It's amazing how much smaller Samuelsson was back then when he first started.
Interestingly I had no idea until I rewatched that video a few weeks back that Nathan Jones ended up in WWE and also was in the film 'Troy.' He only had a brief roll as Boagrius who Achilles kills very close to the start of the film. Jouko Ahola who won Worlds strongest man in 97 and 99 also had a brief roll in the film Kingdom of Heaven.

The World's Strongest Man competitions are great viewing. Before I got into boxing they were my favorite thing on TV.

It's a crying shame they aren't on mainstream tv now. They must have surely got good figures so why they were dropped by the BBC I don't know.

Ahola was also in the tv series The Vikings, although I think he was killed off in series 1.

I genuinely watched it and just quite surprised that his core strength was below what I would expect from a man of that size, weight and competing in a sport where strength matters.
I feel it matters less with some fighters than others (great skill can negate the need for great strength) but with his slightly limiting skills and stamina, strength matters. Also felt it was relevant as he is using weights in his training hence the clip so his team clearly see the value of incorporating strength training which made it more surprising for me.
Did not come here to brag about my lift in comparison, that was just an added bonus

Find the bucket.
We all know Tyson has not got the power he thinks he has.
If he had the opportunity to do so, and he caught Klitchko clean and flush, I doubt he would go down in a mess to be honest.

Now he struggled to pull that up and I appreciate he is not a weight lifter or power lifter but come on, that is pretty poor.
I can do 220kg and I am not a power lifter either oh and I am 5ft 7" and weighed just under 11st when I lifted that last year and I am 40 years old!
And the pussy used straps to assist his grip!!
Anyway, who do you guys have winning the fight?
Where's your video, pal?

There pal. I do not have the 220kg videoed as I do not record every lift. But 200kg at 72kg as I was there is ok. Now where is yours?
Crap form by me but I got it up.
But like I said originally I know he is not a weight lifter but I just find his strength is poor for a man of his size. In seriousness I watch him in fights and find he does not push people around with the authority I would expect which is why his fights get messy and untidy.
Fury is in training camp running and sparring 12 rounds with heavies 3 days a week......hes not just concentrating his efforts on doing weights 3 days a week......

It's one of those funny exercise s possibly the most unusual.anyone free of back problems and able to avoid rounding their back who does this exercise consistently for 6 months would be up to 150kg,those heavier and naturally stronger 180-200.220 is a very good lift.
Those who don't deadlift,have back problems,would struggle with 120 like I do.yet I bench 137.5 for two reps at a weight of 10st 13
Fury has a boxers world class stamina too.he probably does three hours catabolic cardio a day he's not a weightlifter/powerlifter so imo 220 is great

It is a surprisingly good lift. I would imagine the dead lift features regularly in his gym workouts. For higher reps it's probably one of the best all-round exercises you can do. I wouldn't imagine even powerhouses like Lewis and Wlad went any heavier. In boxing terms it probably doesn't mean much more than he's a deceptively strong guy.

Terrible comments on this thread giving Fury a hard time about how much weight he can lift.
If you do hard rounds on the pads and then have to do weights you cannot lift as much as you can if you are fresh. Also he is not a weigh lifter but a boxer, who cares what he bench presses?!

I'd shi t him!

Well if he can deadlift 500 pounds at being nearly 7'0" then he is alot stronger than you think. I recall tales of Wilt Chamberlain doing 500 pound bench presses, and with his long arms it pretty much defied the laws of physics. Generally speaking it is usually shorter, more compact guys who can lift that kind of weight. The taller, longer of reach, someone is the more strenuous it is.

he's a boxer not a weight lifter ,, The only strenghth he needs is to be able to punch for 12 rnds , whilst moving and being hit , Heavweights his size don't need to be building up to the size of the worlds greatest power lifter , they would be better off worrying about the feet , the movement , the faster jab , the timing , ect ect ,
Bulking up to a muscle bound power lifter is the last thing he needs to do

The dead lift is just a good all-over strength exercise. You don't have to be a bodybuilder or a weight lifter to get some benefit. I do it to help my cycling. It's hardly worth so much thread coverage. A bit of general ignorance on display.

Certain weight training excercises do not add on bulk as much as you think, but instead add strength. Deadlifts, in particular, maximizes your entire body and therefore the weightlifting is distributed throughout the body rather evenly. Static lifts, such as these, in moderation will only make you stronger, faster, and contribute overall to stamina and conditioning. Same can be said of clean and jerk style lifts.

Yes there is, you either get it up with good form, you get it up with bad form, or you don't get it up..
