Its generally all drug related (not saying this is though) all this effing crime. Bout time the government did some action or got real about the crime thats being committed in this country, start to listen to the public and not Brussels. Another sad loss and another youngster behind bars, but it effects more than the 2 people here involved. My brother was killed in prison some 25 years ago aged 18 and the effects last a life time. A man has been killed and left loved ones suffering. A man has killed and left a family devastated. But he will be home before he is 27.

We need a revolution

wind your neck in pal, life in the ghetto has always been tough, always will be. what's the govt go to do with anything?

without knowing the facts behind the case it's silly to start wringing your hands in mock grief just because one of them was a boxer.
Where do you think the UK is? Ghetto? The UK is not the Bronx.

Also ive been through this my friend so you wind your neck in!

My point was that there are too many youngsters in this country either dieing or killing. Whatever the reason people do not kill just for the sake of it there are always circumstances. Its a crying shame that lots of people are suffering because in most cases there are gangs and drugs involved. People are killing for money for drugs, people are killing because they are in rival gangs etc. I am not making any presumptions what happened here all I know it devastates families. The government have to take some responsibility when crime is as it is. No work, no money. Kids cant get a job because all trade is overseas in sweatshops. We are not America where murder is once every minute or so. We do not live in Ghetto's, sure there are bad parts of the UK but I would not be scared to 'death' to walk don a street in Hartlepool, infact been there several times with my kids on cross country races and Northern league footy matches, and never once seen a murder! Never once seen a mugging etc, infact in my 45 years of poor existence I have never witnessed a murder or a mugging or a theft. How many americans can say that. We do not live in america, Ghetto's dont make me laugh.
should have just said gutter instead of ghetto, but you see my point. not everything is the govt's fault....everyone gets a chance at a free education, some fools dont choose to take it.

one boxer turns bully and beats a kid up, kid kills the boxer in revenge. i'm sorry a man has died (for his family) but i wont be shedding any tears for any of them. all better off the streets than on them by the sounds of it.

im a boxing fan but if someone plays up and gets found out then they have brought about their own demise, boxer or not.

Of all the books I have read about such characters, he is the least impressive with a shocking "record" of tear ups. Beat nobody, bullied a few, lifted a few weights, got off his nut all the time and eventually got stabbed to death by an even more of a nobody.

I know half these books and stories are bullshit, but in Duffy's case the bullshit wasn't even impressive!
I found the whole north east 'wars' etc really boring. It was the same with that bodybuilder bloke in Newcastle who got shot. Seemed a complete nobody in the grand scheme of things. Never known of big time gangsters who 'run things' living in poxy two up, two down terraces and not having a pot to piss in!

Exactly what I thought. The only reason they had books about them, seemingly written by their best friends too, is because they were murdered. That's the only remotely interesting thing about them.

In the Duffy book there was something about a guy who travelled to Jamaica and a local asked where he was from, when he said Teesside, the local apparently asked him if he had heard of Lee Duffy!

If anything, shite like that is at least quite amusing I guess!

Having and old fashioned fight and then shaking hands died a long time ago. Respect played a big part even then. Win or lose, you showed respect to each other and it ended there. There was no continuation. Nowadays, there is no respect, in general, least of all fighting and winning 'at all costs' is an attitude sadly lauded in our society, today.

Palooka, I grew up in donny as you know. Tough place was always getting kicked in by older lads. sometimes got pissed on too. Trouble was I never had an older brother only a couple of younger ones so took a few kick ins trying to protect them too. I got kicked in when I was around 11 years old by a 40 odd year old bloke! smacked my face in, but as it was a tough pit village my dad could not go to the police for obvious reasons. I was jumped on when I was around 10 or 11 by a 15 year old lad, I said something to his sister that upset her, well boom, I got a fcuking kick in. Had to be helped home by a lorry driver who stopped to pull the fornicator off me.

It was real tough we ended up moving up North because my dads mate got robbed by some 'travellers', had his house broken into and was robbed at knife point. My dads mate recognised one of the 'kids' and they went around to his house as a lot of money was stolen, my dads mate was an antiques dealer. Well it kicked off and they threatened my dad. At the time my old man worked at International Harvesters in Donny so he made a load of pointers and hid some under his pillow and around the house. It got too bad so we had to move out of Donny. It was in everyones blood, my kid brother grew up with sticky fingers and ended up mixing with the wrong crowd, robbing to make a few quid here and there. Ended up inside and was taken out in a wooden box. It was all covered up, I remember at the inquest no one heard anything. The fcuking slimey prison governor walked away clean. To this day (died in 89) dont know the real facts, In court no one would talk.

