Another small Mickey Duff story. In 1958 Mickey had arranged a show in Liverpool which was to be shown live on the BBC. Top of the bill, and the only reason the BBC took the show, was Dave Charnley fighting Jimmy Croll. A few days before Charnley was ill with a heavy cold/flu. Dave told his manager Arthur Boggis that he couldn't fight. Duff almost collapsed. He begged Charnley to fight, and Dave eventually agreed but only if he got a bonus. The fight went ahead and Charnley was very poor. Afterwards, in the dressing room, Boggis brought in the purse and Dave asked about the bonus. Boggis went back out to Duff and came back with a 'dinner service' , yes small plates, big plates, soup plates etc.
That night Charnley was taken by ambulance from his hotel to the local A & E.

IN 1995, at Dave's 60th birthday party, Duff was a guest. Charnley's brother, William, was telling others about the 'dinner service' story and Duff responded , 'Well you can get a discount on a dinner service, can't you !!! "

I'd have sitting interviewing Duff for a couple of hours.
