Fair enough. I'd had my eye on Lacy for a while and knew he had no boxing IQ. Not to be cruel but he was never going to be anything at all in historic terms.

Lack of rivals?
It's a good question and I think it's because while at his peak he looked incredible - his shot selection and poise were something else - his peak was so short-lived. He was never the same fighter after Honeyghan and McCallum finished him off. Watch his fight with McCrory if you want to see how special he was in his prime though:

I don't think many have actually taken the question on board.

good list and add Robinson and didn't Vic Andreeti beat Joe Brown as well? He was way past his prime but was a terrific boxer in his pomp.

Yep, anything other than saying Sugar Ray, Benny Leonard or Durán is nuts, imo.

I mean... FFS... It's Sugar Ray Robinson, Benny Leonard & Roberto Durán, not Mikkel Fvcking Kessler or a post-"I've been knocked cold by Glen Johnson"-era RJJ.

The era of the fighter is irrelevant, the RJJ win is up there (maybe top 5) going off the way the question was posed.

You are wrong almost beyond comprehension.

How was Roy Jones the 'best' at anything in 2008, aged 40, coming off a series of losses?

If the corpse of Roy Jones is in the UK's 'top 5 finest wins' then we should burn down our boxing gyms.

The thread is the biggest name that a Brit beat. It says so in the thread starter post. Doesn't matter if they wheeled Jake La Motta out the old folks home and whooped his ass. Just as long as it was sanctioned. It counts!

Does 50% of posters not read the OP :witzend: :KO:

The questions basically, name your pound for pound top fighter a brit has defeated,as in how would they be remembred historically in the boxing archives

I think we can all agree Robinson is number 1 but its interesting to see some of the other names British boxers have beaten over the years, some i never knew(Ezzard Charles,Benny Leornard)

Im not on about performances or defeating fighters a shadow of their former selves, just what names stand the test of time regardless how they performed in one fight

Hold your horses.

That's the exact opposite of the thread title: 'Who was the best fighter a Brit ever beat?'

If it's the best fighter a Brit ever beat, a 40 year old Roy Jones doesn't belong there.

If it's the biggest name a Brit ever beat, that's a different matter. But it's not Roy Jones either way, and it's certainly a pointless discussion if it's a contest of names. Who gives a crap about washed up old men?

Whatever, not my fault if the original poster is retarded.

I'm being told to read by the semi-literate now? Hey, you wrote a sentence without the C-word for once, well done.

I read the thread title. Not my fault the text then goes on to ask a completely different question. I'm not going to trawl through three pages and 60+ posts just to check whether someone's faculties are sound.

What's to lose? I answered the thread title.

Go quote your bible. Say some prayers for Tyson Fury tomorrow.

You don't have to trawl through three pages, just the opening post. It is usually common practice when opening a thread to read the first post to see what it's about.

Lloyd Honeyghan v Don Curry in 86 was the last time I can think of an English fighter compromising the Top 10 Pound 4 Pound ranks.

Curry was seen at that time as almost unbeatable with McCrory, Jones and Starling victories.

Curry was unbeaten when Honeyghan beat him, had won his last 2 fights in 2 rounds each and was only 9 months from when he destroyed Mcrory to unify the title. Tysuzu was also a hot favourite against Hatton and certainly want shot.
Tysuz grew old that night, what did he do after ?
Is Honeyghan the only one then
