Povetkin is his lightest in 3 1/2 years, looks in very good shape and didn't seem in the slightest bit intimidated at the weigh in. COME ON SASHA

You seem remarkably upbeat for someoen who claims to have lost a grand. yeah, we should not listen to a single word you say, as you are a liar as well as a poor judge of boxingkeithmoonhangover wrote:Did I say Povetkin, I meant Wlad.

In fairness to Keith, we still don't know whether Wladimir can beat Alex in a fairly officiated boxing match.
Povetkin was as stiff & slow as I expected, however, he was doing the right things and making Klitschko uncomfortable, which is exactly why Wladimir & the referee teamed up to perform one of the most disgraceful acts of excessive cheating I've ever seen in a boxing match at any weight from all the footage I've seen in my life which goes as far back as the early 1900s (the fights, not my life).
Can Wladimir win a real fight with a referee who won't let him hold? I still don't know.

Luis Pabon's attempt at officiating was quite pathetic. I would've warned Wlad as soon as he did that full power lean down. One more warning then a point off the next time which would have been in the first round!loaded_gloves wrote:In fairness to Keith, we still don't know whether Wladimir can beat Alex in a fairly officiated boxing match.

I'm glad somebody else sees it like that. I could have written those words.
Wlad comes into the ring with a gameplan for holding, in the same way that Mike McCallum, Ricky Hatton or Julio Cesar Chavez would know that body punching and in-fighting is going to be integral to their performance and a key to victory. Wlad doesn't fight on the inside, and can't body punch, he has simply perfected a system of punching, holding, leaning on and pushing over.
I think the guy could have 150 defences and it would make no impact on his legacy. What he does isn't fighting or boxing.

Re: Povetkin beats Wlad on Saturday... who's with me?
It was apparent early that the holding while not only excessive was also flagrantly their to squeeze and drain Povetkin, hold him tight and sag down on him. This is boxing, a fist fight, not wrestling. The referee should have issued clear warnings as early as round two and begun deducting points shortly after.
Henry Akinwande was rightly disqualified for holding and not fighting.
Wladimir wasn't trying to outbox his foe, he was trying to squeeze the life out of him, hitting while holding, and multiple throws to the floor.
Nikolay Valuev watching at ringside must have been thinking 'Christ, I didn't know you could do all this? I could have still been undefeated fighting this style!'
We witnessed high open corruption on multiple levels last night, from the commentators to one of the fighter to the referee to the promoters.

It's not often I agree with LG, but he's right. Even if he faced an exceptional in fighter, it's not going to matter as they're not going to be allowed to use it. I can see Fury or Del sticking the nut on him if they ever meet.
Re: Povetkin beats Wlad on Saturday... who's with me?
Someone pointed out on Youtube, the Sam Peter fight is an interesting one to watch from that point of view. The American ref breaks them and wont let Wlad lean and it's a pretty uncomfortable fight for him at times. Although his still clearly wins even with the three knockdowns.

God forbid Wlad should learn how to fight on the inside.loaded_gloves wrote:In fairness to Keith, we still don't know whether Wladimir can beat Alex in a fairly officiated boxing match.

Just been watching some Lennox footage. Compare the way Lewis would instinctively shorten his punches on the inside, throwing big uppercuts and hooks, with what Wlad does on the inside, which is reach out and grab, not even try and land punches, but just foul. Night and day. Pugilistic mastery vs cheating robotic buffoonery.

Example. ... years ago, I was in a serious car crash and a few months later the doctor told me I was losing the use of my legs. I said, "that's alright, I like sitting down. "
That's just me.

Dammage, if he could have sparked Povetkin out he would have.
To do that would have meant engaging in a fight, and he was too frightened to Povetkin landing on him, which looked a clear and distinct possibility.
Luckily for him the referee allowed him to cheat his way to safety, and score some 'knockdowns' by simply throwing him to the floor.
That fight is the equal of the Sven Ottke/Robin Reid horrorshow we witnessed 10 years ago, previously the high benchmark of an openly corrupt boxing match.

I've come on here to vent and LG is saying everything I wanted to say.
It is legalised cheating from Wlad. It is not fighting or boxing. Instead of doing things like fighting on the inside and trading, he has perfected the art of leaning and holding.
The sport is truely deprived of genuinely good heavyweights at world title level if boxing fans think this charade passes for a dominant heavyweight champ.
And by the way he's been doing this for years, last night was just particularly bad, probably because the opponent was more dangerous than usual.
Wlad used to turn sideways on, to make it practically impossible for the opponent to hit him. He didn't do that last night but he was doing everything else.

I think you summed it up very well with this sentence.JimJim2009 wrote:And by the way he's been doing this for years, last night was just particularly bad, probably because the opponent was more dangerous than usual.
