I think too much is made of age in boxing at times. Some guys naturally bloom (not quite the word i was looking for) later than others a bit like Froch possibly and some are completely shot by the time they're 30/31 like Juan manuel Lopez or even younger. Regarding the fight, i'd have to go with with Soliman based on the form line and the fact Taylor looked finished about 5 years ago which doesnt help things.
is this the guy that starched Daniel Ponce De Leon in a round about 5 years ago? Been meaning to look him up.....

Exactly mate. It wasnt supposed to be taken literally and like expe also said that term is used for primarily these days and particularily in the context of how I said it when somebody is being stupid. It has nothing to do with somebody being disabled. Obviously when the term is used in reference to disability then of course it's vile.
That's your perception. A lot of people who aren't Ben Stiller fans still use that, and other words, correctly.
You're childish pettiness is getting boring now. I'm just going to put you on ignore.

Why is it vile?

It used to be okay, but now it's not. It's stupid.

Being retarded is not a good thing. Whatever new names they come up with for it are going to be used as insults.
I believe the word spastic, as in Spastics Society, got phased out as idiots started using it as an insult. When the word on its own actually wasn't intended as an insult at all. Not having a go at anyone here, but perhaps there is a lesson in there somewhere?

It's the insult that is bad, not the word.

I agree. It's always unacceptable. "Spacker" and "Spaz" became too common. Now people are advocating "retard" as acceptable to mean stupid. I had a mate when I was about 11, secondary school, quiet, nice lad....someone called him "spacker" in PE one day and he went ballistic. We hadn't known each other more than a year or so as it was secondary school. Lad had a brother who was physically and mentally disabled, I believe, which nobody knew, and it really upset him to hear the word "spacker". Course expe's not at school anymore......

A bit OT, but I'm pretty sure the Black Eyed Peas song "Let's Get It Started" was originally recorded (and I believe released in the US) as "Let's Get Retarded", presumably meaning to get wasted. It's not a word I'd ever use, but it's all about context.

The trouble with using retard as a synonym for stupid, is that some disabled people have to live with others considering them stupid due to their disability. This means the context isn't always clear, I suspect the 'fun' of using the word is this blurred meaning.

Anyhow, pretty shocked by Taylor's attitude there!! He's a million percent shot to pieces!! I don't take offence to that, I actually feel sorry for him .

Jermain Taylor's poor, poor brain and Sam Soliman's poor, poor leg. It could be a Mice and Men sort of thing.

Much like Juan Manuel Lopez's rematch win over Daniel Poncé De Leon--which guaranteed the poor bugger got lined up for further paydays & beatings--this is the worst possible result for Taylor & what's left of his brain.

When JuanMa rallied to KO De Leon in their rematch, people cawed & crowed, going "Ooh, ye of little faith, despite obvious signs of neurological decline this proves he's fit to box! Nyaaah-nyaaaah-nyyyyyyyyyyah, safety-first crowd!"

& that "good" result for JuanMa that "proved" he was fit to box meant being fed to dudes so he could suffer two (more) brutal knockout losses. Have you seen an interview with him recently? Seen him shake after they woke him up from his last knockout loss, the tremors in his face? Or the fight before that, where he couldn't control his legs but wouldn't go down & the ref had to lead him back to his corner?

Anyway... Taylor to be fed to Quillin now, perhaps, as Haymon has a middle belt back? That's sure to do him the world of good.

PS: As for Soliman... Sigh. How's that look when you look back, Sam? You lost to a dude who already had suffered a cerebral haemorrhage. Well done.

PPS: I'm surely likely to get one antagonistic pudendum berate me for daring to start the thread, now. But still, I'll get it out of the way: I simply don't care. The result of said sporting contest don't actually matter. It's the fact that the dude's allowed to engage in such activity post-brain trauma I have a problem with. Whether or not Taylor "had enough left" to beat Soliman was beside the point, & it remains so.

Fed to Quillin now, perhaps?
Let's just hope he's not fed to GGG - that's one fight I'd actually boycott as a protest.

I doubt Haymon went to the trouble of ensuring JT could fight with half his brain hanging out to give the IBF title away.

