I remember Billy saying Roberts would school Ronnie Clark, you still think that billy?
Simpson is one of my favourite fighters and I won't be having a pop at him. He's done things the hard way and mist people would pay to see Simmy.
Appleby has had too many hard fights. He got hit wayyy too many times against lee Connelly on his comeback fight. He's very entertaining to watch but got the feeling he could get hurt at light welter.
Mcewan, never really saw the hype for him. Been schooled well and very experienced but would I pay to watch? Proves naw.
Ronnie Clark I have saw a handful of times and been good. He punches hard and looking at his record he's already boxed 3 unbeaten guys. 2 of them away from home. Slowey, Brophy, and Roberts ain't boxed a unbeaten guy between them so that kinda says a bit. I don't know how good Clark is but I would pay to watch him.

Billy if these guys Wernt boxing on Ricky's undercard the tickets wouldn't sell so well. You and I both know that as Morrison would be putting Brophy on Kilmarnock bills etc instead of having to cancel them and he would sell the. Out himself. Ronnie would sell that amount of tickets having a world champion headlining. Scottish boxing is lacking and everyone has a part to play. I think your a great trainer and Ricky is a class guy but you call people deluded when your opinions are based on 1. Who you train 2. Who there manager is. Ronnie wouldn't say a bad word about Alex and likes him and his wife. Said there genuine boxing people . I don't know gilmour to have an opinion. Ronnie wants to fight and Morrison seems to protect his fighters whereas far as I know ronnie has said he can't wait about wants tested:) billy you know how the ronnie and Roberts fight would go. :)

Jamie - you're always very quick to jump to the defence of Ronnie, just as Billy is with his fighters/interests - it's just the trait of having respect for the people around you. Billy clearly doesn't respect Tommy Gilmour and makes no secret of that for whatever reason. As far as anything in regards to the guys like Simmons, Slowey etc, they're with the right promoter in this country to get them places - no doubt about that as far as I can see. Slowey's had a very good apprenticeship and is now stepping it up a level with the right guys behind him to ensure this is possible. As is Simmons - all being made possible by being with the right man at the right time, Alex Morrison. Ronnie may have all the potential in the World - but at 28, and now with as what you call a "top promoter", he really shouldn't be fighting over 2 minute rounds and only beating journeymen. Lets not forget, no matter how admirable it is for Ronnie to go away and fight undefeated guys in their own backyard, he's never actually won any of those fights.
Matchroom, Dave Coldwell & Alex Morrison are the three guys you want to be associated with if you're a fighter in Britain at present. Plenty TV & press coverage which is exceptional for the fighters point of view when attracting sponsors, and with the added bonus of always being on a bill where there's going to be a title fight of some sort, ticket sales will follow inevitably.

U make some vey good points mate. The only one I kind of disagree with is where ronnie has had draws as the away fighter( I havnt seen these fights so I cud b wrong) a draw as an away fighter for me is like a win I've saw plenty bad decisions go against away fighters. But I agree he nedds to step up. He sud b looking at fights with the winner of hooper v kays(english title but winner right in british contention) or male v james who have an eliminator sanctioned by the board for the british title. Also ben jones foster jnr buckland a win against any of these wud put ronnie right in the mix for a british title shot. It also shows the fights r their 2 50-50 fights their where the loser has really nowhere to go only hope they get picked for a vol defence. So its upto his tg to get his man in the mix if he believes in him

The ice arena show had well over 1000 people there and almost all of them were Ronnie's fan so deluded your far wrong. Ronnie done that without a World Champion fighting and all the press power that Matchroom have. A good ticket seller doesn't make you a interesting boxer to watch fight. He's obviously quite a popular guy and good for him because if he can sell 600 every fight he would be fighting every month.. As for the atmosphere for Ronnie v Al Hamidi it was very noisy did you not get quite a hard time as I remember you acknowledged it a few times so not as quiet as you make out. As for a bore fest you were in al Hamidi's corner why didn't you give him the right tactics to fight rather than run and try and use the head?? Ronnie boxed very well and played with a guy and one more convincingly than a lot of big name fighters I've saw fight him.. If you were in Ronnie's corner your outlook would be different I'm sure at least my opinion stays the same and I don't change depending who's around me

I agree with many of your points, the thing about David Brophy is hes a work in progress Daviedee talke as though Ronnie is a proven title level fighter, which at present he isn't.

I know Ricky is far and away the biggest ticket seller in Scotland followed by Brophy of coarse promoters are going to have them on there shows, don't certain promoters pull you off shows if you don't sell enough tickets?

