Who said I "went to the mods?" When did I say that? And, even if I did, how is "going to the mods" about vulgar comments the equivalent or worse than the vulgar comment itself?Bobbyptsd wrote:If you want to ameliorate the level of discourse, you might want to do the part you can by keeping to a certain standard yourself. I'm not saying you aren't, but you'll be hard pressed to have an effect on others, especially going the mod route.raylawpc wrote:And that means we shouldn't tone it down? Don't you think it would be nice if they were hard pressed to see it here? Lots of times, if you google a boxer's name, etc. these threads appear. This isn't a "gentlemen's club." It is a public forum.Bobbyptsd wrote:While I don't agree with the vulgar insult he originally threw out there, it's more than a little silly to get up on a soapbox and yell: "I'm going to the mods, we need to think of the children!"
If kids are on Boxrec, they would be hard pressed to open any random thread and not see vulgarity, let's not get carried away here.
And I know it's a public forum. A public forum frequented mostly by men, based around the topic of a violent sport. Again, a little perspective goes a long way. We could try to not be too vulgar, sure. But I think it's important not to get carried away, considering the above.

Re: Gerry Cooney vs. Joe Frazier
Nobody said you did. I started the whole thing by telling you " that it wasn't a good idea", after you chastised me for my comment to Saad, and said that you had made a complaint. Other's may have misconstrued and thought you actually DID go to the mods. In either case, I deleted my comment to appease you, and will try to be more careful in the future. But as others have already mentioned, this is a forum that is most commonly frequented by grown men, who are discussing a contact sport. Every once in a while guys are going to get on each other's nerves, throw around a few insults, and yes even drop the "F" bomb. While I agree that its not ideally appropriate, its going to happen.. While children sometimes do land on these boards, it is also the responsibility of their PARENTS to monitor what they are doing, and if need be, limit their internet privilages. Its not worth starting a campaign over.Who said I "went to the mods?" When did I say that? No. 1: When I said I complained, I meant I've complained to the person who could only express himself with a vulgarity. No. 2: I was responding to Bobby, not you. No. 3: I am not planning to start a campaign, but I will continue to urge people to keep it clean.drunkenpiper36 wrote:Nobody said you did. Vulgarity isn't "ideally appropriate." Does that mean it is "un-ideally appropriate" at some level?

Frankly, I think its a topic best dropped. I'm certainly not going to lose sleep over it and you shouldn't either.

@raylawpc
In response to your question, you said you had made a complaint. I think it's reasonable to assume that you meant to the mods, unless you meant yelling out your window or something.
And in light of what I said, I think it's clear that going the mod route isn't productive in this instance. I don't know if it's worse or not, whatever that means.

"Going the mods route isn't productive" in any instance because the mods don't ever do anything.Bobbyptsd wrote:@raylawpc

I just came on and saw that a mod had gotten rid of someone who was being disruptive, I think you're exaggerating a fair bit.raylawpc wrote:"Going the mods route isn't productive" in any instance because the mods don't ever do anything.Bobbyptsd wrote:@raylawpc

The mods don't get involved every time someone uses a vulgar word or there's a bit of an argument, I suspect for reasons I've already been over.

That Danconnolly chap got banned for his nonsense. Minutes before I read your earlier post, ironically enough.

This fight is a MISMATCH. Smokin Joe would be punished not by Gerry Cooney, but by law enforcement Anderson
