True but i also don't think Ward ever really hurt Froch. He was a massively clear winner but even in that fight Froch improved towards the latter rounds. He's got unreal stamina. I remember the build up to Kessler 2 saying he's kept a book of timed runs and weights etc ever since he started boxing and at 35 (at the time) he was breaking all his records. He's a freak.
Ward had a damaged right hand. I think he would stop Froch next time. There won't be a next time, because Froch has showed no real interest in getting back in the ring with him. Wise move.
Ward would dominate Carl in a re-match and win on points again which is the reason Froch shows no interest. I really can't see Ward being able to stop Carl. He's been hit hard and clean by Kessler, Groves and Johnson who all hit harder and survived so I just can't see Ward stopping him.

Ward vs anyone has little appeal to boxing fans. He is just bad entertainment. Winning and entertaining do not always go hand in hand.

I'd rather watch a giant Elmo fight someone.

In the last fight, Groves boxed well for the first 5 rounds and scored a knockdown, yet was still behind on the judges scorecards after 8 rounds...

Will the same biase towards Froch happen again if it does go the distance? Or will the judges purposefully be mindful not to be in Froch's favour due to the backlash of the early stoppage first time around? Therefore be biased towards Groves.

Or, will they just be completely fair and score it correctly......... Nah.

Anyways, I'm thinking Froch late stoppage again, but it who knows really. We know how Froch will fight, what will Groves's gameplan be this time around? Will the judges score fairly? Will Groves gas? Ball is in Groves's court in my opinion, with good tactics he can win, however, if he is stupid aain and gets all brave trying to trade, Froch will win.

To be fair, that is funny.

Looking back at my posts, I think I am being overly harsh on Froch, and I want to backtrack a bit. I was a bit harsh because I feel Groves was a little bit cheated by the ref and not given the chance to fight back.

Froch is a superb fighter, no doubt about that and he has given me a lot of pleasure over a number of years. The fact that there are so many different opinions on the outcome of the first fight sets us up nicely for a genuingley mouth watering rematch.

RE: Ward. I actually would like to see this rematch.Ward, who is sublime, won fair and square, but Froch was coming on very strong in the last couple of rounds and I'd like to see it happen again, if any adjustments could be made.

I see a similar fight playing out, the only difference is Froch will respect Groves this time around, not take the hard shots early on & get a late stoppage.

Hopefully the ref lets George get battered so there can be no debate about it afterwards. Last time around the referee did him a favour stopping him from getting sparked & maintaining interest for the rematch.

In a sense, Howard Foster has made Matchroom, Froch and Groves a helluva lota money!

Good points all.

With regards the ref, my fear is someone is going to get their head unscrewed in the rematch.

I hope both corners have their towels ready, because let's be honest, it will unlikely be the referee stopping anything this time.

Without changing the subject, I fear the rematch will be ruined by god awful-presenters & commentators, inc Haling and Watt.

Haye was actually a great studio pundit I felt - and why not let Andy Scott have a punt ?

Agree, after being there live, I Couldn't believe how bad and one-sided the commentary was when i watched it back. I think Sky have good pundits in the studio but poor commentators at the moment.

And yeah whoever refs the rematch will have a constant voice in his head telling him not to stop the fight or he'll suffer the same stick Foster got

I see a different Froch in this fight. He will be in the shape of his life and will put on a Bute style destruction of Groves.

He was not expecting what came last time, but now he knows and more importantly McCracken knows and will plan accordingly.

People are saying that Froch does not possess the one punch power to trouble Groves and I can see this to some extent, but he is heavy handed and when he starts landing those shots he will have more than enough to force a stoppage.

War Frochy.

He's 36, physically he's years past his peak and he's too slow to land enough on Groves to bomb him out early. He knew exactly what to expect, Groves told him the whole game plan in the press conference. He's not the type to hold back in training, maybe mentally he wasn't quite prepared, but there's no questioning whether he was in shape physically, he's written everything down that he's done in training for the past 10 years, he knows better than anyone what stage he should be at and when, to be unprepared would be completely unprofessional and that's the one thing he's never been.

I think Froch is delusional enough to forget that and will be all pumped up and then shocked when he starts getting the crap kicked out of him again. Groves is all wrong for him.

People talk about Froch's come from behind win against Taylor, but people forget that Pavlik had already taken care of Taylor in 7 rounds and then again in the rematch.
I think you are forgetting froch got the stoppage, and regardless of the early call the vast majority on this site thought groves was finished anyway.
If you read the posts from the night of the fight, there was outrage that it had been stopped. Also, if you watch the 9th round, it was a burst from Froch, which he might not have been able to sustain and Groves was firing back and looked pretty switched on to me when arguing with the ref about the stoppage.

