I get what your saying but he cant win really. half think hes being rushed too fast, whilst the other half criticise his level of opposition.

Honestly, I think he could make a higher jump in quality opposition, but I think him being held back facing dubious opponents for too long will be more of a detriment to his growth mentally/emotionally as a fighter---- if he can be matched tougher, over the next few fights, then it will be healthier for him in long run, than to keep forcing these subpars on him and then BAM he lands a fight with someone who he wouldnt be exactly ready for. The young man shows alot of promise--- he can spar with anyone, and he showed that with his cousin Tyson, Cunningham and Chambers on multiple occasions; so I know in dangerous spots he can defend himself, I'd just rather not see him have to be in a hard fought struggle, when being developed better beforehand would remedy that.

well i cant argue with that. I think their mode of thinking is to get him the experience of fighting all over the place, vs different shapes, sizes, styles etc. but no1 too ambitious while they do it. Fighting with a cut etc.... Ive no probs if they start stepping him up in the new year. I'd say give him 4 more run outs then look at richard towers or matt skelton types. I think hes prob learning a bundle through tysons training camps.

I seem to recall Tyson Fury calling for Oliver McCall after he'd had about 5 fights. It's just the camps MO to look for headlines. Clearly will be lucky to win a British title by the time he's Tyson's age.

He will beat Hughes within a couple of rounds, prob the 1st

After reading on this site that he was on Eurosport, I was looking forward to his fight last Friday.

To be honest, after the hype I could not believe what I was watching. I was very disappointed and expected much more.

When he first came out with that strange rigid (from his feet, legs, back, neck and head) stance with his arm stuck out at a strange angle he looked like a novice amateur having his first spar.

Any talk about world titles is not only outrageous but actually disrespectful to all who have held a heavyweight world title.

And before anybody says he is just a young lad etc. I agree and have judged his as such. However, remember that Hughie has been surrounded by boxing his whole life, he has never had a job etc. but has just trained all day every day for years and been surrounded by the best facilities and trainers and nutritionists etc. etc.

He also doesn't have the worry about where his next fight will come from or having to sell tickets etc.

After taking all this into consideration I thought that he was very poor.

I think he is a decent prospect, but agree that talk of World titles is way too early.

We need to see him in with someone of proven quality before making any judgement.

It was weird - he looked like some robotic giraffe, not somebody who has had the benefit of full time training and tuition for years.

This be true. Same went for Tyson. In fact, same went for Peter and John and their brother Hugh when they were pros back in the day. This family, and their cousins, etc. have been around fighting their whole lives--- and have trained, competed as amateurs and some as pros, from the day they were old enough to walk til the grave. It is something strange in a sense, to see someone like that and have all the advantages of a big time promoter, backers, nutritionists, etc. coupled with all those years of training and family knowledge for the game--- and so far, twelve fights against novices, and each fight looking like a sparring session.

I do know Peter wants Hughie to face an odd assortment of men of various sizes and styles, which was the same method that team D'Amato/Rooney/Atlas/Jacobs used with Mike Tyson in the early going--- safe opponents, who will give little tests, and still make their man look great. Problem is, the last time Hughie look excellent (at least to me) was on the undercard of Cunningham/Fury when he blew away that musclebound 1-0-0 guy with a body punch. Every other fight since, has been going the distance or look like 'patty cake-patty cake baker's man' games or 'Tag You're It'--- and what tests he's had (McPhilbin) showed nothing cus the fighter lost cus their shoulder popped out or some other circumstance before we could see whether the kid could be pushed at all.

I think Hughie has a bit more focus than Tyson, but I can sense the kid is getting bored facing these guys. One day, he's going to get too used to this, and wind up facing someone who won't get scared, who's studied the tapes, and has prepared well and has taken a slightly tougher road than Hughie and BAM... Hughie may or may not lose in that situation, but at this rate it is kind of scary to keep seeing the same old, same old and such talk of him breaking Mike Tyson's record as youngest champion in history---- I'm seeing a Marvis Frazier type accident just waiting to happen.

Danny Hughes' conditioning & power is questionable but his chin isn't and he has decent hand speed. I havent seen anything from Hughie that suggests he could blow anyone out in one round at that level.

One of the reasons that Hughie has been going the distance recently is that he is fighting journeyman who are surviving and trying to get through the fight, Danny Hughes would come to win and take a few risks. Because Fury is a few levels ahead of him he will find the gaps, get Hughes to walk on to shots and end up looking good. I'm not saying Hughes is chinny or anything but when a fighter goes shit or bust when he is out of his depth he gets stopped, ESP in the heavies.

Hughie has had 12 fights, Danny has had 15.
Danny's been in the ring with Sprott and Audley neither of whom could KO him.
I agree Hughie should win but it all seems to point to a points win, there's nothing in Hughie's track record to say he can stop Danny in the 1st round when Audley & Sprott couldn't.
