You don't have to necessarily be thick-skinned, you just don't need to abuse posters.tijuana1 wrote:ou have to be extremely thick skinned to post on here... Im sure the show in Abu Dhabi was great no worse than what gets sanctioned in UK.
The difference is one of us knows the environment on the ground and one of us had friends who were paying punters in attendance. I wouldn't in a million years speculate how the show that took place in the Czech Republic went on Thursday night for exactly the reasons I've outlined above. I'm genuinely surprised you feel differently.
It happens a lot over here too.rio wrote:Any show that starts 2 hours late is clearly not organized and run by a bunch of cowboys. Imagine how pissed off ppl would be if that happened here?
Thank tijuana1, you very right there, too many negative people, amazingly who all have someone in Abu Dhabi.tijuana1 wrote:Ive been involved in boxing amateur and pro well over 20 yrs been to many shows as a paying fan and a fighter, im entitled and I think qualified to have an opinion or speculate how a show might have gone.
Like I said lots of shows I've attended took part in have started late been badly run. As for Danny I have no comment I dont pass his medicals I dont know the guy. The other boxers on the undercard shouldn't be speculated that they where poo. Do any of us really know how it went.

Danny was not banned for health reasons, but because of his losses, for someone who says he has lived there since 1999, you know very little of the people there and you are steriotyping, The wealthy don't part with their money easily, especially in the UAE, I know a lot of local promoters out there including Isa Al Dah, Zack Tamafi and also American Promoters like Jessie Robinson (once right hand man to Don King) and this Promoter Edward Mendy and believe me they need Sponsors and need to sell tickets, like anywhere else, most use their own money. I rest my case.Deserter wrote:You don't have to necessarily be thick-skinned, you just don't need to abuse posters.tijuana1 wrote:ou have to be extremely thick skinned to post on here... As for being sure the show was great, how can you be sure when you have absolutely no knowledge of it?
Finally, the fact that Danny Williams, who is banned from fighting in the UK due to health reasons, was the headliner, means it was automatically worse than what gets sanctioned in the UK.
Let me be clear, as from the tone of your post you're implying I'm some sort of troll. I've followed boxing for more than 30 years, including boxing as an amateur, and I've been on this forum for more than 10 - have a look at my previous posts and see how often I'll slag a boxer - barely ever as I have a huge amount of respect for them.
However, having lived in the UAE since 1999 on and off, I'm sick of promoters or would-be promoters viewing it with dollar signs in their eyes, thinking they'll make easy cash from locals with more money than sense.
It never works, for a variety of reasons, and while I desperately would love to see boxing take off properly in the region it has to happen in the right way.
Promoting a show with a man who should not be in a ring as the headliner, and trying to pull the wool over the public's eyes by trumpeting the fact he beat Mike Tyson is NOT the right way to build or promote boxing in the region. I defy anyone to argue that point with me.
The long game needs to be played, with development at a grass roots level, coupled with the right kind of international fighters being showcased. If Amir had fought Alexander, as was mooted some time back, that could have been a great way to grow awareness in the right way, rather than this show, which contrary to your view was clearly not 'great'.
I agree with you, you are very qualified to comment and I have been to a lot of shows over here and in other countries, that have been late starting, I can't understand sometimes the hatred for new developing boxing countries, in this country we are in a mess, hardly any tv coverage, less and less shows, about only 2 world champions, no money in the sport over here and unlicensed shows, some with pro boxers taking part and the Board can do nothing about them.tijuana1 wrote:Ive been involved in boxing amateur and pro well over 20 yrs been to many shows as a paying fan and a fighter, im entitled and I think qualified to have an opinion or speculate how a show might have gone.

With reference to my earlier post, one down and one to go !!
Tell me any of them who were funded by the rich arabs in the UAE ? You miss the point or won't admit you were wrong for a change, my point was there is no funding in the UAE, Hatton has been there, Khan has, even My boys from Germany, the biggest promoters in Europe, lately Jonny Eames tried, no funding, no fools parting with their money, not saying you are wrong about people feeling that way, but the rich Arabs don't throw their money at the first salesman who comes along, even sponsorship is different there to here, there if a native sponsors your promotion, you have to pay them.Deserter wrote:Saf (as it is clearly you), let's cut to the chase:Anzi wrote:Danny was not banned for health reasons, but because of his losses, for someone who says he has lived there since 1999, you know very little of the people there and steriotyping, The wealthy don't part with their money easily, especially in the UAE, I know a lot of local promoters out there including Isa Al Dah, Zack Tamafi and also American Promoters like Jessie Robinson (once right hand man to Don King) and this Promoter Edward Mendy and believe me they need Sponsors and sell tickets, like anywhere else, most use their own money. 1) It is deliberately misleading to say that Danny has been banned purely for his losses. There are journeymen who have far more losses than Danny. It was clearly a ban based on the nature of his losses, his clear loss of faculties and his own confession to being "shot" and lacking punch resistance.