I think Froch is going to prepare diligently, as he always does, will be spurred on by his home crowd like he was against Bute and go out with real intent and then get his clock cleaned, good and proper.
There was a poll on here after the fight i cant remember the exact figures but it was something like 70%+ thought froch would have stopped groves.

Froch aint getting any younger and the punches he took the last fight probably aged him another 5 years, if groves had jumped on him after the 1st knockdown i doubt carl would of got through the round so groves early this time for me.

it would be nice to know how hurt groves actually was in that ninth round! Maybe if we knew the answer to this we could make a better prediction because Groves was always going to say it was an early stoppage thats been his golden ticket to get this rematch. I think if Groves was as hurt as i believed he was in that ninth round he will fight Froch simular to how he fought Degale and see him taking it on points.

The results of the poll are quite telling.

Most people backing Groves to win see him knocking Froch out early to mid rounds, or taking a points win, few back him for the late KO. On the other side, Froch appears to need the KO to win and if he gets it, it will be mid to late rounds, not many appear to like his chances if it goes the distance.

No major surprises then. I'd say thats about right and its pretty much how i'm reading the fight.

I think Groves has a shot at stopping Froch during the first half of the fight, if not then i think he wins this by UD. He may go for it early but he will know he must conserve energy for the latter part of the fight, i dont see him being foolish enough to over excert himself early.

SamWise72 wrote:I've nailed my colours elsewhere, but I'll do it here as well. Groves comes in with a monkey on his back, trying to refind his confidence after being blasted all over the ring in the last round. He knew he was on his way to being stopped, he'd never been hit so hard before, and now he's scared of everything; scared of overdoing it and gassing, scared of getting caught big, scared that his career is gonna get ended. He's more cautious and safety first as a result, takes the early rounds boxing cautiously, but without really causing Froch any trouble. Froch, not hampered by recovering from a knockdown or from Groves making free with the right hand, takes over sooner, he's clearly grinding Groves down from around the 5th onward, and finishes Groves around the same time he did last time, but more clearly. Froch has one more big fight and retires, Groves struggles to rebuild his career after back to back stoppages.
If Groves is so scared why was he so desperate for the rematch? He could still make decent money fighting the likes of Stieglitz, why would he want to fight a guy he thinks will knock him out and ruin his career? It just doesn't make sense...
I think its more like he took Carls shots and didn't go down so all he needs to do is the same as the first fight but pace the fight correctly and spoil Carls work, Carl cant outbox him (Groves isn't Abraham) and as everyone else has said he's slower, I don't see what his advantages are besides stamina and experience.

lets look at the psychology of this fight; last time out george groves DID get under the skin of carl froch. wont happen this time. froch didn't know what to expect in the first fight. he'll have a better idea of it this time. tactically McCracken and froch will be sussed to what groves might bring. froch almost certainly cant be worse than last time and I'm pretty sure groves wont be better than he was in that fight. groves lost the first one after he had froch down and badly hurt. that's got to be rattling around in GG's psyche. just a historical thought; it is not often that rematches swing the other way. this all points to carl froch winning easier than in the first bout.

Well, Eubank stopped Benn in the first fight and most people would say that Benn won the rematch.Their hatred of each other never let up.It looks to be the same with Froch and Groves. I think it is going to be a hell of a fight again.Really looking forward to it.

GG has already got under Carls skin as far as I can see with all the "rematch or retire" talk and all the rest that has happened since the first fight, Carl giving personal insults like a school boy shows he's wound up. The only person who knows how badly hurt GG was is... GG everything else is speculation. Tactically GG told them both what he was going to do, they must have had some sort of plan for it.

I thought benn won the rematch too - I think chris has admitted it years too late! but for me this is not the same situation as that. in my view froch will have learned enough from the first to make sure of an uncontroversial win this time. but if he loses...its time to say goodnight

I think it depends how ingrained any stamina issues are for Groves. If he can manage to correctly pace himself I think he can win by 115-112 at least.

froch by ko...a bit earlier than last time.
groves chin is still suspect, and this time froch wont take half the punishment he did in the first fight. groves hit froch with everything last time , and froch came through it like the terminator. both groves and froch know that froch is gonna eat him up like pacman. ( hagler said that after he stopped hearns)
