Christ, I wouldn't want to run into a pissed-up Dennis Andries, what a frightening though that was, he had a head chiselled out of granite. I'll never forget the fight with Hearns, Andries just didn't know how to quit.

Interestingly, later in his career, Nigel Benn remarked that he didn't spar any more, he said he figured that you got hit enough in the fight without getting hit in preparation for the fight too.

Boxing seems to have a track record of producing tragic cases - those who have fallen from great heights to low depths.

Jeff Harding is just the latest. It's not really the same thing but we have recently had Nicky Booth and then Danny Costello whose lives have been affected by drugs.

Joe Louis, forced into fighting way beyond his prime to pay the taxman ended up a shambling Las Vegas greeter.

There's a rather sombre article in here for me. What are your sad suggestions?

Jimmy Wilde also had a sad end to his life. The greatest Flyweight of all time IMO got mugged as an old man and never really recovered.

He spent the last few years of his life having no memory of his glorious Boxing career.