2) Relating to the above, if you think it's appropriate to have Danny in his current condition acting as a headliner and for the publicity surrounding him to be focused on a result more than 10 years ago rather than his current performances, hence misleading the casual public, then that says all I need to know about your ethics.
3) Congratulations on missing my earlier point where I clearly stated that the wealthy in the UAE don't part with their money easily and that I was sick of seeing promoters coming in from overseas who didn't grasp this fact and so could make easy money - go and reread my post and feel free to apologise for misrepresenting me.
4) Most of those you refer to are not promoters in the UK sense. I don't know Isa personally, but by all accounts he's a good guy and is in the process of setting up a gym/healthclub at Sunset Mall in Jumeirah - I suspect he'd be the first person to say he's a fighter, not a promoter. Zack has done some decent grass-roots stuff with KO Gym, but his background is primarily muay thai/kickboxing and his shows reflect that. After his one 'dabble' with a proper pro card earlier this year (with Xiong Zhao Zhong) I suspect he won't be doing anything similar again for a while. Robinson doesn't appear to have done anything of note since he came on the scene a couple of years ago talking about bringing big names in and finally, Mendy and Lionheart are based in the States, not in the UAE.
In summary, I know the scene far better than you do and as I said earlier, I want boxing to develop in the region. That will not happen properly through events like the one on Thursday night.
Saf, you are just embarrassing yourself with your posts at the moment. I've now had to go back and quote my earlier post where I explicitly said that the stereotype of a rich Arab guy with more money than sense is wrong, to prove to you as you keep on insisting I have the opposite view, while ignoring all my other points.Deserter wrote:Sorry if I sound harsh, but everyone always speculates when it's something in this part of the world without necessarily knowing how it works, hence the stereotype of 'some rich Arab'.Weirdyman wrote:I reckon there must be some money behind it, some rich Arab has probably paid to use their promotional nous. It's probably a bit of a trial run.
Oh, and please stop trying to explain things to someone who knows far more about them than you, hence you misunderstanding the different types of sponsorship out here.Anzi wrote:even sponsorship is different there to here, there if a native sponsors your promotion, you have to pay them.
What shows start 2 hours late here? Some overrun and fights are on later than scheduled, but they don't start that late.Anzi wrote:It happens a lot over here too.rio wrote:Any show that starts 2 hours late is clearly not organized and run by a bunch of cowboys. He was banned because he was taking beatings in every fight that could lead to him being seriously hurt, so I'd say they are health reasons. The fact that Don King's former right hand man is involved out there says a lot, you have to be a crook to be that close to someone like King.Anzi wrote:Danny was not banned for health reasons, but because of his losses, for someone who says he has lived there since 1999, you know very little of the people there and you are steriotyping, The wealthy don't part with their money easily, especially in the UAE, I know a lot of local promoters out there including Isa Al Dah, Zack Tamafi and also American Promoters like Jessie Robinson (once right hand man to Don King) and this Promoter Edward Mendy and believe me they need Sponsors and need to sell tickets, like anywhere else, most use their own money. There's plenty of TV coverage here, Dave Coldwell and Steve Wood have shows live on apps and over the internet, as was the Welsh show last week. Mickey Helliet has a few shows on Eurosport, Steve Goodwin's had a few on primetime, Channel 5 are still involved, Sky have regular shows on and we have the worlds only dedicated boxing channel. There's loads of shows on and numerous fighters who are closing in on world titles and will fight for them in the next 18 months.Anzi wrote:I agree with you, you are very qualified to comment and I have been to a lot of shows over here and in other countries, that have been late starting, I can't understand sometimes the hatred for new developing boxing countries, in this country we are in a mess, hardly any tv coverage, less and less shows, about only 2 world champions, no money in the sport over here and unlicensed shows, some with pro boxers taking part and the Board can do nothing about them.tijuana1 wrote:Ive been involved in boxing amateur and pro well over 20 yrs been to many shows as a paying fan and a fighter, im entitled and I think qualified to have an opinion or speculate how a show might have gone.