Messrs Quillin/Jacobs on the horizon, one presumes.

That's true, it's hard to thank Al Haymon with only half a brain, although Amir Khan still manages it :OhYes:

The Quillin fight would be just horrible, I don't think I could bring myself to watch that either.

Terry Dooley wrote:Jermain Taylor, eh? The world’s foremost Egyptian white-boy beating gun-toting IBF dodgy knee beating brain addled bad boy. His heart has finally opened itself to boxing, it’s just a pity that it happened at a time when he’s not at his physical best. Taylor-Quillin sounds good to me, though. Then again, GGG’s got white skin, and no white man is going to beat Tayor Mk. 2.

As for the moral aspects, he passed his medicals and made his choice. The bleed puts things right in our faces, but the truth is that fighters are accruing damage before our eyes in every single fight. Then there’s the unseen cost of sparring—because there’s research that suggests head-guards can’t completely protect the noggin’—and all the other crap that they go through to beat each other up for our entertainment, or so that we can completely dismiss, slag off and criticise them. Whatever floats your boat.

The man made a choice, he passed the tests and won the fight. During almost every single fight we watch, we’re watching guys pick up damage. It’s only when it’s made explicit, in the form of an injury, that we care, because you have to be seen to be caring. If you really want to stop people picking up damage, campaign against boxing until it’s banned. Then they’ll smash each other up off-TV and in secret and we won’t have to be confronted with the truth of the sport every once in a while. In the meantime, let’s ditch the whole: “I’m emoting here. I’m EMOTING here!” spiel.

PS Arkansas—f*ck yeah.

I just hope he doesn’t get too excited and shoot another cousin or mess around with a TV presenter, allegedly.
Telling to note, er, Tel, that you're happy to be a snide superior pudendum about people expressing dissatisfaction with the game & what happens to human beings yet you're prepared to defend, say, Batman (or even the racial purity of James Bond) to the fvcking death.

I find your concerns about such things utterly risible. You find mine here sneerable. Fair enough. Never the twain shall meet etc. Wouldn't want to argue the point, obviously, your furrow is your own after all & mine's mine, but I find it interesting to note.

Quite apart from that, your knowing crowing appears to be predicated on the fact of his victory, which appears in your eyes to absolve anyone involved in his relicensing/promotion/current career from being a complete pudendum. Not in my fvcking eyes it don't.

& RE: the tests & passing of same; Erik Morales was allowed to take multiple (three? Four?) drug tests before he pissed clean prior to the Garcia rematch. Anything wrong with that?

After all, he passed the test & therefore everything must've been right with the world. Anything else would just be "emoting", surely?

 Absolutely.

I agree with Terry on this one in the broadest sense. The horrible thing about this is that not every 'world champion' is going to a life of after dinner speaking and a life of corporate endeavour on the back of a successful sporting career. The minute Jermain stops being a 'world champion' is the minute people stop giving a shit about him outside his family.

I agree with Datsue that he should stop and Taylor beating Soliman is going shorten his life by more than a few years, but this is Taylor's alternative lifestyle to being some bum working a normal job, I remember someone (or I read it, my brain is turning to mush also) saying that they would rather die in the ring than dying with a crushed spirit having to do some job for 40 plus hours a week until they were 65. The feeling with Jermain Taylor was there was no 'plan B' and he was going all the way with boxing until he physically can't anymore.

Dissapointing fight really,4 KD's by Taylor and none of them hurtful,2 of them dubious, maybe 3,Soliman put down with a jab for the first one and that was the only stonewaller,Jermain landed a right hand for the second one but i still think it was Sam's leg that made him fall,no punch landed whatsoever for the 3rd one and the fourth one was maybe legit athough that too was scrappy pretty much like the whole fight, cant believe people thought Taylor was dominant before the 1st KD,neither fighter was in control at that point and it was real messy but Jermain barely threw anything and when he did his timing was off,Soliman was just in front before the injury IMO,as i said there wasnt much in it but no way was either man dominating,i felt for Soliman coz he was as brave as they and never stopped trying and never moaned once, plus i was hoping he'd KO the racist twat AND its put me down the table in the PTBF

I had it 116-108 Taylor
