Is that the 'best' you can do.

It didn't take a large amount of 'brains' to know that Martin Luther King should have been
recognized for his great stride for equal rights.

John McCain.,,,,,,,,,,'a blockhead'........and a poor Pilot.

OK you are being too clever by half. McCain is no racist you know this. Arizona was backing an alternative to MLK day, and he was representing the state of AZ. They wished for it to be called "Civil Rights Day" as not to make it a pledge to anyone one man/woman. But a celebration of the human spirit. This was NOT meant to disrespect King's memory...only to share this with the many men and women who strived mightily to achieve change.

Only you could spin this into something perverse. It was only meant to share the glory of such achievement with many. It was an idea that did not prevail in favor of making it in MLK's honor. MLK would have likely approved the shared version, as he was a humble man. In an odd quirk of fate, we did sort of depersonalize the various president's days, and collapse them into "Presidents Day" while making the Civil Rights celebration a personal honoring of King.

Nothing overly "good" or "bad" in any of those scenarios. But the differences of opinions did create an atmosphere of tension as those details were worked out. You can't make this stuff up.

Well....except for our friend Il Duce....who does a good job with fiction.

He doesn't look like a racist here:

John McCain, did 'not' want to recognize a day for Martin Luther King as a National Holiday.

It had nothing to do with being or not being a 'racist'.

It had everything to do with the man being a 'blockhead', and lifelong 'Political Hack'.
Maybe it was done out of political expedience but he saw the error of his ways.

Nonsense, you speak of something you know nothing about.

Though I will grant you that "blockhead" and "political hack" are both subjective and thus bars us from any substantive discussion. Not unlike many of your contributions.

I think you are very much a "Blue Meanie".

There...see ...now you've gone and done it. You pushed my buttons, and I lost control..and now must take full responsibility for sinking to your level. I owe myself an apology.

And, Cassius Clay called 'The Beatles'.........'Who are those little Fags'

'Young Cassius[.........a homophobe.
That is true. He did say that. He also said that some fifty years ago.* You do know it wasn't until 1972 that the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses and there are still forty or so states where gay folks don't have full rights of citizenship.

* I also think he was referring to their countenances and not their sexuality. I suspect the tallest of the lot wasn't more than 5'8 inches tall and one hundred and fifty pounds.

Are You Serious,

The 'last thing' Cassius would have had to worry about in Vietnam was being shot by the Viet Cong.

The 'Odds' were, that he would have been shot by one of his own men within 24-Hours.

'That's A Fact Jack'

What part of "I'm sure the VC were glad he wasn't over there shooting at (th)em" don't you understand?

BTW, when he was in Kinshasa getting ready to beat up Big george some VietNamese college students thanked him for his antiwar stance.
