Danny Green the best thing in Aussie Boxing Since Kostya
Re: Danny Green the best thing in Aussie Boxing Since Kostya
He nearly died of dehydration after the Sullivan (a tough Kiwi, certainly not world class) fight. He beat Delisle (who was a very good amateur boxer who I believe may have beaten Green in the amateurs, certainly not world class). He was robbed the first Beyer fight and got pumped in the second by the only fighter you have named that was world class. I may not be a Danny Green fan, but I respect his job in the ring. And just like you, I own "The Fight Game"...

Whats the fight game got to do with it ? I own a mundine shirt..just like you. And I think I have a higher opinion of Greens opponents than you do. Delisle was better than just a very good amatuer !!Lairdy wrote:He nearly died of dehydration after the Sullivan (a tough Kiwi, certainly not world class) fight. I was just pointing out 1 fact about De Lisle. He was a good pro as well. But someone to use the names of De Lisle and Sullivan while trying to tell someone that Danny Green is this "great", is retarded!amwsnw wrote:Whats the fight game got to do with it ? Fair enough. But why would you even come on a thread like this mentioning them names. Your comment is out of context with the name of this thread man. A bit of ignorance maybe?...amwsnw wrote:Being ignorant of other peoples posts is the most "retraded" thing that happens on this site. I never said Green was great.

COMPARING long-time arch-rival Anthony Mundine to a nagging ex-wife who will not leave him alone, WBA light-heavyweight world champion Danny Green says he has already moved on.
Green yesterday announced the first defence of his WBA title would take place on April 27 at Challenge Stadium in Perth, against mandatory challenger Hugo Garay.
And with the legendary Roy Jones Jr a possible target for Green if he gets past the 27-year-old Argentine, a possible rematch with Mundine was not something the talkative Perth champion was willing to spruik.
"Choc is a bit like an ex-wife who is still screaming out after getting a big pay-out," Green said. "He is still throwing insults after a getting a big pay-out. I have moved on, I have remarried, I have got the world championship - I have got bigger and better things to think about.
"Really, he pales in comparison to the opponents we are talking about if and when I get through Hugo Garay.
"He beat me in the fight, fair and square, and that is cool and that is history. But he has got to really prove himself worthy of this world title. I am the world champion - he has never won a legitimate world title, he has never beaten a legitimate world champion. There has always been someone above him."
As talk of a second bout between the pair intensified this year, so has the squabbling, with Mundine comparing Green to a live chicken and Green criticising Mundine's recruitment of banned AFL star Ben Cousins to promote his WBA super-middleweight defence against Nader Hamdan.
The West Coast Eagles fan said Cousins was Mundine's "puppet" for appearing in the "KO on Drugs" promotion and agreeing to fight on the undercard. The Brownlow medallist later pulled out of the bout.
At the Hamdan weigh-in on Tuesday, Mundine stepped up the verbals against Green. "I already whipped him once, I'll spank him again. They may think he's gay. He might be in the Mardi Gras this week because I'm sick of tapping that arse," Mundine said.
Green said the assumption he wanted to fight Mundine again was a hasty one. "I obviously want to fight him? That is your assumption," he said. "If he comes dressed to the weigh-in like Charlie Chaplin, with those straps on and a misplaced moustache on his forehead, I am not sure I would stop myself laughing.
"He needs some new material, it is getting boring and no one really finds it funny."
There had been a suggestion locally Green might even have been able to secure his next bout against Jones Jr, a former multiple world champion at light-heavyweight and super-middleweight. But the WBA has ruled Garay, who has a record of 30 wins and three losses, as mandatory challenger, leaving Green with no choice.
"I am not really disappointed because this is what I have to do," Green said "I am not going to duck anyone, and this proves it."

It doesn't matter how many times I read the heading for this thread... It still makes me cringe!
Re: Danny Green the best thing in Aussie Boxing Since Kostya
True. Look at the article I posted above wins a title in the most boring(some say fixed) title fight in history. Brags about it saying Mundine beat him fair and square(2 years after they fought didn't realise he was weight drained until his retirement)saying he has to earn his shot at his title. Say's he doesn't mind the WBA making him face the mandatory Garay because he won't duck anyone and this proves it. Then goes into a fake retirement(ducking Garay).Lairdy wrote:It doesn't matter how many times I read the heading for this thread... It still makes me cringe!

Their historical standings are about even IMO. Slight edge to Anthony seeing as he won the only fight between the two. Neither are all time greats, but neither are bums.

Neither are greats, neither are bums, correct. But in ability and sportsmanship, Mundine is miles ahead.thunderfromdownunder wrote:Their historical standings are about even IMO. The only attribute that Green would be equal to Mundine, is as a businessman.thunderfromdownunder wrote:Their historical standings are about even IMO. Slight edge to Anthony seeing as he won the only fight between the two. Neither are all time greats, but neither are bums.

Danny Greeny did have a lot of fans, mainly casual fans/rugby league fans. It could be said that these fans weren't very educated on the sport of boxing and easily fooled by constant talk of "4 times world champion in 3 different weight divisions/punchers as hard as a heavyweight" talk. I believe true boxing fans know the score with fighters like Danny Greeny and Anthony Mundine. For the record I rate Mundine as the better boxer then Greeny as was proven in their 2006 fight.
Thoughts ?

Agreed, Mundine proved that he is a much better boxer than Green.Francis75 wrote:Danny Greeny did have a lot of fans, mainly casual fans/rugby league fans. Has Green officially announced his retirement or is he doing what Kostya did
