I also concur with the dude above who mentioned Kell's head movement, or rather, his lack of head movement. He gets away with it until he gets tired & cannot skitter away to safety. Then he gets nailed.
He doesn't move his head after he punches, either, the line of his chin if you like is always in the same place. A clever bloke who can time him will take his head off, but I don't think anyone needs to worry about Porter timing him, I'd be more worried about the little bastard marching forward all night whacking him around the lug-hole.
It's on a knife-edge for me, this one.

It'll definitely be interesting while it lasts. I think Brook will hold his own in the first half but I see him getting stopped by 8.

I assumed Lacy hadn't just busted up a few tomato cans on his way to Manchester. Opinion on that fight was split down the middle. If I'm ignorant then don't forget to include the several thousands who were out there saying Joe was about to get knocked out! (of which I was never one).......a lot like there's a lot running around now saying that Brook's gonna get flattened by this fella that I am told was on the end of a 23-4 amateur mauling by Degale. (I've already dismissed that result ^^ as having much relevance at this stage however.)Datsue wrote:magwitch wrote:Is he? Really? I seem to remember Lacy had some respect coming over. Don't think this Porter guy is streets ahead of him - althought the gap in ability stands to be far smaller in this fight for sure - largely on account of how good Calzaghe was.Lenny wrote:The thing is this isn't Calzaghe v Lacy. The American puncher this time round is more proven and regardless of excuses, Brook had his toughest fight against a similar style of fighter at a lower level.
I'll be cheering on Brook for sure and be hoping he does have those extra gears we keep hearing about.
Who knows, Brook might be about to lay on a masterclass too..
Porter is ten times more proven than Lacy. You're making yourself look silly here.
Who did Lacy ever beat that was on the level of a 27 year old Devon Alexander, pray? & don't say fvcking mid-thirties Robin Reid, FFS.
Brook, OTOH, is about a trillion times less proven than Calzaghe (even the safely-matched WBO-Only version), & a great deal less proven than Porter.
It's a great, well-matched fight. Talking shite about it out of ignorance doesn't make it any better.
Re: IBF title will be in British hands come Sunday
Isn't DeGale an Olympic gold medalist who is boxing next for a world title at 12 stone? I'd say boxing him as an amateur at middle and then winning a world title at 10 and a half stone shows he's pretty good. Did Brook do anything comparable?

Kell has got to get Porter's respect early if he can IMO as the fcuker is going
To try rushing him from the first bell. A Stiff authoritive jab is the way to go and try to catch him with heavy stuff on the way in because when Showtime gets on the inside the fcuker will be so strong and Kell is not a great infighter, far from it. I would love to see Kell win but I just feel Porter will be abit to much of a beast for him & will stop him late as Kell tires..Shawn has just won the belt and can probably smell a possible Mayweather shot and the $$$$ that will bring - It will take an almighty performance from Kell especially away from home to take that from him...wish him all the best.

Re: IBF title will be in British hands come Sunday
You disputed whether Porter is more proven than Lacy was, and if you examine who they'd beaten heading into the comparable bouts I don't see how you could conclude that Porter isn't more proven given his last two wins. That many people thought Lacy would win doesn't affect whether he had proven more in the ring; it means that numerous people were wrong.I assumed Lacy hadn't just busted up a few tomato cans on his way to Manchester. And if you've dismissed the result to Degale (no one in this thread told you it was a mauling), who is far, far bigger than Brook and an Olympic champion, why mention it?

I think Kell's jab is the key to this fight. If he gets it going from the first bell and stops Porter from getting inside then he will win!

Graham Houston has an extensive prediction on his site. He's going with Brook:

I'm very excited for this fight. I think it will be entertaining and it should answer long-standing questions about how Brook, who generally looks very good against second and third tier opponents, performs at a higher level.

because since I tuned into the first Brook-Porter thread about 2 weeks ago it was full of comments such as "Porter will take Brook's head off" on account of what a dangerous, fantastic puncher he is. I guess we'll find out shortly.crusader wrote:You disputed whether Porter is more proven than Lacy was, and if you examine who they'd beaten heading into the comparable bouts I don't see how you could conclude that Porter isn't more proven given his last two wins. Re: IBF title will be in British hands come Sunday
Also I'd say 23-4 is a little bit of a mauling, personally.
Re: IBF title will be in British hands come Sunday
Really looking forward to this fight. I see Brook looking on this topic now (passing the time)
come on Kell. Please stop Porter

Re: IBF title will be in British hands come Sunday
Then it seems like you haven't dismissed the result. Amateur scores often don't reflect the competitiveness of the bouts, so I wouldn't say Porter was mauled without seeing the bout.because since I tuned into the first Brook-Porter thread about 2 weeks ago it was full of comments such as "Porter will take Brook's head off" on account of what a dangerous, fantastic puncher he is. Porter was absolutely rubbish. I saw his wildness in the Malignani fight but i thought hed be better than that
All that buzzsaw moveement, dude should learn how to throw a straight punch
Well done Kell Brook. Opens up many possibilities

Yes I also thought he looked a bit technically "rough around the edges" shall we say. Each time you get the next American big deal the lure is just too strong for some people to resist though. "Lacy was nothing but this Porter -he's a different league - gonna destroy Brook". Chicken Little comes to mind.lefthook82 wrote:Porter was absolutely rubbish. Re: IBF title will be in British hands come Sunday
Porter did far better than Lacy did and many thought Brook would win or be competitive. The believe that Porter would destroy him was not the consensus in my view.
Several posters also predicted that Brook would dominate and win by stoppage, so wrong predictions were common on both ends. Lacy-Calzaghe is a largely overused comparison and it's use typically irks me; it often leads people to evaluate fights between a hyped foreigner and underdog Brit based on that fight (Lacy-Cal) rather than the particularities of the fighters competing in the upcoming or hypothetical bout.

It's on a knife-edge for me, this one.
Johnny Nelson retired an undefeated world champion for nearly 6 years.
Kell Brook, cool, calm and collected beats "Skittering" Shawn Porter.

Fair summation mate.
I'm totally made up for Kell, but the crowing from some of the partisan is overlooking flaws which are still there, imo.
However, as they've had to deal with trolls & Horse in the protracted build-up, I shall let their enthusiasm, brio & knack of picking the wrong people to do their little victory dance in front of go. I will say that lumping neutrals in with their enemies is a bit paranoid, though, & not going to help them spread the love in future.