Its chilling when you live on the wrong side of the fence, born with a wooden spoon in your mouth. Kids in the late 70's and early 80's didnt fight with knives and guns, you generally got a kick in and a slap each time you passed them on the street, there was no such thing a gun crime or drugs even. I remember back in the very early 80's and we knew this kid who was around 20ish, he was a heroin addict and he was like a celebrity! When we saw him we used to say 'there goes that drug addict' we didnt even know what a drug addict was, but back then he was the only one I ever knew, so he was like a film star.

Ive come from the rough side and seen the rough, i used to go to school in cut down wellies for Christ sake! Roaming the street collecting fag ends to sell to your dad. Hello Mimmy.

I was Bentley til age of 7, Thorne from then on. To say you Thorne was an escape says it all about Bentley. But they were more honest places then. Hard but more fair, now less fair, more dangerous.

I used to work as a teenager opposite Harvesters at Crompton Lighting, my Dad was at Bentley from 67 til it shut, my Grandad before him did 40 years.

i think the problem with the majority of fellas these days is the fact, if you ain't a hard nut your treated like a mug.most can't have a straightener so you need to use a tool or blade to win.theres a bit of kudos in being known as a nutter and prison really ain't as hard as it should be.millions of kids think they're gangsters and just don't give a shite.

Yeah I see it. I ain't saying these guys can't fight and aren't a handful they just don't seem to be anything particularly special really. As mentioned above, there are blokes like this in every town.
That taxman bloke described himself as the strongest man in England! Yeah, alright.

Hearing shit like that just makes me question every single thing they come out with.

I remember that Taxman bloke talking about how much he used to earn etc how he ran the area etc
Next thing he is in his top of the range car ( average, everyday run of the mill 4x4 if I remember right ) talking about tobacco runs and doubling his few grand on a trip! Cue pulling up to his gangster pad...yep you guessed it, three bed semi in an average north east estate. My effing house is probably worth double!

The hype, books, shows etc are their biggest "success". Says it all really. I used to get a couple of books bought for me nearly every Christmas and birthday, think it's because I bought a Reggie Kray book back when I as about 13 and the family picked up on it

I do still read books on crime but have moved on to the likes of the Mexican cartels. Now these guys do genuinely run things and surprisingly they prefer a fleet of brand new motors, helicopters, boats and sprawling estates to clapped 4x4's, quads and semis/terraced houses on council estates

A complete crock of shit. I know Lee Harrison of Hooligan X, he said Duffy was tough but a total bully, pubs or clubs would empty of normal folk when he arrived as he was known to do the old "pick a victim". A guy up my way, John Simmy Simpson, now dead, was the same, except he used to slash folk instead of punching them.

Killing Pablo is a good book if you're looking for one on Escobar. Its fascinating to see the depths of how deep his network ran and how much power one man was afforded purely on drugs and violence.

As for the NE, shame about Denton but inevitable when you decide to walk that side of the road. Same with Viv Graham & Lee Duffy, although Duffy was just a cowardly thug & oxygen thief. I was working the doors in the early/mid 90's & remember Duffy glassing another bouncer. He shook his hand as he was leaving, waited for bouncer to turn his back then smashed a glass into his face. Real tough guy eh?

Another NE boxer who is sailing close to the wind ATM is the talented Glenn Foot.
Rumours that he has got in a feud with another local "family", filled one in and as a result has a career threatening machete wound to his arm. Maybe someome on the forum can shed more light on this.

Heard the same. Happened about a week before Christmas day. I heard he admitted himself to hospital with injuries to his hand and a 3" machete wound to his arm. Nothing concrete, just rumours I've heard.

I know Tom; I was joking; a lad I was at school with was a nutter with a stanley knife, a lovely lad apart from that! I was best mates with his brother. It seemed to be a phase around Doncaster and Yorkshire in general - a football thing; he grew out of it, he got slashed up as well. An awful thing, he'd cut people over a funny glance.

It's the best thing to do, saves the knuckles

No way, that's a bad way to sort out problems.
An awful thing, he'd cut people over a funny glance.[/quote]

Glad you were joking. I was involved in it all as a teenager, sick of the sight of flapping cheeks by the time I was 18. Simmy would go in a pub and spit on the floor, whoever stood on it got it. Sick man. Took around 30 Valium a day. He'd have beat Lee Duffy in a fight in a container on a tanker though
