Evander and Tyson sparred back in '84 and Evander didn't fold and gave back as good as he was getting, despite being a good bit lighter (he was a little older though to be fair). When Mike couldn't bully a guy he'd as good as lost.the truth wrote:Some of you lot go on like tyson was average , at his peak he was top 3 heavyweight of all time peak for peak, he lost hunger after jail and was deteriorating per jail , as for Holyfield a short notice bert cooper nearly smoked him but you think a 21 year old tyson would of lost to him , lol ok

Either Tyson by ko or WK shits himself so badly he does an Akinwande and gets DQ'd.

I can't believe some people are actually putting Wlad.. Tyson had proper demons if he had the dedication and right attitude he would be down as the greatest of all time and would probably still be undefeated
Re: Mike Tyson vs Wlad Klitschko
Maybe that 20% feel Wlad can wrap/tie/grab/clinch Tyson up in a Cocoon of Horror.

But it's utterly pointless saying that as he didn't.daviddee wrote:I can't believe some people are actually putting Wlad.. Tyson had proper demons if he had the dedication and right attitude he would be down as the greatest of all time and would probably still be undefeated

I think this mythical peak Tyson is just that, a myth.Riddick Blowe wrote:20 per cent come from the funny farm! It's silly season out there!orbtastic wrote:Maybe that 20% feel Wlad can wrap/tie/grab/clinch Tyson up in a Cocoon of Horror.
He looked good against a bunch of miscreants who snorted, smoked, injected and whored their careers away. Some of them had some skill but they were inconsistent for large portions of their career.
As I said earlier in the thread, I think the Wlad that gets put away by Brewester and Sanders gets put away by Tyson but let's face it, if my mum was in the ring against Wlad in the 5th round he'd still have fallen over.
To suggest Wlad actually shits himself is just laughable, I mean his chin's so bad that any sort of meaningful punch is going to knock him cold? Why? Nobody's done that in his entire career? He's so scared of being hit he keeps taking high profile multi-million dollar fights on international TV, yeah that's a real scardey cat right there, surprised he's not wearing a giant nappy instead of a pair of shorts.
Were the 80s heavies better than those of today? Yes, but as I said their form is so terrible it's hard to pick on more than two fingers the best guys from the period. DK fed these stooges to Tyson and they were all complicit. Tucker did the best but he did some grabbing, but do people forget the risible performances against Green and Smith where it became a hug-fest? Where was Zenith Tyson then, punching his way out of clinches and countering their hugging techniques?
Someone said that the Holyfield that almost got KO'd by Cooper gets smoked by Tyson? Really? The same Tyson that hit Holyfield (and let's be right here, a Holyfield some people said might actually die in the ring against Tyson due to his poor form going into the fight) with his Sunday punch in the first round and Holyfield didn't even register it. Oh right, that Tyson would have knocked out Holyfield if they fought after the Douglas fight.
Re: Mike Tyson vs Wlad Klitschko
People talk about the Spinks fight as being Mike's best, I don't agree. For me, by far the best win of Mike's career was against a semi-retired guy having his first fight back after back-to-back losses two years earlier.
Re: Mike Tyson vs Wlad Klitschko
Tyson was fantastic but burnt out very quickly, he didn't have the discipline or temperament to maintain a level consistently; it wouldn't have been an easy fight for either boxer and lets face it. both could have problems under fire or when the bout was going against them.
Re: Mike Tyson vs Wlad Klitschko
It was very exciting watching Tyson on the way up. He was matched very carefully and cynically though and too many people overlook that. Look at the way they took the foot off the gas after he struggled with Tillis and couldn't hurt Green, for example. Straight back to Tomato Cans.
Re: Mike Tyson vs Wlad Klitschko
Can you imagine how much money someone like him would make today? Crazy money.

Re: Mike Tyson vs Wlad Klitschko
I can't see where Tyson avoided anyone. He was hardly matched like Hughie Fury. After 2 short years he fought for a world title at a young age. Fought Berbick becuase he was WBC champ, next fight Smith was the WBA champ, IBF unbeaten champ Tucker 2 fights later, Biggs was a prospect (although not a very good one), Spinks was unbeaten and considered a challange, Bruno was considered dangerous for anyone, Tubbs' only loss was for a world title previously in a close decision. He blew thew majority of them names away
Re: Mike Tyson vs Wlad Klitschko
1) Hughie is just starting out - if you look at the first 4 or 5 of Tysons opponents they weren't really competition.danconnollyeire wrote:I can't see where Tyson avoided anyone. 2) Biggs had been Olympic Gold Medalist and a very decent fighter with lots of heart and had struggled with a drug problem pre '84 Olympics, he deserves more respect (not just from you Dan, there's lots who think he was a poor fighter, he wasn't).

Re: Mike Tyson vs Wlad Klitschko
I often wonder how many times Wlad needed to be stopped before people understand he is an Amir Khan-level fighter. One more shot from Steve Pannell perhaps, BOOM! One more clumsy, wide-swinging right hand from glorified bum Sam Peter in the 12th maybe, OOF! A chance for a more prolonged attack from slug-slow Marius Wach to land another right hand before the bell went, BAM!
Wladimir Klitschko, 61 and 6,all 6 by stoppage, and his best win is STILL Chris friggin Byrd! Conceivable? Definitely! A legitimate challenge for Mike Tyson? Ho ho ho!
LG sends his regards by the way. He has retired from Boxrec after a bout of depression brought on by this thread. He is accepting wellwishes from everyone who didn't vote for Wlad in the poll. At least 80 per cent of people have their senses about them anyway.

I do agree with you but I can't see Fury fighting for three world titles by the time he's 21. I agree about Biggs, I meant not a very good prospect as in he didn't really live up to the gold medal hype. But what your saying kind of justifies my point furtherpalooka wrote:1) Hughie is just starting out - if you look at the first 4 or 5 of Tysons opponents they weren't really competition.danconnollyeire wrote:I can't see where Tyson avoided anyone. No, Fury won't fight for a world title and I see what you mean about Biggs, it's a shame if things had been different....danconnollyeire wrote:I do agree with you but I can't see Fury fighting for three world titles by the time he's 21. I love that first round from Biggs, dancing around bam-bam-bam with the jab.

He was a very good boxer and he was thrown to the wolves (Tyson) by his handlers, I wonder how he is now, if he's happy and contented?orbtastic wrote:I love that first round from Biggs, dancing around bam-bam-bam with the jab.
