Go on the Instagram of EVERY prominent athlete, they all face some sort of hate from someone for something. Jon Jones. Danny Garcia. Etc etc Who cares?

Not very bright, are you? Compared to continental Europe and North America racism is negligible in the UK.
As has been demonstrated already in the thread a significant proportion of sporting heroes past and present are of ethnic and religious diversity. Closer to subject matter, ask the average white Brit for his favourite boxers over the past few decades and you'll invariably hear Lennox, Naz, Eubank, Watson, Benn, Bruno and Haye.

I'm not talking about the entire country for F sake. I'm talking about groups of people. That's all it takes in todays cyber world.Karl Jade wrote:Not very bright, are you? Compared to continental Europe and North America racism is negligible in the UK.

And to reiterate, racism is negligible in the UK compared to continental Europe and NA. Khan may receive racist abuse, but virtually none of the hatred is actually predicated on his race. Moreso the fact he's spent the past 6 or 7 years acting like a pudendum.

I made no correlation to any other country or sub-culture. I am not comparing. I am saying all it takes is handfuls of people to make a dent online.Karl Jade wrote:And to reiterate, racism is negligible in the UK compared to continental Europe and NA. Re: Amir Khan racism issue?
No. You made a preposterous sweeping statement about 'white Brits'.
Re: Amir Khan racism issue?
That's just how you interpreted it.Karl Jade wrote:No. You made a preposterous sweeping statement about 'white Brits'.
Re: Amir Khan racism issue?
It left absolutely no scope for alternative interpretation.

Curious....wasn't Prince Hamed Saudi? Can't remember...
To be honest, I don't really think or care about what race boxers are. Kind of silly when you think about it, but there are a lot of racist people in the US, and other countries.

Really couldn't care less. Pakistanis are some of the most hateful, racist people you will EVER meet.

Oh and it's nothing to do with him being Asian, it's that he's Pakistani & Muslim. Both these groups do not have a good reputation in the UK. If he was of Indian descent, I GUARANTEE you the majority of white British boxing fans would support him. They have no problem supporting black British fighters, so there'd be nothing stopping them from supporting an British Indian boxer.
I repeat my point - Pakistanis are some of the most hateful, racist people you will EVER meet. Think it's the Islam in them that does it.

He was English, born in Yorkshire - his father was from Yemen, not Saudi.
Re: Amir Khan racism issue?
its not the first time. usa done it with Gerry Cooney great white hope. it is not just race as my parent's are irish i was born in london but i will always cheer on the irish fighter that included the late darren sutherland was gutted he didn't get a gold. john joe nevin over Campbell . and i really luke Campbell on how he holds himself as a man and fighter. but i think personality plays a big part as i really like anthony joshua
Re: Amir Khan racism issue?
There is alot of casual racism in the UK against minorities.
Anyone who disagrees can have a look at the blatantly racist headlines of popular newspapers like Daily Mail etc.
Even in "comment sections" of YouTube and these tablods, Amir Khan gets slagged off not because his boxing ability - but because he is Pakistani.
Anyone denying that is in lala-land.

Re: Amir Khan racism issue?
A white British boxer is not seen as representing his/her community with their out of the ring behaviour, a british Asian boxer is held to a different standard and it is wrong. There is structural racism shown in how things are reported and of course there are bigoted individuals and groups of racist fans who will not support Khan.
Khan has been in the public eye since he was 17 years old and he has been a very wealthy young man for years - people are sometimes a bit jealous.
Khan did the right thing by going to the USA, he improve as a boxer and he might still get some good scalps and be in the spotlight for a good while yet.