Davie,Ronnie never sold more than 200 tickets for that show and if there was a 1000 people there they must have been in the skating,if there were 600 there you'd be lucky, hence the reason Tony Lindie lost a load of money on the show

I'd just like to make it very clear I think Ronnie is a fine fighter and wish he'd have signed with Morrison who would have IMO got him the title shot he wants by now, however Ronnie moved a little quick when leaving Lindie,it remains to be seen ifits the right move

I'm not sure if Ricky is by far the best ticket seller mate because Lee sold 3000 on his own for the fight against Denis Shafikov, David Brophy might also be a decent ticket seller too but nowhere near that level? I think you don't realise how well the boxing is supported up here

Maybe you should give Tony a quick call and ask how many people were there.. Both sides were full and there was a lot of tables.. The Arena holds 3000 with both sides very busy obviously a lot more than 600.. I was told by Tony initially there was 1200 there I thought between 900-1000. None of the other fighters sold many tickets so were they all just walk ins from the street? Maybe they thought it was dancing on ice? Ronnie went on to sell over 100 tickets for the Meadowbank show in Edinburgh not bad for a fight over an hour away..

Well that's what he sold. Tommy can't sell the shows up there without Lee or Matty!! I think you should listen to people who know rather than reading things mate.

Getting a ticket to a McAllister card can be an absolute nightmare, especially the ones that were held at the Beach Ballroom. Always seemed to be a sell out show whenever Lee or Matty are involved.
I've never attended so maybe shouldn't comment, but Gary Cornish and the rest of the Inverness mob that Tommy Gilmour has fighting for him seem to pull in a bit of a crowd to the Ironworks and the hotel he uses for boxing up there.
I think a lot of that is probably more down to the scarceness of boxing shows being held up in this area.

Bit of a difference between 3,000 and close to 10,000 at the SECC, Burns might not have sold all of those on his own, but they were most definitely there to see him fight.

i don't know exactly how much there were at the SECC but i doubt it was close to 10,000 but it could have been. Remember there was good ticket sellers on the bill including Slowey and Brophy. I'm sure Simmons, Appleby, Mick Roberts sold a decent amount too.
I'm sure Ricky can sell loads of tickets because the Coatbridge boys are loyal but i was just wanting to put it out there that there are other ticket sellers out there not just Ricky Burns and David Brophy both who train with Billy!!

We have always had lots of travelling fans, when Lee fought John Murray we brought about a third of all fans at the show in Wigan.

For the world title fights the attendances were (these are estimations based on what I saw on TV and reported figures)
Martinez - 2,500 sell out
Evensen - 4,000
Laryea - 5,000
Cook - ?
Katsidis - ?
Moses - 6,000
Mitchell - 9,000+
Gonzalez - 7,000
Beltran - 7,000
For the Mitchell fight there was practically no undercard, Simpson in a Celtic title fight was the only fight over 8 rounds.
If those figures aren't right or someone has the attendances then feel free to correct me.

For the Mitchell fight there was practically no undercard, Simpson in a Celtic title fight was the only fight over 8 rounds.
If those figures aren't right or someone has the attendances then feel free to correct me.[/quote]
7,000 is a fair bit off 10,000 too!! haha
I know quite a lot of people attended the Mitchell fight to see Scott Harrison but if those figures are true then they are very good attendances. You also have to remember that Aberdeen doesn't have the population or the other fighters to sell out arena's that big but i believe that if we could have got the win against Shafikov then we could have opened the arena out to 5000 to defend against a bigger name. Nobody had ever heard of him and lee was only the challenger for the title, all the undercard fights except Matty and Darren Traynor doing 4 rounders were Maloney's boys from down south and they never sold any tickets.

Lee is still planning on carrying on but since the Denis Shafikov fight he has been battling one injury after another but hopefully he gets the all clear soon to resume training properly.

I'm sure Ricky can sell loads of tickets because the Coatbridge boys are loyal but i was just wanting to put it out there that there are other ticket sellers out there not just Ricky Burns and David Brophy both who train with Billy!!
For the world title fights the attendances were (these are estimations based on what I saw on TV and reported figures)
Martinez - 2,500 sell out
Evensen - 4,000
Laryea - 5,000
Cook - ?
Katsidis - ?
Moses - 6,000
Mitchell - 9,000+
Gonzalez - 7,000
Beltran - 7,000

The guy came because he was getting more money than hed have earned before, he was the champion fighting in the challengers home town you get well paid

Yes, I meant the Mitchell fight as being over 9,000. I can't guarantee the figures, but the Kelvin Hall held 2,500 and was sold out for Martinez, at the Braehead it wasn't full for Evensen and Laryea but was full or close to it for Moses and the last 2 fights have been around 7,000. The most impressive about the figures for me is the consistency, the last 2 have been below the Mitchell fight, but an average of over 7,000 for the last 4 fights is good going.
